Rusty Ranch Tree Farm is dedicated to "Eduction through Exploration" where we strive to provide your family and friends with more than just camping but also a place to experience nature and learn about forestry, farming and making maple syrup from trees right here on our farm.. Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our 65 acres of certified forest. Placards on the nature trail are part of our self-guided tour and provide information about forestry and the plants and animals that call this their home. Wander through the old growth groves, walk the 50' boardwalk and see the magical Fern Ridge. There are abundant wildflowers and seasonal berries to pick, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears in the old orchard available for self harvest. You can even purchase a tree to take home and plant. A short 5-minute walk uphill leads you into a quiet forested sanctuary on 20 acres of private land. Experience being completely immersed in nature, yet just across the road from the beach and steps away from the interurban trail system that gives access to miles of exploring and trails. Inside the cabin you will find a warm, cozy space designed for rest and simplicity. This is an off-grid cabin that requires a peaceful 5-minute walk uphill through a private forest. We recommend that guests pack their belongings in backpacks to ensure an easeful experience. Off-grid means that there is minimal electricity and no running water. There is an overhead light and a charging port for cell phones. There is fresh filtered spring water from the land for drinking that has been tested and is exceptional. We are delighted to offer this gift from the land. There is a double burner stove-top with a complementary tea, coffee, and miso soup station. You are welcome to bring other varieties of soup. We ask guests not to cook anything else in this space. We provide restaurant and trail recommendations in our welcome binder in the cabin. There is an outhouse with a composting toilet for use. There is hand sanitizer wipes available for hand washing. Need a shower? Larabee State park is located 1 min away by car and there are public showers for use. Or rinse off in ocean! We want the expectations of the experience to be very clear so that guests know what to expect. This is an incredible sanctuary and we strive for simplicity. You have full-use of the cabin and are free to explore the forest. You are welcome to use the interurban trail which allows for hiking, biking, and walking down to the beach. Follow the trail 1.5 miles down to Clayton Beach OR access Wildcat Cove across the street (we recommend driving there). Access Fragrance Lake Trail from the interurban trail about .5 miles away. We are immersed amongst incredible trails on the Chuckanut Mountain. Mountain bike? We are smack dab in the middle of mountain bike heaven. We are also located 7 minutes from downtown Fairhaven where you can enjoy phenomenal food and shopping.

Hi! Welcome to Custer Family Glamping! We are so glad you are here ;) Our 10-acre property is located in Custer, WA in the Northwest corner of Whatcom County. Custer is an easy 20-minute drive to Bellingham, 10-15 minutes to 2 coastal beaches (Birch Bay and Semiahmoo), and only 10 minutes to Blaine and the Canadian border. We love to host our friends and show people around our beautiful slice of the PNW🌲 We are a big family, so we designed all of our glamping sites to be kid and pet friendly and big enough to fit families of 2-6. A little luxury and ease for the grownups and a magical nature experience for the kids. Kids are allowed to "just be" here. Cellular reception isn't great but no one seems to notice. Not when they are busy building forts, roasting marshmallows and climbing up tree houses. The intention infused into all of our spaces is a Hygge* (pronounced hoo-gah) vibe. *Hygge is a calm, comfortable time with people you love. The absence of frustrations; often enjoyed with warm drinks, cozy blankets and candlelight or a fire.❤️ County Noise Statement: We love living in rural Whatcom County and we know land owners in our area love it too. In fact, their enthusiasm for the great outdoors is so high that sometimes they can generate sounds that will travel throughout the day. These are likely sounds you are not accustomed to hearing in a traditional neighborhood. Distant noises such as: -county shooting range located a few miles away -tractors -mowers & chainsaws -ATV vehicles -barking dogs -farm animals (goat, horses, crowing roosters) -wild animals (early morning bird song and owls at night) -children laughing -adult voices -train horn Evenings are generally very quiet and peaceful as night falls with the exception of holiday weekends as the enthusiasm for owning property in the country may ramp up ;) We tell you all this in order to be fully transparent about noise potential. If the potential for noise and the nearby shooting range will be a damper on your glamping experience, no worries! We totally get it! Our place is probably not the best fit. If you want to bring your kids to a place where they can build a fort, take a break from their screens and build family memories over a campfire, then you will love it here! Drive down this shaded two-track road through the forest, cross the bridge over Maple Creek, and emerge into a meadow surrounded by woods. A hand-crafted tiny house is on your right, and a camping area is ahead of you, where you may choose the spot you like for your tent or rig. To get there: In Maple Falls turn Left on Silver Lake Road. In 2 miles, turn right onto Independence Lane, then shortly after, at the T, turn right again onto Full Moon Way. After the second house on the left, keep going a short distance, following the Maple Creek Meadow signs, turning Left onto the good two-track road to the Meadow. It's about 800 feet, (passing a small building where water is available at a hydrant). The road crosses a bridge over the Creek, and leads into the clearing. You will see the tiny house on your right, with its woodshed, and, looking to the left, an accessory building (The Tool Shed), where the composting toilet is located, along with a place to hang your sun shower (provided). If you are renting the Tiny House, you my park directly behind it. There are two picnic tables which may be used for cooking, eating, and washing dishes. The open meadow has room for two or three tent and camper sites. Just upstream from the bridge is a beaver pond, the beavers often busy though seldom seen. There is a trail to the pond, which is a good place to view bird life and hear frogs sing. The vegetation includes many large Sitka Spruce, Red Cedar, and Bigleaf Maple trees with their common understory plants, which now include trilliums, bleeding heart, and the less-loved stinging nettles. Two miles north from my place, on Silver Lake Road, is Silver Lake Park, a lovely large County park that offers swimming, fishing, trails, and small boat rentals. Two miles to the south is the community of Maple Falls, with its own trail network as well as shopping for groceries, hardware, treats for your pet, local art, and as of this writing, a food truck. Maple Falls is the second to the last town heading east on Mount Baker Highway, which ends at Artist Point in the heart of the mountains. Many hiking trails are to be found in the area along the highway. Maple Falls Visitor Center is a good place to get info on the endless attractions available.

It’s two story but only the second story is available for use as the first floor is storage. There is no bathroom or kitchen inside, but there is electricity and an outhouse will be provided. There is a futon couch and a double bed available for use. This is on a working blueberry field so there may be tractors and people harvesting nearby in the month of August.

Reg has a great cabin set up while he said he was booked for the weekend, we only ever saw other guests in passing. We did get to meet Hazel and Leela, the rescue sheep, and kitty, the gregarious farm cat. The washroom and kitchen facilities worked out well. And our cabin was cozy.

Weekend Trip to Birch Bay Backyard Bungalow

Jeannie’s Bungalow was so easy to find and was super cozy! It was our first time using the sort of bathroom at the bungalow and we were a bit nervous going in but the instructions were clear and Jeannie also walked us through how to use it which helped build our confidence. We stayed over 4th of July weekend and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants the fun of fireworks but hates crowds. Very convenient spot to stay for anyone looking to paddleboard or kayak as private beach access is literally across the street. The neighborhood is very friendly with the houses all very close to the street so you feel a strong community vibe as you walk through with people waving and saying hi. A spot filled with laughter of friends, but nobody blasting music. A lot of folks get around on bikes or golf carts and the cars drive very safely around them. Jeannie herself was so sweet to us and you can tell she really wants her guests to enjoy their stay (we did!). I would definitely stay here again and get more paddleboard time. Thanks again Jeannie!

My husband and I decided to do a last-minute weekend getaway to Birch Bay, and this little bungalow ended up being exactly what we were looking for. Jeannie was such a wonderful host. She was friendly, responsive, and has really thought of everything. I couldn’t believe how many cute little amenities were packed into such a cozy space. We loved playing cards, listening to records, and just hanging out after a day at the beach. It felt comfortable, clean, and had such a relaxing vibe. One of our favorite parts of the trip was riding our bikes down to Birch Bay State Park, then walking across the street to the beach to watch the sunset. It was absolutely gorgeous. If you’re looking for a quiet, affordable place to unplug that’s just steps from the water, I’d definitely recommend staying here. We’d happily book again the next time we’re in Birch Bay.

The Rustic Bunkhouse and Corrals was so fun! The site and cabin were neat and clean and well laid out. The fire pit and seating area were in excellent repair and the potty was clean and stocked. The camp sites seem to have enough distance between them that you don't hear the other campers. We enjoyed riding the trails with the various terrain, creek crossing, bridges and hills. Well maintained and labeled. We did several loops and laps and had a great time! I plan to invite my girlfriend and her Arabian later this summer.

This is a fabulous place to stay! Clean and tidy! Bungalow was cozy and inviting- Bed was comfy, beach themed decor well done. Felt comfortable and safe in the neighborhood. Local bar/restaurant was a hoot with dancing and live music. Local options avail for golf cart and kayak rental. Peaceful waterway abuts the property and the beach is a short walk across the street in front of property. Enjoyed my morning coffee on the patio, listening to and feeding the birds. Definitely recommend and will look fwd to returning.

Excellent campground for family. Very easy set up for horses. Great play area. Covered table offers shade and dry area when it rains. Our kids love staying here!

1 night at Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest

We loved the peaceful and relaxing setting of the cabin site. The cabin was very sweet and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking the salmon we purchased, by the campfire. The outdoor table with canopy was great for shade as well as setting up our camp stove. The trails through the forest and fields were well kept, and much enjoyed. The whole property appears to be maintained with much love and care.

Weekend Trip to Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest

Despite the rain our 3 day camping weekend was outstanding at The Rusty Tree Farm. Her hospitality and friendliness are over the top. She went out of her way to make the additional experiences for our grandkids, personal and meaningful (Hang with the Hens and Pony Time). The land is well groomed, and she is an outstanding steward. The additional shelters and outhouse are incomparable to anything we have ever experienced. We will definitely be back to stay.

My wife and I had the perfect little get away at Reg’s place. It was nice having a cozy room to listen to records and the mountain/river to explore. It was definitely rustic/primitive which was just what we were looking for. Also Reg was very friendly as well as other people living on the property.

2 nights at North Wind House: Historic Cascadia

I stayed in the Willow Cabin for two nights over the Thanksgiving holiday, and it was exactly the peaceful reset I was hoping for. I arrived after 9pm, and even in the dark, the property felt welcoming with its whimsical lighting guiding the way. Reg, the host, was there to greet me and walk me through everything — from the cozy cabin setup to the full outhouse bathroom and the little kitchen area with a fridge for essentials. The cabin itself is simple and calming, with a twin and a queen bed, both with fresh linens. Reg had the space heater going before I arrived, which was such a thoughtful touch. Since I stayed during the colder season, I was grateful I brought a heated blanket, and I’d recommend others do the same that time of year. The water straight from the tap was incredibly fresh and delicious, truly something you don’t get in the city — just a small detail that made the stay feel even more special. What really stood out to me was the beauty and quiet of the property. Reg genuinely encourages guests to wander and explore, and it made the whole stay feel more personal and grounding. It’s the perfect spot for anyone wanting to unplug, reflect, and enjoy a truly low-amenity, chill cabin experience. And I have to mention this — the shower water pressure and heat were amazing. Truly a highlight! If you know you enjoy a simple, peaceful, back-to-basics kind of stay, Willow Cabin is such a gem. I’d absolutely return.

Reg's land and cabin are lovely. He's a sweet and accommodating host :) The property feels a little magical with a walk along the river and a big beautiful tree to greet you. The record collection is fun to dig through - some real gems in there.

1 night at North Wind House: Historic Cascadia

Reg’s hundred acre wood is a charming mix of huts and outbuildings new and old. The vegetation overgrowth and misty air conceal various construction materials and antiques around the property. Dishes and coffee are available, and the BBQ worked as long as you can squeeze into the narrow place where it’s situated. The washroom is cute, the kitchen is slated for demolition, and the cabin we stayed in was warm. Reg was enthusiastic about showing us around the property, and introducing us to the sheep.
