What makes this cabin cool? Well, it is a retired DNR fire watch cabin! The cabin is as original as can be! Equipped with battery operated and solar lights along with propane heat! Porta potty right next to it for your use! There is a full bathroom and amenities to include fridge, microwave, coffee pot and air fryer just a short walk away! Dishes are not included and cooking utensils are very limited.
Winter sports galore up here right now! Cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ample parking for snow mobile trailers! OR bring your favorite book and come enjoy a peaceful restful weekend!
Springtime is a gorgeous time of year up here and turkey season is a favorite! Ample room for boats/trailers if you are considering hitting Drano lake for some springer salmon fishing! It is apx 30 minutes away.
In the summertime come up and enjoy the hiking! Sleeping Beauty trail is just a few minutes away and you are within 30 minutes or Hood River if you are looking to explore and check out wineries. There are cheese caves, ice caves, Goose Lake, Council Lake and so much more!
Fall is one of my favorite seasons! Hood River fishery has been amazing and the fall colors can't be beat!
There is a fire pit and campfires are welcome when there is not a burn ban.
Trout Lake Inn is a local favorite up here and check their Facebook to see what live entertainment they have coming up.
Pets are welcome - please make sure they are well behaved and are kept close to the cabin. I do have my own friendly dogs (Ruby and Muskett) on the property, but they do not have access to the cabin area.

Our backyard might be the most serene you've ever been to! Eight acres of meadow and forest, surrounded by orchards, fields, and the roaring White Salmon River is the getaway that surrounds you with nature. Our 20' RV Spot with water spigot and electric plug-in is located about 100 yards from the river's edge.
To enhance everyone's comfort level, we have two plumbed restroom buildings and an outdoor kitchen. Our kitchen has a microwave, refrigerator/freezer, toaster, coffee maker, electric skillet, 3 propane skillets and a grill, blender, cooking utensils, sink with running water, breakfast table, and extra seating. There is a large meadow with two propane fire pits - and of course, heckling the rafters and kayakers from the riverbank is probably the best entertainment! They love waving and yelling "helllooooo" back!
The property is only 15 minutes from Hood River (to the south) and about 20 from Trout Lake (to the north). Outdoor activities are endless in the Columbia Gorge - a white water excursion down the White Salmon, local wine tastings and tours, waterfall hikes, and of course, watching the activities happening everyday at the Hood River Event Site.
Unfortunately, I do not allow pets. I'm sorry!!! We have our own dogs/cats/ducks/chickens who live here and I don't want to risk any unwelcome interactions. I try to keep the dogs at our house when we have guests but should they come down to the meadow for a visit, please know that much like the cats, they are super friendly and love to hang out.
While we are located on the river, I do not allow put-ins or dips from our property due to safety risk and our liability insurance - the current is quite strong and the water is glacier-cold. There is a kayak/raft drop-in at BZ Corners, a quick 3 mile drive up the road from us, or at Northwestern Park which is just down the road from us, and there are swimming holes all over the Gorge (just not right here!) Please do not venture past the rock divider at the edge of the riverbank, as doing so could subject you to poison oak that lives along the river's edge.

Waterfall Sanctuary is a hidden gem on 17 acres, bordered on two sides by the Gifford Pinchot N F. In the heart of the Columbia River Gorge just outside Carson, Washington. It's home to a mini-farm with goats, ducks, & chickens. Deer & elk walk through the property on a fairly regular basis depending on the season, it's less than a mile walk (or short drive) to the Wind River with a swimming hole, & a short distance further to the Pacific Crest Trail.
A 20-minute drive & you're at the Columbia River. An hour to the West is Portland if you are in the mood for some city life, & 35 minutes east is Hood River, a gorgeous old town with tons of charm. The closest town, Stevenson, Washington is home to shops, local restaurants, & access to the Columbia River.
Also in close proximity are amazing waterfalls, trails, & National Forest roads that are close by & well maintained. No matter the season there is something to do a short distance from the property.
Keep in mind that the property is very rugged except for the trails we have provided to access other parts of the property. The farm is home to an organic garden, campfire circle, picnic area, a city bus with a campers' kitchen, outdoor seating area with BBQ, kids play structure and hiking trails.
The cabin on the property was built by the original homesteaders. Britta and Jim purchased the property in 2009. It had been vacant for a number of years. Giant slash piles scattered the land from previous logging.
The house and cabin were not livable and needed major renovations. In 2019, we purchased and brought in a city bus and converted it to a campers kitchen.
A year-round creek flows through the property and 3 major rivers are nearby. The Zigzag Mountain Lookout Trail leaves from the property. The property was homesteaded in the early 1900's. E. Mountain Drive was the wagon train trail into Portland, known as the Barlow Trail.
Zigzag Mountain Farm offers the perfect escape from the city.

Not to mention the abundance of good IPAs, coffee and delicious food. Over the years, I camped in several places in the area and always dreamed of owning a cabin near Mt. Hood. We had a wonderful time at the rustic cabin in the Enchanted Forest! The cabin itself is far more comfortable and cozy than tent camping, with a comfy bed and hard walls and windows all around. It is very spacious. If you do need extra space, there is a tent spot adjacent to the cabin. The river is right outside the cabin, with a lovely little beach--our 3 dogs loved it. There is a picnic table and large fire pit. For cooking, the bbq is available, although I only used the side burner to boil water for my instant meals. There is a short hike down to the site, but a very steep hill, so you must remember that what you wheel down in the large provided wagons (they hold A LOT) will also need to be PULLED BACK UP. That was a workout, but well worth it! The area is quiet and clean, very wooded and well kept. There is a lot of space between sites. We also rented Tent site A which is nearest to the cabin--it is a little stroll away. Having both sites made us feel like we had our own private reserve! We enjoyed fishing from both sites. I even caught a trout! Thank you for a really fun and relaxing experience!

1 night at Mt. Hood Enchanted Forest
This is my third time visiting the cabin, twice last summer and again last night. I was slightly nervous about ants based on the previous review but thank goodness there were none inside the cabin during my trip. This is a great camping site for people who love a relaxing time by the river. I tied my float to one of the rocks and just laid in the sun for hours. Josh is a great host and always willing to help you with your stuff when he is available. His property is stunning and you feel safe. I have been here 3 times and will definitely be back again! Me and the pup love Josh’s space!

I had the greatest birthday weekend ever here! Michelle was such a gracious, generous, and knowledgeable host! I loved learning about the horses and getting to meet all the animals. Would definitely come back <3 Thank you Michelle for making my birthday celebration special!

Weekend Trip to Mt. Hood Enchanted Forest

This campground is fantastic. Lots of trees and greenery between campsites. there is a mild amount of slopes throughout the campground, the individual sites are flat. We stayed at campsite 1 with an oversized stargazer tent. This site was so quiet even though it is in the middle of the entire campground. Aside from birds chirping (LOTS of birds) we occasionally heard chickens during the day (roosters were quiet overnight) and not much else. Beds are clean and comfy. The blankets provided are lightweight, and we slept in our sleeping under the blankets that were provided - which was plenty warm on this chilly weekend.

Weekend Trip to The Forest Cupcake
This is such a special place! My husband and I stayed at the Forest Cupcake for a long weekend to celebrate one ten year anniversary and it was so relaxing, cozy, and refreshing. Irene and Bill have really added all the special touches and creature comforts to level up the camping experience! It’s so quiet and beautiful and on top of everything else, the most epic sunset spot of all time is just a short walk up the hill! 10/10 recommend!!

1 night at B&B Treehouse Ranch
Loved the treehouse! Especially the outdoor facilities. Would have loved a hot tub but otherwise a great locations with some pretty views. Super private and cozy! Suggest possible mattress pad for us old folks.

1st time glamping and I'm glad this was your first experience. What a wonderful place and so cool, what they do for the kids! Clean sites, clean bathrooms and clean grounds!! The sauna was awesome fun little trail to get to it. Looking forward to staying with you again!!

My daughter, dog and I stayed at site 2 and had a great experience. Tyla is friendly and welcoming, we met the goats and chickens, got some farm fresh eggs and enjoyed the area. Swimming hole nearby is great, the Falls Creek Falls hike is incredible. The land is beautiful. The dome tent was nice and very clean and cozy.
