Weekend Trip to Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest

We really enjoyed the time here. The spot was level, well groomed, very clean outhouse, and a covered picnic table. The covered area was large enough that woe could have pitched our tent under it, and still had room for the table. The host was very friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. There is a snack shake at the main building to buy snacks, firewood, water, sweatshirts, and the like. We barely heard our "neighbors" at the other campsites, and only saw a few people. It felt like having the place to ourselves. We saw lots of eagles and hawks, and even had an owl land on my son's camera tripod when he was standing 3 feet away. That was a once in a lifetime experience. We would recommend this spot happily.

This is our fourth year camping at Rusty Ranch. Never disappoints. Margaret is a FANTASTIC host-lovely to be around and has new amazing add-on options each year. We will return!

Weekend Trip to Valhalla Tree Farm

There’s something about this Hipcamp site. It was private, and though I heard an occasional (very rare) car slowly drive by, they couldn’t see into the site. There was a beautiful view from the site that never got old. It would be hard to fit more than one 4-6 person tent. The outhouse definitely felt *rustic* but that’s a part of being outdoors and camping. The trails were fun to explore with my dogs off leash. Overall, one of the most peaceful, relaxing sites!

We absolutely loved this place! We booked last minute and they were so accommodating! On top of that, their place is an absolute gem! So family friendly. She mentioned that there was a playground for kids, and I assumed it would be for smaller children, but they had tether ball, croquet, and horseshoes that my boys (15 and 18) and husband had a blast with. On top of that, we could have taken advantage of a few other perks, but with our late check in, it just didn’t make sense at the time. If we are ever back in Washington, we would definitely stay here again!! Such a wonderful place! No wonder they have won the title of best farm on hipcamp!

Another amazing visit to Scott & Margaret's Alder Meadow. This is the 4th or 5th time we've been there. Every time is amazing. Margaret has done such a wonderful job with the property. My kids love that she has a snack shack where they can purchase an ice cream bar or popsicle. Probably the cleanest, nicest smelling outhouse I've ever used. We will be back in the future.

Margaret was so accommodating when I had to change plans several times due to a series of my own unfortunate events. What was supposed to be an overnight stay became a day trip, and Margaret was accommodating to my changes in plans. She was so quick about communicating and ensuring that I still had a great time. The site was amazing. It was clean, large, shaded and sunny, and had trail access to the creek. The entire camp is well maintained, and the outhouse was spectacularly clean. The trails had clear trail markers, and even though I explored them, I feel like I only scratched the surface. I was truly disappointed to leave. I will be back.

We loved the site, land, and the welcoming nature of Margaret and Rusty Ranch. The grounds were very well maintained, grass even soft to walk barefoot all weekend. Excellent amenities at every turn. Playgrounds, swings, sand toys, activity book with forest information for the kids and trails for all ability levels. Wild berries by the creek were a very nice surprise and great incentive to keep the little ones exploring longer. This ranch would be great for several families to camp together but also the sites are spaced enough that you dont hear each other or feel on top of other guests. Core memories were certainly made this weekend.

Even prettier than last time. Very quiet although Fourth of July Fireworks in town took place this week. Very natural mountain setting with tons of birds and mature trees. Love that the commute is easy and the host couldn’t be nicer. Booking again today. Close to Riverscene County park swimming hole.

Fantastic match for vancampers or Class B. Easy to find, incredible hosts, good Verizon signal. I work remotely and enjoyed the added outdoor space to knock out a project without all the urban distractions. I would easily recommend and stay again.

Beautiful trails to hike. Site are well maintained, very easy to access. I can see how this is a great family place to camp. Lots to do. I however enjoyed a very quiet solo stay during the mid-week.

Taylor’s property was great. We stayed at the Josephine1 campsite which was a couple minutes walk to the river but it was great and we had enough room to feel like we had our own space. Taylor is a great host. Very responsive to questions and has a great layout. The multiple bathroom options were clean and the communal bus is cool for a shared fridge/freezer and cooking equipment options

Weekend Trip to The Glendale Farm

An amazingly cozy place to set up camp while on the peninsula. We were welcomed into the field to set up wherever felt comfortable and the dogs were free to roam which they definitely needed and fully appreciated. The sunsets over the meadows full of swallows were a treat. An easy laid back stay with everything we needed in between exploring. Water was available via hose and the toilet was very clean and accessible. I would 100% stay again with these awesome hosts.

David had great communication throughout the process and the site was amazing. We ended up not being able to stay the night due to an unrelated medical issue so ended up packing up our gear and leaving, but the dinner we had was great and I was able to climb around the big boulder in the river. It was a little buggy, but that's camping...

Weekend Trip to Curley Creek Canyon

We had a blast at Curley Creek last weekend. Jerrett was very nice, welcoming and accommodating. Our campsite was in the back, extremely private and beautiful, clean and had big stumps to use as tables. Our site was a two minute walk in from the car, so we had to carry everything in. Not a big deal but something to be mindful of. The location is fantastic because you are minutes from the grocery store, restaurants, beach and other amenities - but when you get to camp it feels like you are deep in the woods. We did not get a chance to use the hot tub but the swimming hole by the creek was magical. We just spent an hour sun bathing on the tied up kayak. The walk down is steep but quick and Jerrett has made it very safe, but it does appear treacherous - it’s not just wear good shoes (not flip flops or crocs) and go slow - it is more than worth it. We will definitely be back.

You'll be very near great hiking and backpacking trails. In the spring and summer you can enjoy fishing, hiking, boating, backpacking, and much more. Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm and Campground, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way to the Salish Sea. This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years. Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle. Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

Or, just sit back and relax in tranquility, as the property sits at the end of a cul de sac just before entering national forest land. Be sure to leash your pets and keep a good eye, as there are wildcats, coyotes, and bears in the area. Learn more about this land: Pull your RV or trailer onto this lot and take in the beautiful southwestern view of Mt. Jupiter ridge and a peek-a-boo view of the Dosewallips River! You will also find many hiking trails and parks nearby! There is weak cell service on the lot, so you may or may not be able to connect. I get 1-2 bars with Sprint. While this property is not very far off the Dosewallips road (35 mph), it is generally very quiet and peaceful. You may hear cars and motorcycles from time to time, but very faintly. The lot is at about 350 ft. elevation, so you may get noise traveling up the valley from the residential community below (to which I belong), such as dogs, people using chainsaws, etc. There is hunting allowed in the national forest, so you could potentially hear guns in the distance during the day, but that is rare. There are a few close neighbors, so please be respectful and quiet, especially in the evening. Please bring your own firewood when campfires are allowed and please do not forage for firewood on or around the property. Lastly, while the sightings have been few and rare, the neighbors have seen bears, cougars, coyotes, and bobcats near their homes and this property. So keep an eye on your children and pets, especially if off-leash (your pet of course!) The property also slopes a bit where the deck starts, so again, keep a close eye on the kiddos. You have a very good chance of seeing the local Roosevelt Elk that travel in huge herds around Brinnon (See pics). They sometimes lay down and hang out on the grass on the property! Make sure your pets have their flea and tick updates!

The traditional definition refers to sleeping outside under the stars with only a bedroll, a fire and the night sky for companions. But if you are a fan of the western genre and lifestyle, you might also know it as a place to go to hang out with like minded folks and experience the Cowboy lifestyle. This includes all people, men and women alike, as the term "Cowboy" is largely generic and not gender oriented. A taste of that lifestyle is what we are offering here at our Cowboy Camp. HORSES It wouldn't be Cowboy Camp without horses and they are definitely present. They can be heard whinnying at mealtimes and throughout the day as they keep in touch with each other. They are generally quiet at night. Horses are not allowed in camping areas when campers are present. No farm would be complete without chickens and ours is no exception. A few hens can generally be seen wandering around the barn searching for bugs, We do not have a rooster, so guests can sleep peacefully. We are offering camping sites ranging from simple tent sites with fire ring, picnic table and soft sandy tent sites to small cabin type tents with beds and electricity. As part of your cowboy camp experience you can sign up for a horsemanship lesson involving handling and grooming horses and time spent working with the horse in the round pen. (There is no actual riding such as a trail ride offered at this time, we are working on that). You can also sign up for a roping lesson. You can take a hike around the property on our trail through mature Douglas fir and majestic Western cedar forest. A 1/4 mile walk down our quiet country gravel road will take you to the 80 acre Jefferson County Land trust forest with several beautiful trails meandering through mature uncut forest. These trails are suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. That forest further connects to the Cappy's trail system, a network of several miles of trails that will wind around and eventually lead into Port Townsend itself if you choose to venture into town. Or you can choose to travel via mountain bike or foot approximately one mile down the road to the DNR forest property that will lead you through more gorgeous wooded and open areas to access the Larry Scott trail, a 7.3 mile out and back firm surface multi-use trail that leads either out of town through the woods or to the north directly into Port Townsend along the scenic waterfront. Our beautiful piece of property is comprised of almost 11 acres situated on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula just outside the quaint Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend. It lies approximately 4 miles from downtown with its many art galleries, restaurants, shops, boat harbor, farmer's market and the historic Rose theater. The farm itself is located within a section of old growth forest comprised of 100 year old Doug Firs, cedar trees and alder groves. There is an open pasture area in the center of the property, which is ringed completely by thick stands of forest, so it feels completely private. You have to look closely to see the neighboring two houses through the forest. The horses are excluded from camping areas during your visit, and will most likely be housed on neighboring property while guests are present. No need to worry about curious horses coming into your campsite to say hello. It is a wildlife paradise with frequent visits from local deer, bald eagles, ducks on the pond, owls nesting in the trees, and coyotes travelling through. The frog pond is alive all night with singing. If you are a light sleeper you might consider earplugs. We have created a walking trail through the forest around the land that is full of the sounds of life and birds. A pileated woodpecker makes its home in the back corner and two pairs of barred owls also inhabit the nearby Douglas firs. They can be heard at night calling out as they settle in for the evening. An important note for the walking explorer, please be aware that many areas of the farm are in their natural state. This means you might encounter prickly plants such as star thistle, nettles and tansy ragwort. We are happy to identify these for you if you are unfamiliar with them. Please be aware and dress in long pants and long sleeves while hiking. There are no poisonous snakes present in this region. We train horses here so there is a full size riding arena and training round pen. On any given day, you might see horses being trained and ridden. MORE ABOUT THE FOOD At the end of your day of adventures, you can opt to sign up ( when your site is booked) for a delicious feast at Cowboy Camp. Using old time traditional Dutch oven cooking techniques and slow smoking methods, meals are comprised of such items as slow cooked smoked pork shoulder or ribs, Dutch oven baked "Horseshoe Beans" ( a crowd favorite), fire roasted corn on the cob (in season) , homemade potato salad, green spinach salad, and of course dessert such as homemade blackberry cobbler or pineapple upside down cake. Vegetarian selections are also available upon request. ADVENTURES CLOSE BY Venturing out from the farm you can sign up to go on a whale watching excursion with Puget Sound Express out of Port Townsend. Seeing a whale is guaranteed or you get a free return trip. Also, the Olympic National Park is only a short one hour drive to the west and the view from Hurricane Ridge is not to be missed. As a young man he competed in the rodeo sports of bareback broncs, calf roping, bull riding and team roping. He then worked as a professional farrier, horse trainer and ranch employee in Texas. He learned the art of Texas BBQ cooking while living and working on Texas ranches. He loves to cook for others and enjoys sharing tales of the ranch life. Our guests can enjoy being laid back, play music, stay up late, have a couple cocktails/beers and just let the air out of tires, so to speak...Our campground is perfect (we think!) for large groups of people that want a beautiful space for an event, like receptions, family or school reunions, work/corporate campouts, Church events, etc. where you can book the whole campground for yourselves. Or, there are three individual sites you can choose from and book separately on our campground. Two are by the river with wide open view of the river. The third has two entrances, big space, and secluded under a couple of big maple and various other trees without view of the Sauk but has a short and easy path to the river. Drive a little further and you'll find an open area site that also has two entrances. It has a nice wide view of the river with access to the river. It also has an established campfire pit there. The first campsite (the first campsite is the furthest one down) is very secluded as well. Driveway drops down to this site and delivers ample room for a few cars and tents, or rv's. (More on RV's in this listing).. The view of the river is beautiful there and the site features two separate coves on the river. There's a camp trailer down there as well...nothing fancy but we occasionally use it. The electrical needs hooked up and the bathroom hooked up in it. But if you're sick of the rain in your tent and want to get out of the rain, it's there. All three sites are very different from each other. We and the property were introduced to HipCamp last year by another HipCamper. and it's a diamond in the rough. Once you go past our shop and the industrial mechanical views and continue down the driveway it turns into a whole different scene. You'd never know that you're within city limits. Just out in the wild. We're still working on the property to maximize the property's potential. We love this property for its closeness to nature and beautiful scenery! There's lots of diversity in plants, neat rocks all over the place! It's a relaxing getaway and yet close to town and its amenities, including North Mountain Bike Park..

The second campsite is on 4 acres you will have to yourself by a creek; Rhodes River Ranch Restaurant is walking distance away to go enjoy dinner; the Whitehorse trail for biking or walking is only a mile away; Enjoy the view of Whitehorse and three fingers mountain. Lake Cavanaugh is nearby, and regional activities include biking, boating, fishing, hiking, , paddling, wind sports, and off-roading.
