The place has been farmland since about 1926. It became a family horse property with three pastures and now is a small lavender and blackberry farm. While it is limited to two RV sites, there may be farm visitors walking around the area. Tall cedars and fir remain in the back of the property and provide for a forest experience. It is not a commercial campground. We are now turning it into a small lavender farm. About half of the original pasture is now covered in black ground mat and 3,000 newly planted lavender.

You should rely primarily on your own power. Walking trails are in cedar trees and on hill across 10 acres with flower fields and blackberry "farm". Free blackberry picking in season (August and Early September). Deer, racoons, foxes, bald eagles and occassional coyote on site. Keep food and trash secure. No toilet or sewer available. There is one portable "porta potty" type facility. Dry camping only, no camp fires allowed due to fire conditions. Pack out own trash/garbage. No Pets allowed. Only visible neighbors are three horses on neigboring 10 acre farm property. There is Wi-Fi. Beach access has been closed.

This property is a large RV site with 2 separate hookups directly across the street from Mayo Cove Inlet, 1 mile from Penrose State Park, 3 miles from Joemma State Park, and less than a mile from Bay Lake. Across the street from the RV site is access to Mayo Cove Inlet where you can easily drop your kayak or paddle board into the water. (Know Lakebay Marina is currently not open). There is still access to the water! It's only a short paddle out before you will have a stunning, unobstructed view of Mt Rainier. Penrose and Joemma offer clamming, fishing, oyster/muscle hunting in season. Bay Lake is known for amazing fishing, including large mouth bass and rainbow trout. This cozy cottage is equipped with a queen size bed in a lovely sleeping loft, a small but useful kitchen, a large trex deck with patio furniture, a comfy couch and small dining table. The separate, but luxurious, bath house has a full sized shower, sink, and fully plumbed flushing toilet. There is even a small stacked washer and dryer available. Laundry soap available for purchase. Name brand (no dollar store stuff here) shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided.
A cozy heater keeps the tiny house warm on cool days, but there is no air conditioning. The shady woods stay nice and cool, and there are lots of screened windows to let in the breeze. The sleeping loft also has two screened windows and a fan if the nights are warm.
The kitchen has a gas 2 burner stove, a mini fridge, toaster oven, hot water kettle, french press coffee maker, dishes, utensils, pots/pans, and other basics.
The bed has 100% cotton sheets, pillow cases, and blanket. As well as a comfy coverlet. A feather alternative duvet is available for colder nights.
There is only one bed and it is not recommended for small children to sleep in the loft as there is no safety rail or gate up there. If a child is present it is recommended (almost required) that they sleep on the couch in the lower living space.

This secluded meadow has sweeping views, including a stunning shot of Mount Rainier on clear days. Surrounded by forested land including a park preserve, the land is quiet and private. A great place to watch birds, access multiple park trails by foot, or just enjoy being outside in nature. There are old fruit trees on the land that give plentiful fruit (most years) starting in August, and depending on the time of year you'll also find blackberries, huckleberries and salal berries. Additional tent sites are tucked into the trees. Serving all is an outdoor/covered compost toilet tucked into the trees a couple minutes walk from the meadow. There is also a spigot with hose where you can rinse off gear etc. A public swimming hole on Lake Florence is a short drive way, along with beaches. Cute little wood cabin on a large, quiet lot, with covered porch looking out towards the water near the end of Cole's Point. Gravity fed fresh water at the sink on the porch. Inside, includes couch, queen bed, twin bed, fridge with chilled water, freezer, microwave. Nicely heated in winter and stays cool in summer. Sitting in comfy camp chairs on the covered porch can be magical during a spring rain. Outhouse with nightlight and composting toilet. Firepit with kindling and firewood in winter. (Summer fires are not allowed.) Short walk to the beach to the north. Short walk south to the edge of the Oro Bay as well. Kayaks can be rented on island. (Not related to the host.) Multiple hikes / walks within Jacob's Point, Andy's Marine Park, and 7 other parks on island. One wonderful little grocery store on island for fresh or incidental items along with one cafe, and one restaurant. The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. Please note, this is HARSTINE ISLAND, NOT HERRON. I haven't gotten Hipcamp to fix this yet. There is a bridge to the island and the coordinates offered for site are correct. Also no bathroom set up at this time.
Beautiful peaceful forest with trails, a great spot for elopements (elopement package separate) and a beautiful meadow with a small ringed fire pit for one site and a movable fir pit for another.. Maximum 2 sites in 5 acres. 70% of the Island is forestry but sound DOES carry a long way so it's not dead-quiet.
Harstine Island has a BRIDGE, no ferry!
One hammock is left up in the forest and there are places for your hammocks to be hung, as well.
There is one spot on drive that is between two trees so you need to go slowly and be careful, 9 foot wide at wheel base only. Please take note of this. Easy for cars, a bit tricky for some trailer/RVs. Photo and video can be seen on webpage.
Types of wildlife include barred owls, a nighthawk usually in summer can be seen at dusk, western alligator lizards, warblers, robins, crows, wrens, a bear has visited before (lucky me heard it 'woof' at me, bear didn't appreciate my singing), deer, others have seen red fox in the past but we have not been so lucky. Birder's paradise. one lovely review calls it a great place for forest bathing!
Puget sound is SO clean here with a diverse salt water life. Orca and Humpback have been spotted nearby. You can track them at Orca Network or Puget Sound Whale Sightings on Facebook. Both '22 and '23 have seen orca making rounds with the incoming tide going under the bridge and circling the island! There is Jarrell Cove state park and a boat ramp at Latimer's Landing Boat Launch few miles way. There is a great local market at the community center Saturdays from 10-12 in the summer. No water view, this is heavy forest off a gravel drive into privacy. No power, no water, pack it in pack it out.
Please be careful of deer when you are driving in and observe island speed limits. Familiarize yourself with the personal fire extinguisher at the site.

Weekend Trip to Fern Gully Retreat
We really enjoyed our time at fern gully. There's a nice little hiking trail on the property with open areas to relax and just enjoy the peace and quiet. Staying in the Airstream was great and is convenient to lots of wilderness areas to hike in. Brad was very responsive and attentive to our needs. Thanks for a great stay.

Donald’s land is idyllic- the beautiful lavender hillside was just starting to bloom and the neighbors field behind our campsite was covered in wildflowers while the horses grazed. Donald greeted us to show us where to set up and we had a lovely night! Would love to stay there again someday.

Weekend Trip to Cole's Cabin on Anderson Island
Fred’s cabin is magical! My partner and I live in the busy city and it was so healing and fun to spend time quality time at the cabin with our two dogs. The cabin truly has everything you need and it’s very cute and cozy. We spent a lot of time down at the private beach as well and never even saw another person. We will definitely be making a trip back to stay at the cabin.

We almost don’t want to leave a review because this place feels like a secret getaway we selfishly want to keep to ourselves… but it’s too good not to share. This was our third stay here with our dog, and somehow each trip has been even better than the last. He absolutely loves the open space to roam, nap in the grass, and explore, and we love how peaceful and tucked-away everything feels while still being incredibly convenient.
You get the best of both worlds here: quiet countryside vibes with plenty of sun and shade, plus downtown restaurants and coffee shops are only about a 10-minute walk (or a super quick 3-minute drive). It feels remote without actually being remote.
Everything is thoughtfully maintained, the bathroom is always clean, the grounds are beautiful, and the kitchen/deck setup honestly pushes this into glamping territory if you want it to. Morning coffee under the trees, campfires at night, and wide open skies made it hard to leave.
If you’re looking for a dog-friendly spot that feels peaceful, cozy, and just a little magical, this is it. We’ll definitely be back again… and probably still debating whether we should keep telling people about it.

There was a lot of good things about this place. One, I was able to stay relatively far from most others, making it a little more private than a state park camp. The kitchen/freezer/fridge that is open for use was super helpful. I still cooked at camp and used a cooler, but doing dishes was great. The big field where we camped was soft, and drained well. The lawn was so nice, and great for kids to just run around. Lots of dogs here for my dog to interact with. There was a trail nearby that you could walk. This place was only 10 minutes from town. The hosts were very communicative, and the price was great. One thing that was not great, was that there was only one fire pit. I had thought there would be the ability to have one at our camp. One suggestion I would have, is to make the bathrooms accessible from outside the barn. It was a bit awkward to go through the barn to go to the bathroom. There was 2 women who basically lived in the common space, sitting right outside the bathrooms, and so you walk past them a dozen times a day when going to the bathroom, taking kids to the bathroom, or taking a shower. Felt like it was their house that I was using to go to the bathroom.

Very quiet campground! The sites are spaced along a grade just enough to feel more private than they are. A short steep walk to the state park beach gave us amazing views of Mt Rainier and the water. Outdoor sink next to port-a-potty was helpful. Carrie’s directions were clear.
