It's time to try to find out how nice it is to camp at your own campsite amidst 6 wooded acres alongside Bear Creek, with Bear Stream running through the middle of it. Quiet and private, with paths and trails on the property. Dry firewood is provided there at the campsite. There is a charcoal grill ready to use, though you must bring your own charcoal. A small RV onsite provides a bathroom and shelter, but camping by the creek, listening to the water running is the way to do it. The site is also very private and naturist ready, and a perfect place for your dogs or your children to run free, so it's time to get back to nature. Since guests have the whole site, they can decide whether it's clothing optional or not. With the new boat launch site near Capon Bridge, on the Cacapon river nearby, and a few more upriver towards Wardensville, it's a great site for kayakers or canudists to plan river outings and stay nearby. There are multiple places to set up tents, or hammocks, either at the main campfire ring, or at several sites away from the main campsite. Throughout spring, rear wheel drive is recommended, and 4 wheel drive might be needed, and during the summer if heavy rain is expected. I would not recommend front wheel drive cars being used there in the spring, unless it is dry out. The RV is limited to two adults, and two to three children, for sleeping, due to it's size. Heading west, is the Canaan Valley and Davis and Thomas, WV. Both towns have many things worth visiting and are close together, and Winchester is 30 minutes away for supplies.

The oral history of Coal Mine Hollow has it that a moonshine still once graced the banks of Camp Cedar Creek. It was run by a recluse, who was always on the move from the Revenuers. A revenuer went missing along Cedar Creek one moonlit night, never to be seen again. The bearded recluse who ran the still, owned two mules, and an old car frame without a motor. Those mules would pull him through the hollow, and up into the mountains, where the revenuers never found him. Some say on a cold, moonlit night, they’ve seen his two old mules, pulling an old car frame past Camp Cedar Creek.

The name Cacapon was given by the native americans for the healing aspects of the water. The cabin is located on the famous Riverdale Farm property that was home of Captain David Pugh. Learn more about this land: This is a beautiful 44 acre land with a water stream running through it making it a serene and relaxing hidden gem. The camp site is on a 12 acre open field with complete privacy from the main road with Sheep living on the property. There are two small mountain ridges that are great for hiking while being able to enjoy the scenic panoramic views.  There is also a 9 acres of land across the main camp site that is surrounded by water on 3 sides, which is excellent for fishing. We are located just a few miles from the West Virginia boarder.  TIPS: -PLEASE KEEP ALL FOOD IN THE CAR when going to sleep or when you are away from the site. - The area has wild animals (snakes, bears, coyotes, etc.) so make sure you stay safe and keep your food in a secure place. *pro-tip: animals are typically more scared of you, however be cautious and watch your step. - During the Spring and Summer, there are all kind of bugs around so make sure bug spray is a priority!! - There are two natural spring waters locations near by. - If your planning to go into the water make sure to put on WATER SHOES! and enter at your own risk.

Visit the site ranked by Hipcampers as one of the top three sites in West Virginia. Pitch your tent on a wooded mountain knoll overlooking the Cacapon River surrounded by the Allegheny Mountains as far as you can see. The Cacapon River is a hidden scenic gem and the cleanest river in West Virginia. This is rugged West Virginia at its best. Wildlife abounds and it is common to see Bald Eagles, Black Bears, and Whitetail Deer. If relaxing on the ridge line and enjoying the views are not enough, hike down to the river via the powerline cut or trails and swim, paddle, or fish (WV license required...one day passes are available online). You can also hike the creek running through the deep hollow, which follows the state access road while enjoying dark Hemlock woods and shale cliffs. If you like to mountain bike, you will find the mountain access roads and trails offer you some back country riding fun. The campsite has nice level areas for pitching a tent and an established fire ring and picnic table. Trails allow one to hike in or drive (a four wheel drive is necessary to access the ridge line campsite). The campsite is very private, but it's possible you will see a friendly neighbor pass by on the trail or see folks staying at the cabin in the valley along the river flats if you go down to the river or you can get a bird's eye view of cabins in the valley across the river from the top. The campsite is no trace so you must bag out all garbage and waste. Cat holes and such are not permitted so campers must bring and use a camp toilet. During exceptionally dry periods, open fire restrictions may be put in effect. You will need a four wheel drive vehicle to access the site. If not, or in inclement weather (snow or heavy rains), you can hike in from the state road where the access road begins. Learn more about this land: The property's history dates back to pre-European settlement and was originally inhabited by Native Americans with archaeological evidence dating back at least 10,000 years. After European settlement, numerous of battles were fought in the area during the French and Indian War, American Revolution, and it was even a cross-roads for armies during the Civil War. Farming, sustenance farming, and logging were the primary industries throughout the region. Later, during the Industrial Revolution, the river, limestone, charcoal, and iron ore from the area fueled a local iron bloomery, which the area, "Bloomery," is still named. The land you are camping on was nearly completely logged over the last hundred years, but a few old growth trees can still be found throughout the mixed hardwoods forest. On the way to the campsite you will also pass the old original school house (now a hunting cabin) located on a neighbor's adjoining property. There are still a few old timers left that attended the one room schoolhouse as children, but the building predates them by many years. There is also an old Methodist Cemetery located on the property (not near the campsite) that dates back to the 1700s. If you happen to find this site, please do not disturb it.

The recreational draw to this area is hard to beat in VA, and this property has it all for an amazing outdoor weekend! The ranch comprises 40 acres of lowland acreage designated for the camp, including a 5-acre lake. The Cedar Grove sites 1, 2, and 3 are along the banks of Passage Creek located within a sparse, groomed Cedar grove. They are all a short walk (or drive) to the lake and beach amenities. Each site has varying access to the creek, so check out the site details. These sites are extra large and can accommodate multiple family groups, as well as, travel trailers of all sizes up to off-road motorcoaches in site 1. There are no hookups, so just boondocking. Pack it in, Pack it out. Generators are allowed but please be aware of the other sites and direct the noise away. The Lakeside Mountain Stream site is very secluded, nestled between the mountains and the lake. It overlooks our 5-acre lake with mountain views in the background. It's on the opposite side of the lake from the Cedar Sites. This site has its own dock and is just a short walk down a mowed trail to a beautiful section of Passage Creek. An additional seasonal mountain stream can cascade behind the site and run under it to feed the lake when the conditions are right. It's a delicate site, so the accommodations and group size is strictly limited. Check out the reviews and extensive gallery for many options of this amazing property! Locally, the North end of Fort Valley offers many great hiking trails, trout fishing, rock climbing, horseback riding, and the Elizabeth Furnace day-use park. Taskers Gap OHV/ATV park is a short drive south, and the valley is sandwiched between both forks of the Shenandoah River for those looking to paddle.

Staying here was my first Hipcamp experience, and it certainly won't be my last! I went with a group of 6 with varying levels of comfort with the outdoors/camping, and all were happy! This site checked our main requirement, access to warm shower/flushable toilet, and had bonuses of a pavilion, nearby river, electricity in the bathroom, and a camp store. It was comforting to know that if we forgot anything or just didn't feel like cooking at the site, we could pop by the camp store. Andrey was kind. He popped by to greet us and give us tips on the area. He even let us put the kayak in off an unused site. There was a short stretch of calm water downstream from the campsite that made for a relaxing paddle/float after a long weekend of camping. Favs: - The sound of the next door rapids at the South campsite was a constant, peaceful white noise that everyone agreed helped them get great sleep and made everything extra relaxing. It was so nice we didn't even want music. - the bathhouse - as clean as a campsite bathhouse could be! Showers were hot - super welcome after 30-40 degree nights. Notes: - Service was definitely spotty for all, which we had been warned about, so we made do with getting wifi occasionally from the camp store and having some group walkie-talkies. Not a big deal! - There is a rooster on the property that loves to be heard lol. Consider bringing earplugs for sensitive sleepers.

We forgot to bring ice and they had ice and firewood ready just in case we ran out. The bathhouses were clean and ready to go. Our group camped at the Bridge Site on a rainy and cold weekend but we HAD A BLAST despite the less than perfect weather. The campground itself is a beautiful drive up into the mountains, and you can tell Andrey really takes care of the property and sites. We had a whole day of fishing in the river and enough space to spread out and play some darts at our campsite. The pavillion with ping pong table was a welcome reprieve from the rain and the kids had blast challenging to adults to the game! We also enjoyed a trip to general store (a very short walk) where we got some delicious fries and one of the best milkshakes I have had in awhile. I will also add the individual bath houses with private access was one of the more innovative things I have seen at a Hipcamp site. Very convenient and and appreciated by this mother of a special needs child. Overall - if you are looking for easy, convenient car camping and the opportunity to mix and mingle with other campers/locals - this is a great spot to have an adventure. You are also super close to Berkeley Springs and Paw Paw, which make great day trips for anyone doing a longer campout. Looking forward to coming back on a sunnier weekend to do some tubing!

Very nice area, well maintained and lean. We have stayed in both the yurts and in the tent camping areas and both were excellent. The yurts are the only sites right on the water and offer string lights and picnic benches. It is very challenging to find the first time. The site is set well off the beaten path so you feel like you are out in nature. We will definitely be back.

Eric’s property was absolutely perfect! Such a beautiful area, stunning views and tons of space! The lakeside site was perfect for our group as we love fishing, swimming and kayaking. We even got to see Eric stock the lake Saturday morning with this seasons catfish. Such a friendly host! They have plenty of on site activities such as kayaks, canoes, floatation devices, firewood, fish food, charcoal grills and a nice outdoor toilet set up and handwashing station. We will definitely come back again and again!
