Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo. Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress! This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well. Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. The Rockfish River dam and quarry gardens are really cool too!

There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

The two original, off-grid, Jefferson Sea Cabins are perched on the eastern side of Ginkgo Ridge, And the newest, the Boxwood Overlook, sits on top of the ridge and includes electricity, AC, heat and lights. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. We also offer a propane heater in all 3 to keep you toasty in cooler weather. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. Each cabin gets a propane heater which keeps you toasty even on the coldest winter nights. In warmer months, the 2 off-grid cabins have battery-powered fans with plenty of industrial batteries. They also enjoys plenty of solar powered torch lamps which offer a terrific ambiance. We do recommend you bring flashlights and or headlamps. If you forget, no worries, we got you covered. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. We support BIPOC and all are welcome to enjoy our property :) There is a 2-night minimum on weekends. Just down the hill is the historic town of Gordonsville with perhaps the best BBQ on the east coast, wine tasting room, two breweries, several cafes and restaurants, grocery store and liquor store. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress! This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well. Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! We were looking for a small place for a short getaway near the Shenedoah Valley. This was perfect! The little cabin had a futon and a top bunk bed. There was a chest beside the bed that had extra blankets and also doubled as a table. A small fire burning stove sat in the corner for warmth and cooking adjacent to a rocking chair and there was a cabinet with extra bedding. The beds were already made and included pullows. There was an area rug down to keep feet warm. Outside was a fire pit for the cabin and just down the hill was a large community fire pit. The bathroom (in a seperate shed) was a small hand made toilet with a wood shaving bucket to cover waste (I actually prferred this to the typical porta potty as they smell awful). This toilet was well maintained. We brought our own drinking water, but they will provide for you upon request. There is no shower, so bring your Dude Wipes if you plan on staying a bit. This is not a place for anyone who needs alot of comforts from home or are use to staying in hotels. It is rustic! But if you can appreciate the little things, this is for you. There are also two Collies that live there who will come visit you ro make sure you are safe ❤️. We definitely would recommend this place! Booking was easy and the owner came down to check on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We WILL return!

This is the perfect combo of spacious camping spots, easy access from the highway, and just enough amenities to make this a truly enjoyable experience. Combo lock access behind a gate means late arrivals can just cruise right in and feel nice and private once you’re set up. The bathroom facilities are a great touch to level up what would otherwise be primitive camping. Jen was responsive and accommodating.

My friend and I brought our pups up here for a night and can’t recommend it enough. The site is private, close to a few wineries/breweries, and has great views. Be sure to follow the 4WD guidance - we didn’t have to use it but I can see how rain a day or two before could make for an interesting drive up. The leaves this time of year also made it a bit slick. Overall, the campsite was exactly what we were hoping for and we’ll be back if camping in the area again!

Weekend Trip to The Bluffs at Cedar Creek
A group of four of us stayed at this campsite over the past weekend and had such a wonderful experience! The entire area was clean, spacious, and beautifully maintained, with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The porta-potties were pretty clean, and there were a good number of them stationed out by the front. Firewood was delivered to us by Levi's daughter which was a nice touch. When she wasn't around, we could easily grab a crate of firewood ourselves near the front and pay by Venmo or cash. The firepit that we had at our campsite was great, tall and had great air flow holes at the bottom and a metal grate we could use for cooking. The provided picnic table was nice and very wide. The campsite felt peaceful when we were sitting by the fire at night. The river near our campsite had a good amount of activity with people coming to fish for trout (which the owner stocks with plenty) which means we didn't have complete privacy during the day. However, our campsite's overall atmosphere made it easy to unwind and enjoy nature. I would absolutely recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a relaxing, enjoyable outdoor escape. The location is perfect, only about an hour drive from Centreville, VA which makes the camping experience so much better we didn't have to drive far to experience some wonderful outdoors. Lots of sites to see in the area with hiking so we'll definitely be back to do more activities.

Had a great time!! It is a very special property and Jennifer was kind to show us the animals and tell us more about the history. The little cabin was comfortable and had all the basic cooking items we needed as well as plenty of water for dishes/handwashing! We enjoyed a complimentary wine tasting at a nearby winery that Jennifer gave us, but overall just hung out at the property and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Also, the outhouse is difficult to see if you arrive at night, but it is there, just a few feet off the trail by the solar lights :)

Quite a beautiful drive up to the top of the hill with the changing trees. Very secluded property, cabin and outhouse located at the base of the driveway with the main house just behind. Adorable porch, so so cozy and clean inside, great little woodstove. The toilet is conveniently located in a shed and very clean. It was my friend’s first time ever camping and she happily used it! Lol. Such a great place to unwind after a day of hiking!

The Lakeside Mountain Stream site is very secluded, nestled between the mountains and the lake. It overlooks our 5-acre lake with mountain views in the background. It's on the opposite side of the lake from the Cedar Sites. This site has its own dock and is just a short walk down a mowed trail to a beautiful section of Passage Creek. An additional seasonal mountain stream can cascade behind the site and run under it to feed the lake when the conditions are right. Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others. Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience. In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house! We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you! Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. You will arrive at our house, and the campsite is approximately 150 yds down the river trail. The campsite is completely private from our house. We are native plant enthusiasts and are fortunate to have many native species of trees and plants on our property. There’s great fishing, hiking, kayaking and canoeing from the property and also plenty more nearby. We’re only a few miles outside of Strasburg which offers great antique shops, dining, and a brewery with live music on weekends. Five night maximum permitted. We prefer that guests arrive before dark. **Note that the North Fork is a shallow river with a slate bottom. If you plan to wade, fish or swim in the river, you may want to bring some sturdy shoes to wear in the river.

Whisper Creek was founded in 1999. It has been the gathering place for many great friends and camping adventures. WC can hardly be camping, more like Glamping! This is a very private and quiet location. You can settle in knowing that this listing includes a covered picnic area. Which has counter space for food prep and cooking that includes a small sink. But remember, it’s camping so you’ll need to come prepared with a camp stove for cooking, although I do have charcoal and propane grill’s at the picnic area. Fire pit for awesome evening camp fires with free split firewood on hand. All I ask is that you burn it like you split and stacked it. You can gather and relax under the covered picnic area for dinner preparation and/or lounging. We are located within an hour from Wintergreen, numerous wineries, craft beer locations and numerous hiking destinations. Harmony Hut has fresh linens but please bring sleeping bags and/or sheets for the screened in bunkhouse. River access to the James River is a short drive to Howardsville. There you will also find a General Store which offers you the basics, such as Beer, Wine, Ice and a few grocery items. They make the best homemade sandwiches and grilled burgers. Direct river access can be provided via special request. I can also provide shuttling services. But this needs to be mentioned well before your stay as I don't live up there year around.
