Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress! This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. A hiking trail and a gravel road will take you the 1/3-mile to the Tye River, but be warned — both are steep. You’ll need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to drive to the river. You’ll need good legs to walk back to the cabin. By the riverside you'll find a well-groomed recreation area with picnic tables shaded by a canopy of white ash and river birch, a fire ring, and, in the summer, even a porta-potty. A 'beach' is cleared to the river. At normal water levels, this spot on the Tye is appropriate for supervised child's play and for adult water recreation. Fishing is also fine! History has it that the Tye River was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite fishing stream. Rocky Run Landing is a good location to either begin or end a paddling or tubing trip on the Tye/James Rivers. A canoe is available for rental and your hosts can assist with planning river trips from one-half mile to 20 miles (overnight). Shuttle service is included with canoe rental. Tubes are also available for a lazy drift downstream. Charcoal grills may be requested for use at the cabin or in the riverside picnic area (guests provide charcoal). Awesome spot! Love the freedom to roam and set up camp wherever. The subtle ground lighting at some of the sites was a nice touch.

Luscious green next to the pond. A great place to camp, be visited by the ducks and listen to the wildlife and the creek nearby

Really beautiful spot off the beaten path with great views of the mountains. Nice level spot for the rig and the electric and water hookups worked great. Sam was also really responsive and a great host. Will be back!

Weekend Trip to Arcadia Sanctuary

We had a wonderful experience! Fran was lovely when we checked in and out! Buddy and Ally (the dogs) kept us company throughout the night and made us feel secure! Mr. Duck and the various cats were also lovely to meet! We were the only campers that night, so it felt very private. Just a heads up that most campsites are directly next to another campsite! I would definitely come back with a larger group and reserve two adjacent campgrounds!

There's only a few nearly level spots - but the view MORE than makes up for the effort you expend to get your camper stabilized. Plus there's an existing, well-placed fire pit, and the hosts made sure to provide us plenty of dry firewood. Plus the location is convenient to plenty of hikes, activities, etc. What more do you need? Definitely recommended.

This was the second time staying Camp Cove Creek and just like the first it did not disappoint. We love hearing the cows, horses and coyotes. The creek is so peaceful, we really need to return when it’s warm and we can enjoy it more.

Weekend Trip to Magic at Galleywinter

A friend of mine and I stayed at Forest site. To me it was the second time to camp at Forest site. We had a very relaxing beautiful autumn night with a nice camping fire. Gail was a great host as always —- kind, considerate and generous. Gail let my friend use her sauna house in the morning even when she was quite busy. My friend enjoyed taking the sauna. The forest was beautiful in the sun light reflected by the fall foliage. It was even nicer to be able to see a few horses among the trees at a distance, eating hay quietly. The well maintained forest condition suggests that Gail has been a very diligent worker.

Weekend Trip to Wild Altar Farmstead

Wild Altar was such a peaceful retreat just outside the 151 corridor. Easy access to Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge Parkway area as well. The land itself comes with a quaint and well-equipped outside kitchen area as well as a nicely maintained outhouse. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed meeting the farm kitties and seeing the ducks every morning. The Grandmother oak camping area was very spacious with a metal fire pit. Jordan was very accommodating and clearly communicated. We would definitely come back here!

Fascinating place. Quiet. Took a few minutes to find a level spot, because we didn’t want to drag out the leveling blocks. Lots of acreage to explore. Had no problem finding wood for the campfire. Un-hooking the tow vehicle on site was a little tough … next time we’ll do that off site.

Weekend Trip to Arcadia Sanctuary

We camped at Far Far Away and it was a great time. The bathrooms were clean and tidy and not a far walk from the site. We were visited by Buddy the pupper several times during our stay and he was an awesome addition to our company. Its a wonderful place to unplug from life, sit back and enjoy the beauty that mother nature has to offer. Fran was wonderful and was just a text away if we needed anything. Looking forward to our next stay at the Sanctuary!

The tiny house has everything you would need. It was cute, quiet, and the hot tub was perfect for the chilly autumn nights. There’s a projector screen right by hot tub which made for some spooky vibes. And the cute fenced in yard was perfect for our dog. There’s also some trails to walk and we got to see some highland cows. Would definitely recommend! Thank you host

Absolutely beautiful place, field surrounded by trees with a view of the mountains. Lots of space. Nice little fire pit spot. 2 nights at Arcadia Sanctuary

Beautiful property with even more beautiful people welcoming you upon arrival! And some amazing furry friends to boot! This was my second time at Arcadia, and will definitely be back as often as I can be. Didn't get to catch the Mondo Jelly Kings on this trip, missed there last show by a week or two, but would highly recommend catching them if you have the opportunity. They put on a great show when I was out last year. Blueberry Pancakes are to die for!!!
