Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

Mid-summer is what I call frog season, Tree frogs are abundant and provide a wonderful soundtrack. There are free to use bicycles, an axe throwing board, and cornhole boards available. 4 miles from shopping and dining in Mathews Virginia, 15 miles to Gwynn Island. Gwynn's Island is an island located in the Chesapeake Bay off of Virginia's Middle Peninsula. The island is located in the northeast part of Mathews County, south of the mouth of the Piankatank River. It is connected to the rest of the county by a swing bridge over Milford Haven.

Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

Share space on our small mountain homestead in the Appalachians. Stay in a tiny cabin with deck space and outdoor food prep area. Twin over Futon bunk bed(or a guest could sleep on the porch sofa which is a futon, if the weather is good. Drinking water provided if requested. Chicken, dogs and cats on the farm. Our homestead is located up a steep gravel road and though the property is secluded, the cabin is near the main house. It is a Family atmosphere and a living farm so there will be noise from domestic and wild animals. Unplug and reconnect with Nature. No Wi-Fi or electricity, but a mini solar panel charges a light. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

Weekend Trip to Indian Camp Lane

We absolutely love coming to the cabin. This was the second time and during a different season and it was equally serene and peaceful. The family is very friendly and helpful and cares a lot which shows. It is definitely becoming a little sanctuary for us away from the hussle and bussle of the daily life and a place of gratitude, peace and calm and spending time in nature, in prayer and with the Lord. We had a wonderful time during our stay at this peaceful retreat. The hot tub, sauna, trails, and fire pit with homemade pizzas were absolutely amazing, and even better with the snowfall. It was a great place to stay and we would love to come back.

This little stove made a cold night so cozy! This was our favorite thing.

This was such a cool skoolie! I surprised my son with an "adventure" on our way home from FL. This was a hit! Cozy. Nice land. I saw a family of 11 deer! And my little dog loved the nature walk. Nice warm bathroom at the house. Private, clean and warm. I think we loved the little wood-burning stove the best! My son (22) slept in the bedroom which was like a quiet cocoon. I slept on the pullout couch which was way bigger than I expected and mostly comfortable. Everything was easy to use, especially with the handy "welcome" booklet. I would definitely stay again.

This cabin was absolutely lovely. I cannot recommend it enough! The wood burning stove kept us cozy on chilly nights, and we got great sleep in the loft. The farm pup is adorable!! The kitchen was fabulous and had everything we needed. This was the perfect place to spend a birthday get-away. There were a few wasps and one did find its way into a sleeping bag, but that comes with being outdoors. The town nearby is lovely and the largest antique warehouse in the country is just down the road! Plus proximity to lots of hiking. We can’t wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Shireton

Shireton was the perfect cozy weekend getaway! The handmade touches, props, and themed details made everything feel so enchanted and magical. I also loved that the front door opened right into the sunset (the door itself is gorgeous). We had so much fun doing archery with the on-site bow and arrows, relaxing by the fire, and enjoying the copper tub/shower. Truly a charming, whimsical stay :)

We were looking for a small place for a short getaway near the Shenedoah Valley. This was perfect! The little cabin had a futon and a top bunk bed. There was a chest beside the bed that had extra blankets and also doubled as a table. A small fire burning stove sat in the corner for warmth and cooking adjacent to a rocking chair and there was a cabinet with extra bedding. The beds were already made and included pullows. There was an area rug down to keep feet warm. Outside was a fire pit for the cabin and just down the hill was a large community fire pit. The bathroom (in a seperate shed) was a small hand made toilet with a wood shaving bucket to cover waste (I actually prferred this to the typical porta potty as they smell awful). This toilet was well maintained. We brought our own drinking water, but they will provide for you upon request. There is no shower, so bring your Dude Wipes if you plan on staying a bit. This is not a place for anyone who needs alot of comforts from home or are use to staying in hotels. It is rustic! But if you can appreciate the little things, this is for you. There are also two Collies that live there who will come visit you ro make sure you are safe ❤️. We definitely would recommend this place! Booking was easy and the owner came down to check on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We WILL return!

Weekend Trip to Blanchard Farm

My favorite part of the property was the fun little things to do. Rope swings, hammocks, hunting stand to climb. It was fun to be walking around the woods and come across random little things. The yurt sites were very private and provided your own space for relaxing. I was the only one camping this weekend, but they still seem spaced out enough to feel secluded. Definitely more space than what is given between lots at a state park. Josh and his wife were both very kind and helpful. I have a hard time packing too much around due to health issues, and Josh was kind enough to put me in the closest yurt and help me with the firewood I purchased. The yurt is spacious and gives you a home away from home feel while still being in the outdoors and leaving things like electricity away. I will definitely be back! Thank you so much for such a great trip.

Stargazer tiny cabin at the Guinea Farm was perfect for me and my pup. Ian was the perfect host and made us feel so welcome. Meeting the chickens and guineas was a lot of fun and the beach nearby was breathtaking. We explored the area, had a few campfires, and relaxed. Even the rainstorm was amazing while inside Stargazer!!! The cabin was super cool. We will be returning! Just a quick note that did not detract from the experience at all - we did encounter some hunting dogs loose at the beach hunting a deer. Its obviously hunting season and off the location, just good to note. We loved our trip here and valued meeting Ian and learning about his much loved birds, clearly living in paradise. Definitely worth a visit! The cabin itself was extremely clean and well stocked. The property was fun to explore, even has corn hole and axe throwing!

I’m a returning camper. Last time I went to Trilogy. Love this whole property. 2WD accessible. I was greeted by the host Ian who promptly brought me a huge pile of firewood. Campsite has a nice picnic table and nice fire ring with swivel cooking grate. The treehouse features a deck with a tent for anyone who needs it. The treehouse also has a griddle and grill running off a propane tank. Inside the treehouse has bar stools and a bar top dining area. It also has L-shaped benches on the back wall and a foldable table. There is a projector with Roku stick for streaming off of their WiFi. Also for fun there is a Nintendo 64 with 3 games including Mario Kart 64. All electrical components run off a battery powered by solar. There are USB-A ports in various area for your convenience. Additionally there are cots and camping chairs provided. I had a great time and felt very safe on the site. I really got to relive some childhood memories sleeping in a treehouse and playing video games. I highly recommend. If sleeping in the provided tent isn’t your thing or you have brought your own, there are countless areas surrounding the treehouse and an adjacent field with ample room 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We had a wonderful stay at the Stargazer tiny cabin. It was incredibly cozy, warm and clean. The cabin had every amenity we needed, and Ian provided clear instructions for everything. He responded to all of our requests quickly and kindly, which made our stay even better. One of the highlights was looking up at the stars at night. It was absolutely fantastic! Aaron’s Beach and Haven Beach were only 3–5 minutes away, and we had the best time there with our dog. This was truly one of our best stays, and I strongly recommend Ian’s place. We will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Watercress Inn at Landon Farm

Had a great time!! It is a very special property and Jennifer was kind to show us the animals and tell us more about the history. The little cabin was comfortable and had all the basic cooking items we needed as well as plenty of water for dishes/handwashing! We enjoyed a complimentary wine tasting at a nearby winery that Jennifer gave us, but overall just hung out at the property and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Also, the outhouse is difficult to see if you arrive at night, but it is there, just a few feet off the trail by the solar lights :)
