Welcome to our small Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature-inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout steams or touring the local vineyards and breweries. We currently offer one cottage, glamping and a few campsites for our guests. Our campsites are all private, located acres apart with tables, chairs, firepits, some elevated sleeping areas, some hammock spots and a few with a roof. Three of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have four drive-in sites that will accommodate two or three vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm! Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. A few offerings on the farm. Tasting in the 1850s Chestnut log cabin, tubing trips, breakfast and picnic lunches, Animal experiences and Yoga. Please inquire about renting the property for private small events. Winter Camping: Please note that we can received significant snowfall in our area. 4WD may be required during the winter months.

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

In the town of Wakefield you’ll find gas stations, dollar stores, a Value food market and if you want (to go) food we have that also. Plus it’s home to The Virginia Diner. We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)  We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection.     You may camp anywhere on the property.  There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. Our homestead is located up a steep gravel road and though the property is secluded, the cabin is near the main house. It is a Family atmosphere and a living farm so there will be noise from domestic and wild animals. Unplug and reconnect with Nature. No Wi-Fi or electricity, but a mini solar panel charges a light. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! We also have eggs for sale when our chickens are laying.Come stay in a secluded, relaxed environment where you can unplug and reconnect with Nature. Take naps, sit by the campfire, quietly read or meditate without being attached to your daily gadgets. Take in the mountain air and allow yourself to balance mind, body and spirit. My husband and I first lived on this property shortly after marrying 17 yrs ago, we moved to AK and back in 2013 and have been building our homestead from the ground up ever since. We love this mountain and consider our home a Beautiful Magical Place! We daily connect with the glorious natural elements surrounding us and give thanks constantly. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

Weekend Trip to 12 Gates Farms

We stayed two nights in the treehouse while in the area for an event. We didn’t get to take full advantage of the property since we left in the mornings and arrived after dark both days, but enjoyed the time we spent there! We planned to camp at first, but the treehouse seemed like a better bet since the temperatures were cool in mid-April. It was at least ten degrees warmer inside than outside, which was perfect (so no need to even turn the heat on during our stay.) The mattress and bedding were comfortable and cozy. Everything was very quiet and peaceful. Roni was quick to answer questions and was very friendly and helpful. Neat little place and would definitely return!

Weekend Trip to Love Ridge Mountain Lodging

My wife and I loved glamping here. The cabin was clean, well maintained and very cozy. The cabin was outfitted like a tiny home with everything we needed to do some cooking, as well as a good size garden tub/ jacuzzi inside. You might get a stop by from the camp site cat (she is very sweet and will hang out with you on the patio) We enjoyed this so much we are planning to come back over the summer; highly recommend Love ridge if you need a cozy cabin in the blue ridge mountains!

Butterfly 1 was so clean and the camp beds are SO comfy! The privy had zero stink, no daddy longlegs, super clean and well-stocked; the bathhouse was clean and well-maintained- both kept my OCD in check 😉 We could hear the stream from our cabin and felt like we were in the middle of the forest with all the trees and space. Adam was the consummate host, friendly, helpful. It doesn't get better.

Our Easter weekend stay was the perfect setting for my kids' first camping trip. The owners are wonderful, hardworking people who made us feel very welcome. We spent most of our time at the pond catching over a dozen bass and bluegill, and the kids lived in the hammock! The cabin is awesome and provides a true off-grid experience; since there’s no power, I'd recommend bringing a generator if you need electricity. We’ll definitely be back!

Beautiful spot in the mountains with a amazing veiw. The cabin was cozy but big enough not to feel cramped. Plenty of space for activities and a nice fire area. Not too far from Shenandoah National Park.

Loved my little cabin - I was greeted upon arrival by the cutest puppy- the bed in my cabin was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. It was very quiet except for animal sounds which were relaxing. Everything was cozy and perfect. 10/10

The A-frame by the waterfalls was the perfect oasis I could ask for. The cabin was full of supplies, and the land was full of places to explore. Beau came to greet me, and he was very kind and helpful. Can’t wait to stay again next spring break!

2 nights at Hawthorn Hollar

Our stay was amazing! We were only there for two nights but we left feeling so rested we joked we stayed for a week. Our children LOVED the fields, pond, fishing and canoeing, and the trails. And our city dog was a whole new version of herself! Moon and Julie are the most gracious hosts and their space is full of life and rest! Our time there was a gift. We can’t wait to go back!

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

I didn’t really know what to expect from Thunder BRidge but this place is awesome! We chose the primitive cabin. But you can’t go wrong with anything here (cabin or camping) Having the pavilion and bath house nearby to use was helpful so you can either fully ‘rough it’ or have some level of home comforts. There’s plenty of room to run around in open spaces also a cool old school obstacle course. Cannot recommend this place enough! Adam is super helpful throughout your stay if you need anything! Need camping or cabins in the Natural Bridge area, look no further than Thunder BRidge!

Amazing little area of land, spending the night there was wonderful! It was great to escape the city and see the stars in the sky for once! The hosts have done a wonderful job making this a little get away on the mountain and I'd love to come back!

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

If you love the wilderness, being alone, exploring, and being unplugged, this place is absolutely for you. I stayed in an A-Frame cabin that had a direct view of the large waterfall. The campsite was fully equipped with absolutely everything I needed. Three different ways to cook, firepit, grill, and little stove. All of the utensils, pots and pans to cook with and dishes to eat from. A little camping toilet in the cabin. The ceilings were so amazing and the bed was very comfortable. The hosts were very VERY responsive and accommodating. I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone who needs to find themselves. It definitely provided my soul what it needed.

4 nights at Solitude at Thornton Farm

We had a great time staying here in the Sugar Shack. It was quiet and peaceful on the farm. The host even placed a small space heater in there as the weather became bad while we were away.
