There is something for everyone to feel free to bring the whole family. DIRECTIONS: Once you are on Road Runner Circle, go past the house on the left with the Christmas lights on. Please continue down the road and follow the road around the curve to the left. The campsites will be on the left and side behind the rock walls. The campsite number that is booked is the campsite you will stay in. Additional details to note: - We now have an above ground pool to keep cool in during the summer! Like most ruins in the Ghost Town, my stone house was built in the early 1900s to house a miner’s family from the nearby Rainbow Mine. I bought the property in 1986 and began restoring and rebuilding. In 2019 I retired here from NYC and began exploring possibilities for sustainable tourism. West Texas is one of the best places in the United States to view the Milky Way (both Big Bend parks are certified as International Dark Sky parks). We use shielded LED lighting around buildings and pathways to cut down on light pollution and optimize stargazing opportunities for our astrotourists. And we are applying for dark sky certification from the Texan By Nature program. Bear in mind that this is the desert, in all its rugged glory. There are critters, rocks, plants with thorns, slippery slopes, sink holes, rusted artifacts and broken glass from decades long past. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, and stay on the paths! Our intention is to provide remote, low-density accommodation for folks who are respectful of the land.

Retief is a wonderful host. He has done an outstanding job making this campsite very comfortable. There is a community sink to wash dishes, an eating area with a view of a bird feeder, three flush toilets and two showers with hot water. Each campsite has a burn barrel and a picnic table. Retief is very flexible and accommodating and does whatever he can to make his guests have a wonderful experience here in Terlingua. If you're here on a Saturday he cooks an outstanding breakfast at 9:00 a.m.

4 nights at Casa de Keaveny Cabin and Campsite

There is something very charming and spiritual about Jim’s cabin and land. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe and at peace. Jim is a true Texas gem — I could listen to his stories for hours. The cabin is clean and eclectically decorated. I enjoyed walking around and looking at his collected treasures. It’s in a wonderfully quiet area with no road noise or loud neighbors. It’s very easy to stare off into the mountains and lose yourself in the views, especially at sunrise or sunset. The nighttime sky alone was worth the 10-hour drive. The Wi-Fi was stronger at this remote cabin than in my own suburban house. It would be very easy to work remotely from here if needed. It felt like a real privilege to stay here. Jim isn’t going to become a millionaire renting out this cabin at such a low price. It feels like a true labor of love that he’s chosen to share with the world. You’ll enjoy every minute here and find it hard to leave. I’m already planning next year’s trip. Items I would bring: lots of drinking water, trash bags, a propane tank (like those used for a gas BBQ grill), and paper towels. Although Jim has all of this stocked, I found myself using more than I normally would and felt bad depleting his supplies. Thank you, Jim for an unforgettable stay! See you next year.

My friends and I had an amazing time tent camping! The location is about 20 minutes outside the main town area and has the best sky for looking at stars I have ever been to. The ground was very rocky, but the owner provides hammers and metal stakes to keep tents down. The bathrooms and showers were a blessing after long days of hiking in the national park! I will definitely be back at the site if I am in the area again!

The park is new and currently has 12 full hook-up sites, with more being constructed. There are animal sculptures and elegant lighting, a laundry house with two top-load washers, two dryers, a detergent machine and change machine. The owner, Jay, is as nice as his park. And the best part is, it is waaay out there. About 9 miles from Dell City (Pop 220, with a small "grocery" and a couple small restaurants. I think I saw one or two places for gas/diesel. At $30/night, $175/week, it is a bargain.

I loved tent camping at The Bus Stop Campground! My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights while exploring Big Bend National Park. The showers/bathrooms are super nice (water was also hot), there was no cell service at the site specifically but a couple miles down the road there was strong signal with AT&T, and the WiFi was super strong as well at the site. There is cheap firewood for sale, extra stakes and metal mallets just in case you need them. There are electrical hookups, water basin, picnic tables, fire pits, and cool tree stump seats around the fire pit. The ONLY thing I will say is that if you plan on tent camping, be prepared to have the strength the hammer your stakes in the ground as it is pure gravel/rock 😅. That was a bit rough. But even then, the metal mallet and crow bar that they have there was a huge help. Overall, we plan on coming back to visit Big Bend National Park and we will be staying here again FOR SURE!!

We absolutely loved camping out on Jason's land! Conveniently located about 5 mins from Big Bend National Park with a nice little general store close by as well it really was the perfect location. We certainly enjoyed the use of a nice large firepit and the picnic tables. The outhouse was clean and convenient at the camp site and the showers a short distance away were a huge plus! We also highly appreciated Jason's helping us get one of our cars jumped the last morning. All in all would definitely stay again, and highly recommend this spot for anyone wanting to visit Big Bend!

I've stayed in Terlingua many times for over a decade, but won't need to find another place to stay ever again because this place totally outshines all the rest. The owner Mike is the most gracious host with a great sense of humor and just an all round nice guy. The accommodations are amazing for a campsite. You have fantastic views of the Chisos, super clean bathroom and beautiful showers, full access to the community kitchen, and a nice fire pit on the porch. Oh, and super close to the Ghostown. This place has it all and even has two stages to host bands and a bring your own bar area and lots of signs and unique decor to keep you entertained for hours. Seriously, the best place to stay.

This is a great location for visiting the two Big Bend parks. The sites are nicely spaced. There are pretty views of the buttes that surround the campground. The bathhouse is new and much nicer than I expected for a rustic location. Really great showers with lots of hot water. Everything was clean and well kept for being in a dusty remote area. Enjoyed the funny signs on the outside of the bath house wall. Met the host when he was filling the bird feeders. Very nice and personable guy. Helpful info: Both the national park and state park have garbage bins for your trash.

Probably my favorite Hipcamp ever over my ~6 years of use. Terlingua is amazing, but wouldn’t have near as much charm without Temple Of The Bird and Mike to own/operate. Locals gravitate there because it’s such a cool hangout and it had the best views in town. I’ll always stop in to say “Hey” if I’m remotely close and stay there for any future visits to the area.

Great host!!! Retired went above and beyond and changed me from site 10 to 5 without asking. 5 has a nice shade covering, picnic table, and electric hookup! The bathrooms, showers, and dish area are also very nice!!
