Everything was exactly as advertised. Karen was friendly and welcoming and shared lots of great local recommendations! The property is very close to Terlingua, yet far enough from the highway that it felt peaceful and quiet. We stayed four nights at Site 2 and had no neighbors, which made it feel very private. The tent site is about a 2–3 minute walk from the parking area, which was the only minor downside for us since we like to bring our large cooler and water jug when spending full days outside, so hauling it back and forth everyday took some effort. Otherwise, the site was conveniently close to both the bathroom and parking. The facilities were clean and well maintained, and the hot shower was a big plus! Funny story: Karen did warn us to keep things and food secured from animals (including her dog Mojo), and we accidentally left our paper towels and leftover tacos outside while showering one night (totally our fault). He found them, but he’s the sweetest dog and we couldn’t help but laugh it off. We happened to be there during a full moon, so we missed out on the darkest skies, but overall this was a great basecamp for exploring both the national and state parks!

Amazing birthday camp experience!

Absolutely loved this site! It was a short hike from the parking area and we were able to pack out our bougie, week long camp in 3-4 trips with a couple of wagons that we brought. It would have been an easy walk for a backpacking style camping experience, but we wanted all the things for this trip. Ms. Karen is an amazingly generous hostess and her dog, Mojo, is a fantastic co-host! We loved his visits! The site is beautiful and very private. You feel like the only people on earth while stargazing out here. The view of the Milky Way was incredible. Having a real shower so close to camp was amazing after hiking in Big Bend all day. Highly recommend this camp to anyone.

Everything about this site was wonderful, from the hospitable host to the peaceful site. Karen was so communicative and helpful to us throughout our stay. Site 6 was secluded and private, without feeling isolated, and really beautiful. The walk from the site to my car was 2-3 minutes, and a hot shower at the end of the day was the icing on the cake. Could not recommend more!

Amazing Views/Escape from the Heat

The Island site was fantastic for us. Camp host is incredibly kind and helpful. Our only concern pre-trip was lack of potable water, but this did not end up being an issue for us. Plenty of opportunities for water nearby and in Big Bend. Best part was location in ravine provided extra shade near sunrise and sunset. Shade from hill started about 6:30 for us, with beautiful views towards Big Bend. We also had 1 day of wind, but was not dusty at camp. All in all this site worked out perfectly for us.

My group really enjoyed staying at Cieloscuro. Great location to camp in town with a nice view to the southeast and impeccable stargazing. Karen and Mojo were wonderful hosts. 10/10 recommend this facility!

True West Texas/Big Bend Experience

Site 4 - Bell tent with Chisos view

Glamping at Cieloscuro was an unforgettable experience! The location is perfect for adventure and relaxation, offering stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. Karen is a fantastic host with great recommendations for dining and exploring—be sure to take the advice of a local! Big Bend National Park is just a short drive away, making day trips easy, and the nearby town of Terlingua is full of charm and character that shouldn't be missed. Her dog Mojo is awesome and super friendly.

Tent camping on Karen’s land was great! The sites gave you real desert views with privacy from the main highway. The facilities were clean and tidy. This site gives the true desert experience and is very aesthetically pleasing. Karen was a great host who was always willing to answer questions or even help you carry your equipment to your site. Overall a very pleasant experience I would recommend!

Site 3 - Terlingua Dark Skies

This place is absolutely beautiful! My boyfriend and I chose the private island and we were isolated enough for our own space and privacy, but only about a 2 minute walk to our car. Karen’s property offers potable water, an awesome outdoor shower that has hot water and a toilet all within a 2 minute walk from our site. We have talked about making this a yearly trip and Karen’s property is definitely the place we would want to come back to! Super close to terlingua ghost town, very well located in terms of accessibility, and only about a 15 minute drive to one of the park’s entrances. We loved the experience, enjoyed the view and the dark skies and definitely will stay here again. P.S. there’s a sweet dog on property that will come visit once in a while!!!

My wife and I recently stayed a night here. We were the only campers there and the site we chose was some distance from the shower and bathroom. Karen was quick to help us carry our gear and let us use her wagon(?) to get our stuff there in one trip. We met Karen’s dog, Mojo, and right away he was a welcome addition to our camp. The outdoor showers and bathroom are fantastic. The site is quiet and secluded. In the morning we explored the draw that runs in front of the sites. Karen is adept at interacting just the right amount. We found her very interesting and enjoyed our interaction with her. I highly recommend this site for a quite peaceful stay.

We loved staying here! Karen was warm, inviting, and very helpful with any needs or questions we had. Location was great and the stars were amazing! We only wish we had brought a table along as there wasn’t much room on the small table provided. Would absolutely stay here again!

Site 6 was great! Just far away enough for some peace and, almost absolute, silence (except for the occasional car off in the distance on the road). Karen even provided a wagon if you need one for moving your stuff. There’s also a shower, clothesline, and outhouse.

Excellent Camp Site Near Big Bend!

We had a phenomenal time at Karen's campsite! She is an excellent host and more than willing to help with any accommodations to enhance our stay. The shower and outhouse were kept clean and tidy and made our stay very comfortable. There were even various toiletries and sunscreen available. The location is wonderful, as it only takes 10-15 minutes to get into the park, and gas and other stores are only about 5 minutes away. I would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay near Big Bend.

We camped at site 6 and it was well worth it. The views are fantastic and the host, Karen, was very friendly and helpful. Just about 10 minutes from town and 15 from big bend entrance. 10/10 would stay again during our next trip out, would highly recommend.

Nice Property- Negative Experience

I wouldn't recommend staying here if travelling with kids or anything beyond a basic camping setup. I arrived on Sunday with my my special needs son and got a little lost on the way. Karen was condescending in telling me the directions were clear and that she didn't allow children under 12 (which I was abundantly clear about his age up front). We received the "Dark Skies" site which was logistically difficult to set up given my special needs child situation and additional camping amenities. Despite the fact that there was no one else on the property, I returned from 12 miles of hiking in Big Bend in 95+ degree heat to a message that I needed to move my site. Given my situation and challenges with both my setup and son, I simply packed up and left to stay in a hotel as it was not realistic for me to to set everything up again. It should not be a challenge to operationally manage a property with so few sites, and even if a mistake was made, it should absolutely NOT be me responsibility to resolve it by moving. Karen was unaccommodating and prioritized other campers over myself and my special needs son. I was not reimbursed for the 2 nights I didn't stay there and will absolutely not be returning.
