IF YOU WILL BE STAYING 3 NIGHTS OR LONGER, ASK ME FOR A DISCOUNT CODE!! We offer a uniquely secluded setting with stunning views of the Chisos Mountains. Located just 7 miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park, and 10 miles from the visitors' center at Big Bend Ranch State Park, it is a perfect base from which to explore all the hiking, boating, and scenic beauty that West Texas is known for. The arts, history, and entertainment of Terlingua Ghost Town are less than 2 miles away. Like most ruins in the Ghost Town, my stone house was built in the early 1900s to house a miner’s family from the nearby Rainbow Mine. I bought the property in 1986 and began restoring and rebuilding. In 2019 I retired here from NYC and began exploring possibilities for sustainable tourism. West Texas is one of the best places in the United States to view the Milky Way (both Big Bend parks are certified as International Dark Sky parks). We use shielded LED lighting around buildings and pathways to cut down on light pollution and optimize stargazing opportunities for our astrotourists. And we are applying for dark sky certification from the Texan By Nature program. Bear in mind that this is the desert, in all its rugged glory. There are critters, rocks, plants with thorns, slippery slopes, sink holes, rusted artifacts and broken glass from decades long past. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, and stay on the paths! We may eventually add a few more sites and expand our amenities, but our intention is always to provide remote, low-density accommodation for folks who are respectful of the land.

Site 6 - The private island

99% (38)
Tent site · Sleeps 3
Site 6 is the most private site. It is in a little ravine and from there, you cannot see any buildings or lights or car traffic. The trail leading to it is kinda bumpy and the gear cart will not make it all the way to the camping spot, but a lot of people have said it was worth the 4-minute hike from the parking to have such a secluded location.

Site 3 - Terlingua Dark Skies

Site 3 is private and spacious, about a 3-4 minute walk from the parking lot. It is the largest site, if you are bringing multiple tents. Great for stargazing!

Site 2 - Terlingua Dark Skies

Tent site · Sleeps 4
Site 2 is popular, with a great view of the arroyo. It is not as far from the shower or the parking as some others, if you have a lot of gear to schlepp! Note: If you are booking more than 3 guests, you must select the adjacent site from the dropdown under Extras.

Site 5 - Vehicle camping

100% (36)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 4 · Vehicles under 9 m
Site 5 is nearest to my house. Less private than the rest, but offers a great view of sunrise over the Chisos Mountains, including the Mule Ears peaks, in Big Bend National Park. It is the only site that you can drive into, if you are camping in or adjacent to your vehicle. Which makes it the only RV-friendly site. No hookups, but a long extension cord can be provided, or a generator, at a modest additional charge. So far, the access road has been successfully navigated and the site has been occupied by a 17-ft minivan that was towing a 15-ft pop-up camper, along with a Class B RV. They just took it slow coming and going and had no problem. I am not sure how much bigger than that we can go but will do my best to answer questions and help you figure it out.

This is our "glamping" site, situated on the saddle of a hill with views in all directions. Cots, bedding, drinking water, firewood, dishes, and other amenities provided. Access to communal rustic toilet, outdoor shower, and wash basin in communal area just a one-minute walk away. Can be set up with 2 XL Teton cots (38" wide, 3" mattress) or 2-3 Regular Coleman cots (24" wide, 2" cot pad). Ask for a discount code if you want a "no frills" option (tent, cots, and floor coverings provided but bring your own sleeping bags/blankets/pillows, etc.).
