When you are here you are family. Hi, I'm Danielle. My Mom, JoAnn, founded Black Horse Ranch in 2017. "You're family here" is something she said all the time to people who came to stay, and it is truly at the heart of our ranch. Black Horse is a place to enjoy nature, camping, campfires, and good company, in a place that feels like home. The property is a beautiful campground nestled into a nook of the Ocala National Forest. We are surrounded on 3 sides by forest, and you can ride or hike straight from any of the many trailheads on property! We offer 30 and 50amp sites, there is a bath house with full bathrooms and laundry, a Community Kitchen you are welcome to use, a screened in Pavilion for meals or hanging out, a POOL! (yes you read that right!) and a Clubhouse with couches, games and all! We have a few rentals (a cabin and RV) and we are working on getting more. We do have wifi on the property, and we also offer golf cart rentals. If you have horses, you'll love coming to Black Horse. We are surrounded by countless trails through the forest with the trail heads sitting right on property, two barns for horses, many outdoor stalls and paddocks, wash racks, and an extra large riding arena. There is world class fishing nearby at the St. John's River and we are right near many beautiful springs - which, if you have never spent time in a natural spring you will absolutely want to check that out! Kayaking, tubing, swimming galore in crystal clear waters. We are a 20 minute drive from the Villages which offers shopping, dining, and activities, as well as 20 minutes to historic Mount Dora which is a beautiful artsy downtown village. We are 1 hour from Daytona & New Smyrna, 1 hour from Orlando (Disney anyone?). There is plenty to do on the ranch and nearby the ranch. You will have a blast. We'll see you by the campfire!

Cabin with Outdoor Lounge Area

Our cozy cabin is a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom cabin with a full kitchen. It has a dining area with a table and a comfy seating area with a couch and coffee table. Fully stocked and outfitted, no need to bring you own sheets or anything like that. The cabin has a deck on it with seating to enjoy your morning coffee, lunch, or a nice BBQ dinner. It also has a loungey grass area with couches and market lights. It is close to the pool, and if you bring horses, there are paddocks nearby to keep them in.

The people are wonderful and it was fun seeing the horses. We did have an ant infestation and several ticks. The roads are rutted so drive slowly and carefully.

Black horse ranch was my first time using Hipcamp and if all places are as amazing as this I will be using them all the time. Danielle and her workers were friendly and amazing. The property was huge and clean. There was so much offered. A communal Kitchen, game room, suoer nice bath house and laundry house. A POOL!! Horse stables and trails. The campsites seemed great I was in 7 right next to the bathhouse since I was in a camper van which was great for me. I also met several other people who stay there during the winter with their horses and they were so friendly. I honestly can’t say enough good things about Black horse ranch. If you are in the area or can make a trip that way please do!

This needs to be said here because it is not in any of the reviews or listing. This is NOT a place for someone looking for peace and privacy. Sites are right next to each other with no cover. No fire pit no picnic table. Just a square of dirt. They do have a nice restroom facility. Ideal for people in campers with horses. Not for tent camping, or people looking for privacy and peace.

What a nice experience. I booked this campground to be close to family. I saw other reviews and expected it to provide for my basic needs of a full hook up site, but I got so much more. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Getting to see horses everyday was a delight. You won't have a paved site, but things are well maintained. Having a campsite rug is helpful.

Very pleasant stay. Loved being in the Ocala forest We rode our bikes in the forest, we saw deer. We had a campfire every night and everybody was friendly at the campsite. Campos checked in on us two days in a row made sure everything was going fine. No complaints.

Black Horse Ranch was not only relaxing but had many welcoming and helpful people! We were greeted as soon as we entered the property and directed where to go. We had a couple questions about setup, it was only our second time camping w an RV, and Danielle made sure to send over some help once we were parked! The bathroom/shower/laundry facility were VERY clean! We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent there! PS we do not have horses but I have a love of them and people were super friendly about letting us pet their horses ♥️

Nice friendly environment, quiet, beautiful, family oriented and most importantly peaceful. We immediately rebooked after completing our stay. Would recommend to family, co-workers and friends. I’m a nurse and work the weekends it’s well worth the drive back and forth. 😊

Having a laundry soap dispenser in the laundry room would be very helpful. Also providing a rudimentary map of the area would make things much more easily accessible. All in all this place is nice. I would stay here again, and will tell my friends who have horses about it.

Site 2 - Black Horse Ranch
We had the best time at Black Horse Ranch, and I can't really say anything bad about the experience! However, we must warn you about the SAND. We saw one review that mentioned it was very sandy, but none of the other reviews did, so we decided to take a chance. Pay attention, it is a sandy place! The HIP camp website STATED PLAINLY that 40 foot rigs would fit just fine. However, when we arrived, JoAnn was SHOCKED that our rig was so big, and I honestly thought for a minute she was going to tell us to leave. Also, when we made the reservation, we were given site 2. We took site 2 because a review said it was a good site for their "large rig". When we arrived at Black Horse, we were told site 2 was full. Again, JoAnn was very accommodating and very nice, and she drove us around the place till we found a spot we thought we could work with. We did set up camp, and we had a GREAT time there for two days! Everyone was sooooo nice!!!! Oh, we also signed up for a 50 amp spot on the HIP camp site, but when we arrived, because we couldn't get the site 2 we "thought" we were going to get, we ended up with a 30 amp site. AND, the last thing you might need to know is that there is NO WIFI. The HIP camp description says there is, but there is not. I sure hated to say anything bad about this place, because we had the best time. But these are things anyone with a large rig needs to know that may want to go there. Call ahead and check details.

Joann’s Black Horse Ranch was amazing even if you have no horse and just want to come down for a little while. Full hook ups , space for your horse ( if you have one) trails to walk or ride, a big arena, a pool and very nice pöble around you! Joann is very friendly and takes good care of you. The bathrooms are very nice and need. We will definitely come back when we are in the area. Thank you Joann for everything! Peter & Ann

Quiet, near Ocala National Forest
Black Horse Ranch
This is primarily a campsite for equestrians, with corrals for their horses included. At first we were unsure of how much it would suit our desires, as it is quite open with many large RVs and horse trailers. However, JoAnn the owner, made us feel welcome and assisted us in selecting a site that appeared to be what we had in mind when booking. We loved it! One thing that is important to know though is not all sites have fire rings or picnic tables. Thus bringing your own equipment is essential. It’s a lovely quiet place with easy accessibility to the Ocala National Forest for riding and hiking.

Riding high at Black Horse Ranch!

This is a fantastic alternative to the standard rv Park. We were met by our host Joann on arrival and she helped guide us into our space. She was very friendly and helpful, knew where all the good local hiking, fishing and springs were as well. Toilets and showers were also available. Even a pool area if you don’t want to go to the springs to cool off. As this is ranch and equestrian training center, there were multiple stables and horses. Overall, a great experience and all the hookups for electric, water and sewage were close and easily accessible. We will definitely be returning to enjoy more of everything the area has to offer!

Black Horse Ranch was much more crowded than I expected but my site was huge. Plenty of room for my 40 foot motorhome and my vehicle. Side note: make sure you specify 50amp if you need 50amp hookups because they are limited. Joann is very amicable and was very willing to accommodate our needs. It was very quiet and peaceful. Downtown Umatilla is about 7 miles away so you are in the country but still close to groceries, laundromat etc... We had an added bonus on Saturday morning...there was a competition in the arena and we got to watch some barrel racing.

Wonderful host! We encountered an issue with one of our hydrolic jacks and had to stay an extra night while we figured it out, and the host tried everything she could to help us! She asked all around the ranch for help, and made us feel calmed and welcomed! We are very thankful!
