There is a fire pit on site for you to toast marshmallows or cozy up near, and you can enjoy a bite to eat at the picnic table provided at each site. The picnic tables are placed beneath shade sails. There are two nice and new desert tan flushing Porta-Potties on-site, as well as showers for guests to use. These come in handy after a long day hiking. We hope you'll enjoy the beautiful open sky sunsets, sunrises, and stargazing as much as we do. We are located just 3 miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park. There are plenty of opportunities to get out and explore - you can hike, bike, canoe camp; kayak, off-road, swim, go horseback riding, visit hot springs, as well as visit restaurants, galleries, and listen to great music in Terlingua. There is something for everyone to feel free to bring the whole family. DIRECTIONS: Once you are on Road Runner Circle, go past the house on the left with the Christmas lights on. Please continue down the road and follow the road around the curve to the left. The campsites will be on the left and side behind the rock walls. The campsite number that is booked is the campsite you will stay in. Additional details to note: - We now have an above ground pool to keep cool in during the summer! Covered with a shade sail the water stays nice and chilly. ($10 fee/person) - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception and wifi are both available by the showers. Feel free to unplug during your stay though. - Seeing other campers on your trip at the campsite is very standard, as the sites are far enough apart to feel like they are yours, but they are not private. - Non potable water is provided on-site. The showers and non potable water is located approximately 1/4 mile from campsites 1-7. -We have friendly, quirky miniature goats named Clyde and Stella to visit while up at the showers. Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road.  We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults.  One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience.  We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views.  We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas.  We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property.  It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey.  We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration.  Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

We offer a uniquely secluded setting with stunning views of the Chisos Mountains. Located just 7 miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park, and 10 miles from the visitors' center at Big Bend Ranch State Park, it is a perfect base from which to explore all the hiking, boating, and scenic beauty that West Texas is known for. The arts, history, and entertainment of Terlingua Ghost Town are less than 2 miles away. Like most ruins in the Ghost Town, my stone house was built in the early 1900s to house a miner’s family from the nearby Rainbow Mine. I bought the property in 1986 and began restoring and rebuilding. In 2019 I retired here from NYC and began exploring possibilities for sustainable tourism. West Texas is one of the best places in the United States to view the Milky Way (both Big Bend parks are certified as International Dark Sky parks). We use shielded LED lighting around buildings and pathways to cut down on light pollution and optimize stargazing opportunities for our astrotourists. And we are applying for dark sky certification from the Texan By Nature program. Bear in mind that this is the desert, in all its rugged glory. There are critters, rocks, plants with thorns, slippery slopes, sink holes, rusted artifacts and broken glass from decades long past. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, and stay on the paths! Our intention is to provide remote, low-density accommodation for folks who are respectful of the land.

There is something for everyone to feel free to bring the whole family. DIRECTIONS: Once you are on Road Runner Circle, go past the house on the left with the Christmas lights on. Please continue down the road and follow the road around the curve to the left. The campsites will be on the left and side behind the rock walls. The campsite number that is booked is the campsite you will stay in. Additional details to note: - We now have an above ground pool to keep cool in during the summer! Covered with a shade sail the water stays nice and chilly. ($10 fee/person) - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception and wifi are both available by the showers. Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road.  We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults.  One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience.  We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views.  We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas.  We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property.  It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey.  We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration.  Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

The arts, history, and entertainment of Terlingua Ghost Town are less than 2 miles away. Like most ruins in the Ghost Town, my stone house was built in the early 1900s to house a miner’s family from the nearby Rainbow Mine. I bought the property in 1986 and began restoring and rebuilding. In 2019 I retired here from NYC and began exploring possibilities for sustainable tourism. West Texas is one of the best places in the United States to view the Milky Way (both Big Bend parks are certified as International Dark Sky parks). We use shielded LED lighting around buildings and pathways to cut down on light pollution and optimize stargazing opportunities for our astrotourists. And we are applying for dark sky certification from the Texan By Nature program. Bear in mind that this is the desert, in all its rugged glory. There are critters, rocks, plants with thorns, slippery slopes, sink holes, rusted artifacts and broken glass from decades long past. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, and stay on the paths! Our intention is to provide remote, low-density accommodation for folks who are respectful of the land.

Conveniently located just outside Terlingua, and 5 minutes from the park, the first things we noticed when we pulled in were the covered picnic table on a concrete slab, electrical outlet, and fire pit with swing-out grill. We used all three! The central hub shack and deck had a clean & sanitary toilet (gotta love that blue water!), shower, sink, and dishwashing counter gave us everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. I must give the shower a 10 out of 10 - clean, spacious, and large diameter rain shower head with excellent pressure and instant hot water - none of us wanted our showers to end!!! Better than showers in most 4 star hotels - no joke! Retief saw us off in the morning on his red Jeep and stopped to chat. Super nice guy! Highly recommend staying here, whether it’s for one day or a week!

A remote, off-grid adobe dome, powered by solar power, and near Big Bend National Park, as seen on HGTV, and numerous other publications. Brand new to Hipcamp, but we've been fortunate to host over a thousand guests on other platforms. The Off Grid Dome shelter is accepting rental guests to share the off-grid experience, and to also help fund this project and future projects . The dome is a very remote and unique space in the desert near Big Bend National Park. The dome rests in an isolated but easily accessible off-grid setting in one of the few remaining territories under a dark sky ordinance, which offers unmatched views of the night sky, and a completely unobstructed view of a horizon that delivers truly majestic sunrises and sunsets. Though the dome is isolated, the entrance to Big Bend National Park is just a 25 minute drive and the historic Terlingua Ghost town about the same. The dome is an earthen structure, with a cob (adobe) barrier to provide shelter from the desert elements such as heat, cold, winds, and rain. The small but functional dome kitchen provides a two burner propane stove and oven, as well as a refrigerator that is powered by solar power. In fact, all power to the dome comes directly from a modest solar energy system and will power phones, laptops, and lights, but not much more (no hair dryers for instance). The kitchen sink pumps water from a small rain collection cistern and thus I ask guests to be very strategic with water use. Guests are recommended to bring one's own drinking water, although backup bottled water is provided onsite as a backup at cost. The Dome bed sleeps two comfortably. Linens, pillows, and a blanket (and a duvet in colder months are provided for the main bed. The pallet couch does sleep a third person quite comfortably, but guests must bring their own linens or sleeping bag (and pillow) for a third guest. In hotter months, a fan is provided, and the nature of the thick adobe provides a buffer against the Summer temps (with limitations). The wrap around windows provides a good cross breeze and fresh air when needed. In cooler months, a small propane heater is provided for a little extra boost, as well as clean linens and a duvet cover. The dome and linens will not be cleaned during your stay. There is no flush toilet, and so you must be comfortable using a composting toilet that is in a separate, and private outhouse next to the dome. There is no shower on site, but I can give you recommendations for $2 coin showers in town. Or you can try an outdoor solar bag shower on the property. There is wifi on site. The property is very accessible by road, with only the last mile being on a gravel road in good condition. Read house rules to learn about amenities. SUMMERTIME DISCLAIMER (June through September): The Summer can get hot here in the desert and while the adobe dome gives a good buffer against the outside elements, there is no AC in the dome, just a fan. There are also perimeter windows to entice a night breeze. Also, bugs and other desert creatures tend to culminate in the Summer months. Don’t be surprised if you encounter a scorpion or black widow spider and don’t be frightened either as they are relatively harmless and non-threatening. I do have the dome on a somewhat forgiving 5 night out cancelation policy during off-peak periods and so if the 10 day forecast looks too scary for you, you can cancel without penalty. Many say that Summer is their favorite time of the year out here. But it all depends on one's heat tolerance. Flats is located conveniently off a paved road about half-way between Van Horn and Valentine. 20 minutes from Valentine and the Prada Store, 50 minutes from Marfa 60 minutes from Davis Mountains State Park 75 minutes from Guadalupe Mountains National Park Visitors Center 3 hours from Panther Junction Visitor Center in Big Bend Although our property is only five acres, we have no close neighbors. You can see a few other homesteads from here, many of which are unoccupied. For the most part it is very quiet, with only a handful of vehicles passing by on any given day. We have stars, rocks, views, solitude, and art. Within view of the property are Matthew Grey’s large-scale sculptures Broken Mile and Mile Dark, with a third sculpture underway. We are also in the process of installing our own installations on the property. We are an off-grid property running on well water and solar with a backup propane generator. Please keep in mind that our sites do not have unlimited water and electricity, and that you may hear a generator at times. We have a great setup here, and we enjoy the simplicity that comes with this lifestyle. With that said, this is a campsite, not a glampsite. Lobo Flats is Marfa’s dusty, crusty cousin and we like it that way. The campground is a brand-new endeavor; we welcome feedback as we refine the off-grid experience that we share with campers. We are an introvert friendly establishment, and while there will typically be someone around to help during your stay, you will have all the privacy you desire.

Nestled within the rugged and mesmerizing landscape of Terlingua, our off-grid desert camp offers an unparalleled escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. This camp is a sanctuary for those seeking solitude and a connection with the raw beauty of the desert. Nesting Star Camp is situated within the legendary Terlingua Ranch and is strategically located to provide easy access to the stunning offerings of Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park and the surrounding backcountry. The West entrance to Big Bend National Park is 23 miles from the camp. Big Bend Ranch State Park's East entrance is 38 miles from camp. The camp sits on 5 acres and is located 0.7 miles from Terlingua Ranch Road, which is a paved asphalt road leading to Hwy 118. The final 0.7 miles to the property consist of dirt and gravel roads maintained by the Property Owners Association of Terlingua Ranch (POATRI). These dirt and gravel roads leading to the camp are generally easily traversed, though they can become silty or muddy if it rains. In some areas, heavy rain may cause road flooding. We recommend driving an SUV or a truck, as low-profile cars may struggle depending on the road conditions that day. Please be aware that the roads within Terlingua Ranch, while publicly accessible, are located on private land. We kindly request that you not drive off of any roads, as the surrounding areas are all privately owned. While navigating the deeper parts of Terlingua Ranch can be challenging, reaching the camp is usually straightforward. We've driven in with a 3500 dually with a 20’ gooseneck horse trailer, and we’ve never encountered any issues. It’s easily accessible yet remote enough to showcase its pristine natural beauty. The surroundings are incredibly tranquil and serene. At night, under Nesting Star Camp's skies, the stars unveil a majestic tapestry that will leave you in awe. The night also awakens with the coyote calls, the gentle desert winds, and the possible flutter of a bat or owl hoot. We also have wild donkeys that roam the area, and you might hear them braying. Please avoid approaching them, though. We provide a composting toilet for your use. Please note that when we are not present to manage waste (#2), you will be responsible for removing the toilet liner bag and disposing of your waste in the provided trash cans. There is also a shower room, and we will supply solar shower bags for your use. If you’re not familiar with them, please research solar showers before booking. Essentially, they are bags you will be responsible for filling with water and placing in the sun to heat up. On a sunny day, you can achieve a temperature of around 115 degrees, although on cloudy days, it won’t heat beyond the ambient temperature. The camp features two uncovered decks for stargazing and one deck with a roof that is partially open on the sides, providing more shelter from the elements. Please be aware that this is an off-grid camp, meaning there is no running water or power on-site. You are required to bring your own water. Additionally, we request that you limit generator use to basic needs only and keep it off between 7 PM and 8 AM. Cell phone coverage on the property can be inconsistent, but on most days, you can expect to get 2-3 bars of 3G signal on Verizon and Google Fi. We personally use a cell phone booster and recommend one if you don't have one, on most days it can provide a 4-bar 3G service. Sometimes, you may need to find an elevated spot to obtain a strong signal. However, it’s important to note that reception can be unreliable, and we recommend you plan ahead. Starlink works very well here.

We close for the summer. We will re-open mid-August or when daytime temps are consistently below 95 degrees. Flats is located conveniently off a paved road about half-way between Van Horn and Valentine. 20 minutes from Valentine and the Prada Store, 50 minutes from Marfa 60 minutes from Davis Mountains State Park 75 minutes from Guadalupe Mountains National Park Visitors Center 3 hours from Panther Junction Visitor Center in Big Bend Although our property is only five acres, we have no close neighbors. You can see a few other homesteads from here, many of which are unoccupied. For the most part it is very quiet, with only a handful of vehicles passing by on any given day. We have stars, rocks, views, solitude, and art. Within view of the property are Matthew Grey’s large-scale sculptures Broken Mile and Mile Dark, with a third sculpture underway. We are also in the process of installing our own installations on the property. We are an off-grid property running on well water and solar with a backup propane generator. Please keep in mind that our sites do not have unlimited water and electricity, and that you may hear a generator at times. We have a great setup here, and we enjoy the simplicity that comes with this lifestyle. With that said, this is a campsite, not a glampsite. Lobo Flats is Marfa’s dusty, crusty cousin and we like it that way. The campground is a brand-new endeavor; we welcome feedback as we refine the off-grid experience that we share with campers. We are an introvert friendly establishment, and while there will typically be someone around to help during your stay, you will have all the privacy you desire.

Our inspiration for Back Forty RV Park comes from our Dad, JT Lindsey. J.T. and wife Lucille bought these 40 acres of land in 1972, moved their family into the farm house desperately needing attention, and raised their three children here. JT worked his entire life in agriculture as a farmer and cattle rancher. He was smart, hard working, and very mechanically inclined-he could fix anything! He was a veteran of the Korean War. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Nascar, and a good cup of coffee, but he loved his family the most. Summer vacation was RVing in Colorado, New Mexico, Tennessee, Alabama, South Dakota and Florida but only after harvest was done and the fields were plowed! Daddy was taken from us way too soon, but his love and affection for his family has remained with us through the years. His image appears in our signs and logos taken from our favorite photo. It’s our hope you feel like you are coming back home at Back Forty RV Park. Back Forty RV Park is a local owned park located in Quanah, Tx. Conveniently on US Hwy 287 between Amarillo and Dallas/Fort Worth. Our rural Texas location has wide open skies, amazing sunsets and beautiful sunrises. We offer a quiet, clean and friendly park for an overnight visit or long term resident who is working in the area. Park sits on 40 acres and includes 40 gravel pads, 12 pull thru and 28 back-ins.

Cisco is famously know for having the First Hilton Hotel established in 1920, The Worlds Largest Swimming Pool(out of commission) and the Santa Clause Bank robbery. Some of its featured attractions are its Museums full of western history, Antique stores, gift shops, Shopping Boutiques, Downtown festivities, nightlife downtown at RedGap Brewery where they sell freshly brewed beer and Muddy Mikes for food beverages and entertainment. Cisco is home of the Cisco Pie fest. Take a walk downtown to marvel at all the fully restored 1920's buildings. We are 4.5 miles North of Downtown Cisco. There is hiking nearby at The Old Zoo Trails.
