Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road. We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults. A Rock Hounds dream of minerals, stones and fossilized prehistoric microorganisms, as well as, the potential of finding the fossils of large prehistoric aquatic mammals. Yes, you are free to take a small sample of the thousands of quartz and calcite stones found in huge abundance. As you come to then end of Mailbox Rd., you'll see a residence to your left. Sierra Blanca was named after Sierra Blanca Mountain, just North-West of town. The town came into existence when competing railroads for a second (Southern) transcontinental railroad line came within 10 miles of one another in 1881. Jay Gould, famous railroad magnate and robber baron, drove a silver spike commemorating the event on Dec. 15th 1881. The town sprang up around that spot, although the population didn't reach 350 people until 1914. It is best described as grazing land that is flat to slightly sloping terrain covered with desert sagebrush and grasses. Learn more about this land: Primitive campsites offer nice views, solitude, and a small flat space to set up camp next to your vehicle. No shade, toilets (bring your own), or other amenities are provided at this time but are in the works. Sierra Blanca has mild winters and very hot summers but the desert can get cold at night. The weather is generally sunny but come prepared for changing conditions. This is not a commercial campground. Site is great for large groups. Larger RVs have trouble turning or parking so please no rvs over 26 ft. Bring your own toilet. Wildlife include rabbits and hares, javelina, woodcock, teal, sandhill crane, quail, pronghorn, mule deer, duck, dove, rattlesnake, rails, gallinules, and moorehens, toads and a variety of lizards. Sierra Blanca was named after Sierra Blanca Mountain, just North-West of town. The town came into existence when competing railroads for a second (Southern) transcontinental railroad line came within 10 miles of one another in 1881. Jay Gould, famous railroad magnate and robber baron, drove a silver spike commemorating the event on Dec. 15th 1881. The town sprang up around that spot, although the population didn't reach 350 people until 1914. It is best described as grazing land that is flat to slightly sloping terrain covered with desert sagebrush and grasses. Learn more about this land: Primitive campsites offer nice views, solitude, and a small flat space to set up camp next to your vehicle. No shade, toilets (bring your own), or other amenities are provided at this time but are in the works. Sierra Blanca has mild winters and very hot summers but the desert can get cold at night. The weather is generally sunny but come prepared for changing conditions. This is not a commercial campground. Site is great for large groups. Larger RVs have trouble turning or parking so please no rvs over 26 ft. Bring your own toilet. Wildlife include rabbits and hares, javelina, woodcock, teal, sandhill crane, quail, pronghorn, mule deer, duck, dove, rattlesnake, rails, gallinules, and moorehens, toads and a variety of lizards. Mr. Keaveny built the house himself over a 10 year period. Very private, although Mr. Keaveny lives on the property in his Jayco most of the time, and sometimes a camping site is rented ----however always giving the house lots of space. The property is located just 30 minutes from the entrance to BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, and only 7 minutes from the entrance of Terlingua Ranch Road. The roads are maintained year round and don’t require you have a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle to get access to the site. On the land itself you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views of jaw-dropping mountain ranges to the south. There are two campsites available “DRE” and “TONY” both have gated access and a cleared out space for your tents or Rigs. These are Off-Grid campsites which mean no running water or electricity, so please come prepared.

Beautiful location- nothing like sunrise & sunset with El Capitan in view. Glad we arrived pre-sunset which is definitely recommended. Better views than BLM land nearby. We hiked Guadalupe peak and drive was <20 min in total.

The actual campsite was awesome, but the directions and information provided in an email from Lauren was very confusing and overly complicated. Recommend she streamline directions with single bullet points and put a few more signs along arduous route the Star Gazer camp site. Also, would be beneficial to inform campers who choose this site (especially those riding adventure motorcycles) that it would be highly beneficial to get your firewood before trekking to the camp site. Same with using the showers.....

5 nights at Starry Night Retreat

It was serene and far enough away from other people to really get to enjoy the solitude. My 2 pups and I spent 4 nights there to connect to nature and decompress from a stressful time in life. It was perfect for that! The dogs learned to quickly look before they step and the thorns in their feet were a minimum. I was surprised at the amount of traffic on Reimers Rd., and there was one neighbor kinda close in my opinion. Overall I had a wonderful time and was able to disconnect from technology! So amazing! I felt 100% safe.

Had the best experience! We had the campground by ourself and felt safe! I love the views of the Guadalupe Mountains and how close we were to the park. Did hear the noise of cars passing by on the highway but it helped me fall asleep so I didn’t mind.

Clean, quiet and beautiful views! Cafe was amazing! If you have Apple Maps, type in Terlingua ranch lodge and should get you there! Road there is mostly paved but last 3 miles was a solid dirt road. It’s roughly an hour to the gates of big bend. All in all, really great place to stay!

Great Spacious Pull-through sites with Elec/water. Septic dump is avail on property if needed.

Lots of space, workers always friendly RV sites Have water and electricity and it’s perfect! We moved from the front area site 11 to back area site 15 for more privacy away from traffic and site 15 is next to shade area/ picnic table that we were able to enjoy. They did have traffic from workers going to the stalls behind us but less than store customers traffic which was better. Highly recommend this area. No cell service here but they do have wifi access for guests if needed. We use our Starlink so can’t rate reception of the WiFi.
