Beautiful desert land with a view of Hueco Tanks State Park. This land is barely starting up so do not expect any glamping or 5 star facilities. There is electricity for RVs or window units for tents. There is a little trash here and there but I am working on cleaning this place up. Be patient and enjoy it for what it is. All natural! Be safe, this is the desert and home to critters, spiders, horned frogs, lizards, ants, cayotes, and probably snakes although I haven't seen any. There is a little shed where you can cook, get some shade, or just relax. The mesquite trees are being worked on so they are not big enough to provide decent shade. Be safe, be smart and have water with you at all times. There is no water, and no showers. But I am working on it! This spot is perfect for those hip campers visiting Hueco Tanks and need a spot to park or rest. It's for hip campers that are used to primitive camping and also to the people in the city that want to get away for a night or two but not drive too far out. The sunsets and stargazing are amazing. Far from the city but close enough to a 10 min drive to a grocery store.

PT Ranch: People are Greater than Things. This is a great location for people to come and relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Nestled only 0.6 of a mile off of Highway 62/180 in Hudspeth County (On North Howling Wind Road), Texas, this ranch offers four large (30'x60') RV sites, and four small (20'x30') RV sites. There is ample hiking nearby (Sierra Tinaja Pinta, Cerro Diablo, and Miller Mountain in The Cornudas Mountains), and the Guadalupe Mountains National Park is only 42 miles to the East. When you need to reconnect with city life, El Paso is only about 45 minutes to the West, and the small town of Dell City is only 20 minutes away, where you can access Two T's grocery store (they also have a coin-operated laundry). There's also two gas stations there (but only one accepts cash). If you want a good restaurant, the Cornudas Restaurant is just five miles to the West on the way to El Paso. They have good food there, and great service. PT Ranch welcomes families, meditators, overlanders, hikers, mountain bikers, motorhome enthusiasts, snow birds, sun gazers, bush pilots, equestrians, paragliders, baloonists, kite flyers, and anyone who's out there to enjoy the natural beauty of West Texas and the world in general. We ask that our guests pack in and pack out what they bring. As we are a newcomer to Hipcamp, we do not have any RV hook-ups, or out-houses yet. We also explicitly request that our guests not bring any drugs or alcohol onto the site--this is a dry listing--we don't like drugs and alcohol, they bring demons, and we don't like demons. Also, we support the Second Amendment, but ask that our guests not discharge firearms on the site unless it's an emergency. We love dogs, but if your dog is big and aggressive, not very obedient, and potentially dangerous to other people, kids, and small pets, we ask that you keep your buddy on a leash and make sure that he/she doesn't get into trouble. Thanks. P.S. PT Ranch is a Private Member Association, owned and operated by a private trust, and all it takes to become a member for life is to book a night and complete your reservation.

Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site camping guide

Overview

About

Adventure awaits where four red rock hills rise above the West Texas desert. We're talking world class bouldering, climbing and trekking through Mars-like outcrops.

Just one caveat: you can only access the park with a guided tour or a permit. There's a cap in place to protect the fragile landscape. To get yourself on that guest list of lucky visitors, reserve your spot up to three months in advance.

Rock climb, hike or stay overnight to see the milky way light up the sky. Have fun exploring Huecos, but be respectful—this is a sacred place. In fact, people have been coming here for nearly 1,000 years. (The water collecting in the natural rock basins and huecos was a big draw.) Today, thousands of surreal rock paintings remain, offering a glimpse into the past.

There are 20 campsites to choose from, complete with nearby restrooms and a dump station. Just get ready to ditch the firewood—ash producing fires aren't allowed as they can damage the rocks.

Notable campgrounds

Hueco Tanks offers 20 campsites for a serene overnight experience in the desert.
