1100 acres of gorgeous natural land at the headwaters of the Medina River. Crystal clear and clean spring feed water. Fourth-generation family owners. Remote camping. About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out.
NO FISHING
As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around.
We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails.
There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful.
We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch.
Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are--

2. Another my brother likes that has a cypress tree submerged you can sit on he calls the 1000 waterfalls

As of 2026 my day job hours have changed. I no longer get out of work at 3, now it is 6 PM. If you are arriving same-day you should probably message me first to make certain your site is ready otherwise you might be rolling the dice a bit.

Easy access spots, small ghost town to check out and take photos if you would like. Only a minute from town. 50 amp hookups. Water and restroom in the ghost town. Washer and dryer in restroom. I stumbled across this awesome place just before covid shut us all down. It was hidden in the middle of overgrown brush and not visible from the street. That didn't matter, it was love at first sight! We tried to come on the weekends and work on clearing but it wasn't enough so we moved out here last year and have made it not only a home but a fun place to live and share with others.

1100 acres of gorgeous natural land at the headwaters of the Medina River. Crystal clear and clean spring feed water. Fourth-generation family owners. Remote camping. Very private with plenty of varied terrain for hiking swimming, tubing, biking or just hanging out in a hammock enjoying the breeze and peace and quiet.
About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out.
NO FISHING
As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around.
We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails.
There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful.
We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch.
Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are--

2. Another my brother likes that has a cypress tree submerged you can sit on he calls the 1000 waterfalls

Everfree Shire Ranch is an 11 Acre Estate and a magical oasis for travelers, wanderers, and the displaced who are seeking an economic alternative to regular campgrounds and parks. There are 5 acres of available housing options and campgrounds with a fantasy theme! The 6 acres in the back are grazing fields for horses. Perfect for star gazers / practicing camping! Groceries a few miles out. The central building has indoor lodging available and the side bathroom with indoor toilet / washer / dryer may be used by campers as well. There is an outdoor shower with heated water but please be mindful that swimwear is required because we have not finished filling in the slots between the wood fence panels.

As of 2026 my day job hours have changed. I no longer get out of work at 3, now it is 6 PM. If you are arriving same-day you should probably message me first to make certain your site is ready otherwise you might be rolling the dice a bit.

Easy access spots, small ghost town to check out and take photos if you would like. Only a minute from town. 50 amp hookups. Water and restroom in the ghost town. Washer and dryer in restroom. I stumbled across this awesome place just before covid shut us all down. It was hidden in the middle of overgrown brush and not visible from the street. That didn't matter, it was love at first sight! We tried to come on the weekends and work on clearing but it wasn't enough so we moved out here last year and have made it not only a home but a fun place to live and share with others.

We had a great time. The camp was very secluded and peaceful and truly worth the effort to get to it. Must have a truck with clearance to get there. The host has it set up with lots of conveniences. Plenty of area to explore with lots of hiking opportunities. Swimming hole is awesome!

Our trip to Laf Ranch was great! We stayed at The Ladder and felt that it was a beautiful campsite, it felt private and really enjoyed having the swimming hole right next to us. Fritz was a great host and very friendly and gave us good information about the ranch. If you enjoy off roading as well this site has some good trails, we drove up the ridge road and really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend this spot!

My two sons, dog, and I stayed in The Bunkhaus and had a really wonderful time. Our family has been going through some rough times and I was looking for a place where we could spend time together and find peace. It was a bonus that we could bring our 16-month old rescue dog with us as he is our first dog and very spoiled. He was a little over protective but everyone we met was very kind about it. The property was exactly what we needed - far away from city life but also with the amenities to make it an easy place to go and unwind. Also, having Garner and Lost Maples (two very dog friendly spots) nearby was so convenient. We were delighted to be able to swim and hike with our pup. All of us agreed that this was a great trip and that we want to come back to The Bunkhaus. Thank you to Woody and his family for their hospitality and kindness to my family.

Great spot I would’ve never found without hipcamp. Fritz is awesome and this piece of land is really neat. We camped 2 nights in Big Spring and loved it, there’s tons of variety to explore, the drive in is incredible and it seems like Fritz is working on making lots of improvements to the land for better camping spots. He’s got a great HQ spot with a message board for camp/updates. Oh and lastly we loved that we couldn’t get any cell service but that wifi was available at HQ if we needed it. Definitely camp here! Try to get big pond if you can, but all the camping is great.

We had a 10/10 experience at LAF ranch. I stayed at the Teepee site with my 5 and 3 year old. The ranch is stunningly beautiful, we found several watering holes, and just had an incredible time overall. Fritz' directions were spot on, and the ranch is meticulously kept. Looking forward to going many more times.

We had a beautiful spot next to a spring fed creek that was perfect for us. The drive in rivals state/national park vibes and is located relatively close to a few parks, Garner being the closes. Our spot was nestled between a rockwall and a large hill that made it secluded even from the road you drive in on. A huge plus was the canoe that was there for us to use at our leisure. Also worth mentioning, our dog had the best time. Fritz was very welcoming and a great host. Definitely would recommend!

We loved the sunrise from site 6. We were super close to the main area where the outdoor kitchen which was great since we were able to use the fridge to store some food. We were lucky that no one else was there so we had the whole place to ourselves. Woody is an amazing host. Extremely nice and welcoming and he even invited us to go to the local bar in Utopia to watch some live music. Besides Utopia, everything is a quick 20/30min drive. We went to the bat tour, Lakey, a couple of spots on the Rio Frio...
