When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. A network of trails criss-cross the creek and wind throughout the property under a peaceful canopy of large beautiful trees. Don't be surprised if you run into deer, squirrels, or roadrunners! Our property is home to a wide variety of hill-country wildlife. - Each of our campsites are private and surrounded by forest. - Each site has a fire ring for campfires - Our trees are our most precious natural resource and set this campground apart! Please don't do anything to harm them. - Port-o-john is available on site. - All of our campsites are primitive. No electric or water here. - When you camp with us you are welcome to explore and play on the entire property! We have 55 acres of trails and woods to explore! Please bring your bikes, trail shoes, or whatever helps you have fun in the wild! - Hammocks welcome! We have so many trees! All of our sites are hammock-friendly. - When you check-in, just text us, your host will help you find your campsite. - Some sites are drive-in where your vehicle can park right next to the fire. Others are walk-in and require a short hike of 100' or less from your parking space. You can indicate your preference during booking or at check-in. If you want to drive right into your site, Campsites 2, 3, 6, and 12 are the sites you want. Some of our campsites are more secluded than others and offer extreme privacy in the most beautiful settings we have to offer. If you're looking for a wilder campsite surrounded by huge old trees and all the peace the woods have to offer, just request Campsites 4, 5, 7, or 8. Each of these sites requires a walk of at least 50' from your vehicle to the fire ring. Site 13 is only for backpackers or people willing to hike about 500 yards to the campsite over rough terrain. There is no way to drive to it or even get close except on foot. But it is spectacular and beautiful! Only three sites can accommodate a smaller trailer or camper. Site 1, Site 2, and site 6. Please notify me in your booking if you intend to bring a camper and I can accommodate you. We practice leave-no-trace as much as possible. So please pack out anything you pack in. You are responsible for removing all trash. If any garbage is left behind in your site you will be billed for the cleanup. We have a dumpster located near the front gate. Please use it and put all your trash in there. Heads-up! We have a small farm on the property. Dogs are always welcome and we LOVE our furry friends! For their safety and the safety of our livestock please keep them leashed while on property.

We enjoyed camping at site #2, along the Medina River. The stars were bright and we could hear the river. The shower and restrooms were clean. Valerie, one of the hosts, was very welcoming and friendly. My only issue was this one mocking bird who woke us up each day…we think they either thought our car was a bird feeder or that their reflection was a possible mate. They attacked the side of my car over and over, until we put a towel are that part of the car. Aside from the bird, a very peaceful stay.

This Hipcamp spot is hands down one of the best we’ve stayed at. The property is massive (around 1100 acres), which makes it perfect for overlanders who want space, privacy, and the freedom to truly choose their own camp spot. There are plenty of trails to explore, and the terrain keeps things interesting without feeling crowded or restricted. Warren, the host, was outstanding. He checked on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He was also incredibly kind with our kids and even let them play together, which made the experience feel more like visiting friends than just camping. If you’re into overlanding, off-grid camping, or just want a wide-open Texas camping experience, this place is hard to beat. Easily one of the best spots in Texas and we’ll definitely be back.

This was my second time staying here and it did not disappoint. It even got better! There is a new bathroom ‘bivvy’ near the riverside campsites that made those late night/ early morning nature calls way easier to handle with no hill to climb. The owners were fantastic once again and I really valued their site manager, Valerie. She provided excellent customer support and had our firewood already at our campsite so we didn’t need to haul it down. This past weekend was very relaxing and peaceful. Will come back again. Highly recommend.

This was truly a remote spot that felt like you were nowhere near civilization although it was only a 1.5 hour drive from Helotes. We loved the views, river crossings, and hiking. It was so nice to be able to let our small dogs hike with us off leash- and feel so safe! The campsite was clean and had a picnic table as well as great trees to hang your hammock. Communication with host was punctual and friendly. We will definitely be back and try out different spots on the property.

We had a wonderful stay at Sparrow Bend River Retreat. The property looked exactly as advertised — the photos were spot on. The walk from our RV spot to the Medina River was short and easy, and the river itself was absolutely beautiful, with crystal-clear water. Seeing deer on the property and enjoying the peaceful setting made it a perfect place to slow down, recharge, and get some fresh air. The sunsets were stunning, and the entire area felt calm and rejuvenating. Everything was very clean, and we appreciated the locked gate, which made it feel like a safe place to leave our off-grid trailer while we explored Kerrville. Angela was fantastic to communicate with — responsive, helpful, and great to deal with. The only minor downsides were some dogs barking nearby, but once we mentioned it to Angela, the neighbor’s dogs quieted down. Honestly, it still beats train or highway noise any day. The hot water for showers didn’t last very long, but it wasn’t a deal-breaker. Overall, this is a beautiful, peaceful retreat that we’d happily return to when we’re looking for rest, nature, and quiet time by the river.
