About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out. NO FISHING As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are-- 1. Below the Green Cabin 2. Leann's land is in a remote, beautiful part of Hill Country --we were the only people camping on the property so it was extra quiet and peaceful. My 9 year old roamed the property with his trusty map and felt like a true explorer. The campground is close to Garner State Park and about a half hour from Lost Maples.

Weekend Trip to Grapevine Springs Retreat

Had my son's boy scout patrol campout there this past weekend and had an amazing time. Wilson could not have been more hospitable and went above and beyond to make it a campout everyone would remember. He even guided us on a ~3 mile hike of the ranch and brought a friend with him to help the boys learn some new knots. The ranch is absolutely gorgeous and our campsite was perfect, nestled among a canopy of trees by a dry creekbed. Could not recommend this place any more, we will definitely be back.

LAF Ranch felt like a little hidden gem of Texas. My wife and I ventured out here for a night. We had planned to go to Lost Maples to see the fall colors but decided not to go after seeing the beautiful bald cypress trees by the creek at LAF Ranch. The colors were stunning and the weather was beautiful, we had the whole Big Open campsite to ourselves so it felt like our own little oasis. Thanks to Fritz for providing access to such a wonderful location, and for being such a pleasant host! We’ll definitely be back!

This ranch is in an absolutely beautiful location. We visited over the Halloween weekend with the native fall grasses in full beauty. At night we sat, had some wine, looked at the stars, counted satellites as they passed over and listened to the coyotes off in the distance. This is a great location to slow down and just get away.

It was a beautiful place and lots of deer. The owners are really sweet too which was really welcoming to have. We did tent camping right in the center near the bathroom which was perfect. The bathrooms are very well kept and clean. My boyfriend and I have already decided to go back for another stay.

So far my favorite tent camping spot within 2 hours of San Antonio, TX. Keep in mind this is a remote location. Don't expect to plug in an address into your phone and follow the route - there is no cell service/phone GPS, but Fritz's written instructions and maps are enough to get you there. Plan ahead of time and you shouldn't have any problems. There are several shallow rivers that you must cross to get to the campsite. I would recommend an SUV, truck, or cross trekking vehicle; we took a Subaru Outback and had no issues whatsoever. The campsite is amazing. It's perched right next to the water, with a fire pit and plenty of flat ground to place a large tent. Beautiful views, and there is a canoe to take on the water. There is no light pollution, and it was silent at nighttime. It is the perfect place to relax, unplug, and unwind. There is no running water, electricity, or bathrooms, so plan accordingly. My wife, dog, and I loved how remote/quiet this place was. Our only regret is not staying more than one night!

The drive to the ranch and onto to the ranch was beautiful and scenic. . My kids love the tent camping. We met Fritz at his Cabin to go over a few rules and regulations, a very nice gentleman. My family and I would definitely recommend LAF ranch.

Was a great location right off the highway and very quiet. It is a campground and event location with a nice amount of wildlife within the fenced area. We didn't have much time since we were passing through but would love to return and spend some time here. Our spot was in the front but still was very quiet and couldn't hear the highway. Only possible negative would be that the front pull through sites were right next to each other and would have been on top of others if the row had been full. But the site was good and the hookups were very easy.
