Tired of the city ordinances that restricted raising fouls, I decided to look for an acreage that is not too far nor too close to the city and which allowed the raising of farm animals. As of this writing, we have 2 beautiful heifers, 18 sheep, and colorful giant kois in the pond that once in a while can be seen when they swim near the surface.
Stay in the log cabin, or pitch a tent. Enjoy stargazing, or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the property.
Pick wild grapes
or wild blackberries (when in season) or spring wildflowers. Kayak or canoe in the pond.
Bring your fishing gear and bait.
Cabin use is free, but these are STRICT RULES.
1. No pets please, not even emotional support animals of any kind due to allergy in the family (we use the cabin when not booked).
2. No smoking inside the cabin
3. Do not use the bathroom towels for kitchen purposes
or to wipe off dirt
4. Please no outdoor footwear indoors, but you are welcome to wear clean indoor footwear. Violation will result in forfeiture of the entire deposit
5. Cars MUST be parked on the rocked section, thus walking is necessary from this point.
This is a 2-3 minute walk. The driveway might be dry but, no vehicles will be allowed past the rocked section due to unpredictability of weather. If it rains, vehicles will get stuck in the pasture.
6. Never leave food - solid or liquid - where ants can find them or you will cause them to infest the house including your bed! They can do so faster than you can imagine.
7. Please do not bring more people than officially booked, or we will cancel the reservation. No refund. We also close the gate once you have checked in to prevent the animals from escaping.
8. The moisture content can cause shrinkage or expansion of the ground, which can lead to leveling issues to the cabin. So please be aware that doors may or may not open or close smoothly.

The Rock Pit is a 5 acre swimming hole located in Trinity County that has been there over 50 years. Long ago they had dug out an area on a hill for rock on the dirt roads, and hit and underground water table. There are no fish in the Rock Pit, as the pH is 4.5, so no fish will live in it. I recall swimming there as a small boy, and wanted to share my memories with others. Depth ranges all over, but the deep end is around 15 feet. I have 5 kayaks currently, but bring yours if you have them, along with your vests.
There is fishing in Lake Livingston, my place is north of it. There is access to Lake Livingston via White Rock Creek. A public boat ramp in on Highway 94, just outside Trinity. Or you can go back towards Trinity, to highway 357 and go to a ramp closer to the big lake.
Tall pine tress, a few Oaks, and maple trees surround the place. Bring your mosquito repellant, as you are in the country!
The place is raw right now, but I am planning improvements such as a few A frame cabins, a showering area and so on. So many things to do!

The last 5 miles of the drive are on a "Red Dirt Road" and it can be bumpy or even slippery if it's rained recently. I've never heard of any issues in any vehicles but it's a county road. You will leave with red dirt on your vehicle but that's part of the appeal, the secluded getaway :)
Once you start down the driveway you'll see the lake through the trees, making the rough 5-mile ride worth it.

Terry runs a great camp. Everything is exactly as described. You can camp to whatever level you want, from a cabin to unplugged tenting it. Can't imagine a spot more convenient to multiple trail heads either. I'll definitely be coming back.

Weekend Trip to Circle C CampGrounds
My husband and I made reservations for two nights. It was my dog‘s first experience to go overnight with us. We enjoyed the Cabin so much we stayed a third night. We have been wanting to go to the Lone star Trail for years. My husband has wonderful memories of taking Boy Scouts on the trail many years ago. I had never gone before. The campsite is located between TH3 and TH4 so it was a perfect location. The Cozy cabin is designed with attention to detail and love by TERRY, Camp host and owner. The tent campsites are nicely arranged close to one of the two stocked ponds. There is a great community shelter with a shower stall and sink, picnic table and barbecue facilities.
Terry is very nice and made sure we didn’t need anything. We couldn’t have asked for a greater 3 day stay and will be back. I hope you will also.

Absolutely loved camping at 5d ranch!!
We had another camp site we were supposed to stay at but a tree fell over that campsite so very short notice we booked a spot at 5D ranch and they were very accommodating for us and we are greatly appreciative of it. The campsite was perfect. So many trees so was very shaded and having that seclusion as well being tucked back. The pond was awesome as well, we were able to take the boats out and had an amazing time! Absolutely loved it and are definitely coming back again!

I loved loved LOVED camping here. It’s a true paradise in east Texas. If I could stay a whole week I would. A huge storm came through Saturday night so we just relaxed in the tent and enjoyed the rain banging against our tent. The trails are beautiful and rugged in a way that makes you feel far away from the city. We had our fire pit glowing all weekend and enjoyed the sunset disappearing into the trees and moons-rise glowing above our camp. The free Kayaks are such a great touch. The water hole is a perfect place to refresh yourself and feel at ease.

Great little spot for just a weekend! Host were very friendly and accommodating. There was 9 of us in the cabin, and 3 of them were teenage boys! You might want to bring an extra fan or 2 for the bunk bed room. Bring games to play for indoors and outdoors.

5D ranch is a charming campground with a mixture of forest and meadow. The directions were clear, the host friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms far better than a porta potty.
Site 22 specifically is set just inside the edge of the treeline and has a view across the meadow. The bathroom is a short walk across the meadow. The ground is sandy and even after several days of heavy rain we didn’t have trouble with puddles or mud. There are no other campsites within 100 ft of site 22. There is plentiful shade, trees for hammocks, flat ground for a tent, and a centrally placed fire ring. We didn’t have trouble with bugs or ants.
Our kiddos did the “meet the ponies” and “feed the chickens” experiences and said that they had a great time. Overall we had a good experience and would stay here again

This spot is amazing and peaceful. My two dogs and I had the whole place to ourselves since we came on a weekday which was really nice since it’s fenced in and I didn’t have to worry about my dogs. Terry was very accommodating and brought us firewood. Bathroom is super clean. Will come back if I visit the Sam Houston forest again!

The ranch was a great place for our 3-night stay with our dogs. The site we chose (#9) was secluded and large - big enough for a family gathering. It was mostly shaded, which was great for keeping cooler on warm days. We noticed a lot of variety in the types of sites available - some on the smaller side, some very large, some remote, some in more open areas - so anyone should be able to find the right spot for their needs. The main bathroom (no electricity/hot water) was clean and well-kept. We enjoyed the trails, and even enjoyed getting a little lost in the woods! The host was friendly and efficient. I'd recommend it and would definitely go back.

This was our first camping trip with our toddler, and I couldn’t have found a better spot!
The property is peaceful, beautiful, and well kept. Julie took great care of us. Site 17 is secluded and surrounded by shade trees, close walk to an outhouse, and has easy access to trails. The lake is not far at all, and our son loved fishing, the boats, and just throwing rocks in the water.
We will definitely be back.

This was a nice reasonably quick location. Not too far from Houston when you want to get away for a couple of days. The staff for super nice and friendly.

5D ranch was a wonderful stay! Campsites were in great condition and the property is well maintained (clear pathways, clean trails, etc).
Campsite 10 is very secluded and exactly what I was looking for. Perfect if you want to truly feel “away” from everyone but still a couple minutes walk from other sites and the out house. Other campers consisted of families & dogs that were all very kind! We were able to meet some folks at the fishing pond while having plenty of space to do our own thing.
But I must say that Julie and her family are what made this an incredible experience. From the second we checked in to the moment we left, Julie and her daughter were so welcoming. Felt like we had visited several times :) will definitely be back!
