Awarded South Dakota's best Hip Camp 4 times. Uncle B's farm is a small 11 acre hobby farm with a large vegetable garden, chickens, peafowl, guinea fowl, turkeys, dogs, and cats. There is an old quarried stone railroad bridge and a few short walking trails around the pond. The pond is at the back of the property where I have 6 dry camp sites listed as Uncle B's farm for tents or self contained RV's. All sites have partial to full shade and most have mature trees that will work for a hammock or tensile tent. All of the campsites have a firepit, some with cooking grates and all sites have a picnic table.
The "shower shack" is shared by all guests and has 2 separate 3/4 baths with all modern plumbing. There is also a basic outdoor kitchen with a few portable grills as well as a sink with modern plumbing.
Available at Uncle B's RV Camper site I have 3 RV sites with water and 30 Amp electrical hookups.
My "Ready Set Camp" listing is a dome tent set up and furnished with 4 cots, table, and lamp as well as a match ready fire.
The Barn loft apartment is a studio apartment with a small galley kitchen and private bath.
The Hippie Bus is new for the 2025 season and offers a trip back in time.

Downhome Country Farm is 10 acres of woods and prairie with a large garden, chickens, wild turkeys, guinea fowl, mules, horses, a dog, and bee hives in the pasture. We have two restored vintage campers that and multiple tent sites.The bathroom and solar shower are shared by all guests. There are 2 sites for self-contained RV's with 20A electric available and water at some sites. 2 tent sites are available until the hay season (August) then the pasture is wide open tent camping. Horse boarding with camping available too. Each site can request individual fire rings. We have an outdoor community area that has a large fire pit, covered shelter and a woodfired pizza oven that will be in use on some weekends and by request. A nature trail, fresh produce usually. A tetherball!! Plus national touring musicians are known to provide pop up private concerts some weekends and impromptu jam sessions by the campfire or on the front porch. On occasion, we have outdoor movies(when the sun goes down early) and morning yoga along with great activities in the surrounding community too. Or just hang out in the hammocks or swing from the 60 foot swing in the old cottonwood and soak in that downhome country feeling while it “snows” in July. On our ranch is the original 1906 Ashley Homestead Shanty. We have a 1905 rural schoolhouse that is fully furnished for our guests to explore. A 1940s tourist cabin with two bedrooms (full-sized bed and twin-sized bed) is available for rent. We also have for rent, a new tiny house with a queen bed and a pull-out sofa.
A new two-bathroom shower house is now available for our guests' use.
There are seven electric only pedestals for your RV or camper.

What makes us unique is that we are exclusive to registered guests and do not allow ATVs or side-by-sides on the property, allowing for a comfortable, quiet, and relaxing stay. Our RV park overlooks the 1874 permanent camp of Lt. Col. Custer during his Black Hills Expedition; pictures of this encampment are displayed in the Custer County 1881 Courthouse Museum.

2 nights at Bear Den Cabins & Camp
We had the best time at Tammy & Tim's property. The glamping tent was so comfy and in a beautiful setting. There are pavilions with BBQ grills and some shade when needed. The bathhouse is spotless and has everything you need. The highlight of the property is Tammy! She is such a gracious hostess and made sure we had everything we needed. We can't wait to go back for another getaway!

This was the cutest little cabin with all the necessities. We relaxed by the fire and had an amazing homemade pizza made by the hosts. It was so delicious. I cant wait to use the sourdough starter they had available for purchase. They showed us around their beautiful land. We would Definitely recommend this place.

We stayed at this hipcamp 1 night on our camping adventure across the country! While, we enjoyed many hipcamps along the way, this one was probably my favorite! It was beautiful and private! The hosts were so nice and easy to communicate with! The bathhouse was a very nice amenity, clean with a nice hot shower! This area is so amazing and we are so grateful that we got to enjoy their paradise for a night!

We decided to camp here after we couldn't get a spot in Custer State Park, but after staying here we think it was even nicer than staying in the park. First off, the location is great. You have easy access to the town of Custer and easy access to all parts of the state park. In other words you are right in the middle of everywhere you want to go, as opposed to the park campgrounds which put you more on one side or the other. The site itself was great with nice grassy space and a nice view. Add in clean bathrooms a convenient dump and partial hookups at our site and it's a winner.

Brian lives on a beautiful property that he has worked hard to develop for campers. The sites are very individual, with trees and space between campsites. The bathroom/showers are convenient and clean and he has an outdoor kitchen set up for use as well. His property is a delight to explore as there are numerous gnomes and surprises to discover. The night was quiet and dark - located outside a city there were clear skies and only nature’s nighttime sounds. It was a much needed reprieve on a long road trip and by far and away my favorite place on our trip. We will absolutely stay again when traveling that way!

Brian was an excellent host and very friendly conversationalist who went out of his way to trade stories and tell jokes. The farm is charming and well kept; Brian clearly puts a lot of effort into its upkeep and development, and wants to make sure you feel at home there. After being rained out earlier in South Dakota, I was a little trepidatious about camping again when the weather could change, but the overwhelmingly positive reviews for Brian’s hipcamp convinced me to change my mind and give it a shot. A sign of a great host and mc is that they put your fears to rest at once, and after traveling across dark and wet roads for 5 hours to get to Brian’s, I was immediately soothed by his demeanor and accommodation for us. Without even needing to ask or inquire about our situation, Brian seemed to sense what we really needed was somewhere dry and warm, so he set us up with a sheltered clearing, some kindling and firewood, and fixings for s’mores so we could settle in the right way. In the morning we were greeted by curious, friendly dogs, cats, and regal peacocks that were darting around the farm. Brian engaged us with some nice talk and we got to pick his brain about farm life and the sorts of travelers he meets. Before we had to leave he gave us some recommendations for sightseeing along our route to Chicago and loaded us up with delicious cherry tomatoes from his garden.
I can confidently say this was an incredible stay. I’ve traveled all over the world and am always in search of a standout experience, but I didn’t expect to find it in South Dakota. I will be coming back!

Great stop! The shower house was amazing. We made friends with the ranch cat and purchased some items from the camp store. If we had a critique it would be to add a light to the outside of the shower house. We pulled in later than anticipated and it was dark. We did manage to find the shower house but it wasn’t easy. Also there was a site number assigned but we found no markings so just chose an empty spot.

Brian was a wonderful host! Uncle B's Produce Farm is nicely set up - level sites, bathrooms with showers, free firewood and s'more supplies, plus, as an added bonus, fresh produce from Brian's large garden!
This Hipcamp is unique with it's own mini Mt. Rushmore, hippie-themed bus complete with music and a variety of birds wandering the property (guinea hens, peacocks).
We especially enjoyed our conversations around the campfire with Brian!

House Creek Resort is a perfect location for exploring the area. It’s 20 to 25 minutes to most places you might go to. It sits northwest of Custer park where the traffic patterns are lighter and quiet. I stayed in the upper camp area, site 6. It’s perched on the hill side overlooking the campground nestled in the trees. It had a nice picnic table and fire ring for a relaxing dinner and campfire. It’s really quiet! The bathrooms were clean and a stones throw away. The shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water for those who choose to use their facilities. The whole place is well maintained and clean.
