If you're into gambling, Prairie Winds Casino is just a 20 minute drive. 42 miles to the south is Fort Robinson State Park where you can visit the museum and explore the old army post. Guests dependent on WI-Fi for work will need their own system. Our rural infrastructure isn’t equivalent to big-city Wi-Fi. A WARM WELCOME, FROM THE OWNERS As the owners of Beaver Lake Campground for the past several seasons Julian and Kachina Starr are amazed at how fortunate they are to have purchased this very special campground. The Black Hills area is spectacular with so many things to do and see. You could spend a month here and still not see it all. The summer weather is perfect with warm but not hot days and cool summer nights due to the 5,300-foot elevation. Perfect for evening campfires. Living and working in the Black Hills National Forest is incredible. They feel very happy to be in such calm, peaceful surroundings. Julian and Kachina have accomplished many updates, and improvements in the time they have been here. Everything from not-so-exciting infrastructure, well pumps, electrical upgrades, painting, swimming pool pump, etc., and have attempted to give this beautiful campground a more inviting atmosphere, comfortable seating on the office patio, beautiful flowers, unique pinecone art, upgrades to the cabins, mini-fridges in all cabins, new mattresses, electrical improvements and more. The Starr’s 25-year experience in the RV business in Gold Beach, Oregon, and Durango Colorado has given them lots of warm memories and some funny stories too. Coyote Crossing is a beautiful valley just south of the Great Black Hills of South Dakota. If you want to experience the prairie, we have grassland, wooded areas, and even sand and sage spots, if that's what you're into! There's many acres of trees along Horsehead Creek to explore with many cottonwoods over 100 years old and hidden groves. Our RV rental and dry camp sites all come with access to our gathering area with the chickens and goats for live entertainment! Feeding the goats and gathering your own eggs is an option here! There is an outside bathroom, horseshoe pits, fire pit and covered seating in case the weather gets moody. Just 5 miles from the property are all the water activities you can imagine at the Angustora Reservoir and Recreation area with beaches, docks, and multiple eating establishments. 10 miles away is the beautiful town of Hot Springs where you can find bones at the Mammoth Site or take a dip in the healing waters of Moccasin Springs or the historic Evan's Plunge! Just beyond town is Wind Cave Nat'l Park where you can see buffalo and other wildlife. Mt Rushmore is only 30 miles further, along with the Crazy Horse Memorial! There's just too many sites to explore in our area to list! If you're into gambling, Prairie Winds Casino is just a 20 minute drive. 42 miles to the south is Fort Robinson State Park where you can visit the museum and explore the old army post. Chadron State Park is also there, along with Toadstool Park. We do harvest our alfalfa up to 3 times each season. So if you'd like to see how that is done, inquire on the timing!

We were on site 10 and it’s leveled. We stayed here on their last weekend of the season. Pine Haven is near Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore. It’s on the outside of town but near pretty much everything. If we cross this way again, we definitely would come back here.

Weekend Trip to Bear Den Cabins & Camp

Tammy's place was everything we wanted - its cozy, remote but in the heart of so much beauty. We got in at sunset and were able to take our dog on a night stroll up her hill for a very peaceful evening. The heat in our cabin was NICE and made it extra cozy. The bathroom / shower set up was top notch - sooo clean! 10/10 recommend this place! + Tammy is such a friendly, kind, good human!

Uncle B was awesome. He was so accommodating and definitely went the extra mile helping us get our RV hooked up in the rain after a long day on the road. He even put together a small gift for our newborn son which was so sweet. We came to stay en route home after our wedding and he made our stay so memorable. 100/10 would recommend staying here. We will be back!

Weekend Trip to Blue Tin Ranch

The location was right off the highway but once you get to your spot the road noise was very minimal. Host was very accommodating for a very last minute booking (less than 2 hours warning with a 9pm arrival). Host was out of town but very responsive to messages and helped how she could, we are pretty low maintenance though. It was very windy in this area but I think if you only had a tent you could find some way to break the wind easily. There were other guests on the property but no problems arose and everyone kept to themselves. Bathroom/shower access was a huge plus. Also super friendly kitty cats on property. The parking was ample, the fire pit was awesome and this met all of our needs for backpacker car camping 👍🏽 Affordable ✅ Safe ✅ Accommodating ✅

Brian was a fantastic host; friendly and helpful, although his co-hosts Frankie, Johnny, and Dibs really stole the show. (Frankie, Johnny, and Dibs are dogs.) The camp is well-maintained, far enough off main roads to feel quiet, and, for fellow solo travelers, I felt very safe there. I just used an RV site, but if you are looking for a fun “glamping” experience, the converted skoolie on property is absolutely adorable.

We loved staying at Bear Den! Tammy and Tim are the most welcoming hosts — we immediately felt like a part of their family! As our 5-year-old told us when they went back to their house after greeting us… “They’re so nice, I wish they didn’t have to go.” :) The cabin was cozy and perfect for our family of four. We were extra impressed by the cleanliness of the facilities, and amenities we didn’t expect. Our kids loved exploring the property, seeing the stars at night, and waking up to watch the deer right outside the cabin. The location was great, and pretty central for all the things we wanted to do. Our whole family hopes to visit again, and we will tell all our friends to make a trip to the Black Hills to stay with Tammy and Tim!

Had a wonderful overnight stay on the hippie bus. We were welcomed to the campground in the warmest way, equipped with hippie gear (peace necklaces & rose colored lenses) s'mores kit and campfire wood. The campground had very nice bathroom/shower and kitchen areas. Highly recommend Uncle B's for a relaxing camping experience.

We loved staying at Uncle B’s Hipcamp! We ended up being the only campers that night so we got VIP service, although I bet he treats everyone like a VIP - he’s that kind of guy. When we arrived we got a dozen farm fresh eggs and he made my daughter a bracelet making kit with her name on it! Our dog had a blast running off leash with his dogs, our daughter had so much fun exploring and getting to meet the baby kitties! My husband and I also had a great time getting to know Uncle B and getting a tour of the camp. We built a great bonfire (wood provided by Uncle B!) All around great experience, I wish we would’ve had time to stay longer!

We had a great stay at Uncle B’s spot. The host Brian and his pack of pups and other critters gave us a very warm welcome complete with s’more fixins and a bag of treats for our dog. He’s great. A real fun and kind character that is so welcoming and committed to you enjoying your time at the farm. There’s lots of fun stuff to look at on the property and the facilities are well stocked and clean. He even invited us into his garden to pick some veggies for the road. If you’re in the area and need a peaceful and unique spot to stay, this is it.
