The island is open to visitors from dawn to dusk to enjoy the trails and wild scenery. Camp reservations secure your overnight visit to stay at the designated campsite area, which has a fire ring for cooking, a picnic table, and room for a tent or hammock. Sycamore Island can only be reached by your own canoe, kayak, or rowboat; watercraft is not provided.

Acquired and protected by Allegheny Land Trust in 2008, Sycamore Island is a floodplain forest with a ranking of “high significance” within the Allegheny River Biological Diversity Area (BDA) Natural Heritage Area. Before the island was protected by ALT, the island had periodic interludes of recognition and appreciation by humans as a natural refuge. In 1936, both Sycamore Island and Nine Mile Island were leased from the Pennsylvania Railroad by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, making these islands the first bird sanctuaries in the Pittsburgh region. The Harbor Isle Boat Club was in existence on the island during the late 1960s but was later abandoned leaving behind several significant features; including a barge that remains embedded in the sand at the island’s southern tip, a partially installed swimming pool, docking platform, and a series of offshore pilings in the back channel.

Just renovated for winter camping! Completely sealed up and draft free. Still a very primitive site, but the interior now keeps in the warmth from the fireplace. A set of bunk beds and a4 seat table as well as some could makes it work for up to 6 people. Plenty of tent area around of you have a bigger group!
Sunnyday's farm and forest was a Christmas tree farm in the 1950's. I've owned it for the last 30 years and it is now a horse farm with pastures and woods.
Rustic area of 25 acres of pastures and forest bordering a hundred of acres of railroad and municipal forest. Great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. 1.5 miles from Deer Lakes park which has fishing, hiking, mountain biking, frisbee course and a great playground. The Allegheny river, judged to be one of the cleanest in the country, is just 6 miles away.
Harrison Hills park offers great hiking along the river and an occasional river otter.
The Rachel Carson Trail and Baker trail are just a few miles away.
It is a secluded log cabin in the woods on top of a hill overlooking a pasture. It is a very primitive cabin with a fireplace, brick floor, large porch, fabric interior and no chinking in the logs.
We provide a bunk bed and cots and 2 picnic tables..
There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin for tents.
There is no vehicle access, no electricity and no water at the cabin,
but LOTS of downed wood for fires. There are horses, goats, chickens, ducks and a pig that roam the pastures.
The cabin is about 300 yards from the parking area up a fairly steep hill, but the location is worth the walk!
If you're stopping with an RV or trailer we have ample parking near the road and have overnight accommodations for horses Great place for a stopover.

4. Alcohol: We would prefer you skip the drinks and just get high, but if your soul needs a drink please drink responsibly. (Don't be that guy)

We have 104 acres along the Allegheny river that we are willing to share with people who enjoy the outdoors. My husband and I, have been living here for twenty years and just enjoy the beauty this valley has to offer. We see bald eagles everyday, and every once in while some otters can be seen playing in the river.
Black Fox Island is visible downstream and provides a pool in the river that is a mile long. A person can easily paddle upstream; when the river is at normal summer levels.
Over 100 years ago, this was an industrial area with railroads, deep mines, strip mines, and gristmills. Some remnants of those times are still visible.
Paddling, biking, walking, fishing and swimming are some of the activities to do here, but doing nothing and watching the river go by seems to be the most popular.

Located just outside of Parker, PA and 25 minutes from I-80, our campsite is very accessible, yet still very remote.
With 4 campsites on 75 acres, guests have ample privacy and space, with the freedom to roam this posted property that has no homes on it. Perched high above the Allegheny there are several spots to take in the wonderful views. There is also a waterfall with a 3’ deep pool below it. Great for splashing with kids or dogs, guests love exploring the creek bottom and making new discoveries. The more curious guests sometimes find the ruins of the original homestead, chimney and spring house that sit upstream. The property is teeming with wildlife. Birds and tree frogs will be the soundtrack of your visit, and often deer will be seen nosing along the outskirts of your site in the mornings and evenings. Turkey, bald eagles and even bear are occasionally spotted, so be prepared to secure your food and trash at night.
For those coming to disconnect, you have found the right place. But if cell service is needed, you will have enough for texts at all 4 sites, calls at 3 of 4 sites and good internet at 2 of 4 sites.
For those who seek an electrical outlet AND an EV charger, the Travelers site is for you, and included in the price.
Within a 15 minute drive of your campsite you can find The North Country Trail, Rails to Trails Trailheads and Boat Launches on the Allegheny River, Groceries, dining and beer.

I had the pleasure of an extended stay at Jeff's camp so I am taking the opportunity to write another review!
Jeff is super kind, flexible and an awesome Hipcamp host. If you get to talking to him, he will share some incredible history and prior photos of the campsite area. He's put a lot of time and dedication into making this an amazing and relaxing retreat for folks. I was fascinated to learn some historical details!
The space is tranquil, private and has all of the basics anyone would need at camp. Not to mention there's plenty of room for a large group or for kids and/or pets to run and play (with staying cautious around the train tracks).
For anyone passing through on the bike trail it is not far at all and would make a great overnight stop. There are very nearby provisions in town (Smithton) at a little market.
For travelers there is an RV dump and hot showers (towels/washcloth provided) right up the road at Flying J truck stop. Walmart and groceries are about 10 minutes away in nearby Belle Vernon.
Some nearby attractions include Smithton Beach for swimming, Bloom brewery in West Newton (with some great pizza shops, Fox Pizza being my favorite), Vinoski winery, Round Hill animal park in nearby Elizabeth (good for kids), and if you're up for the trip, Kennywood amusement park or the city of Pittsburgh.

Richard is the best, most accommodating, communicative host. He went out of his way to get me what I needed. The site is as advertised, bring a good sleeping pad. I would go back in a heartbeat. He also has an RV if you need a mattress and on demand hot water. Definitely give Richard's site a stay!

The property is great! There weren't leaves on the trees yet when we stayed in early April, but it still felt private and secluded which is really important to us. We loved having a metal roof over one of the fire pits which came in handy during our first night there and we were hit with a downpour. We enjoyed hearing the donkey in the distance, too.
We spent the next day hiking at Allegheny National Forest (we really loved the Beaver Meadow Loop Trail) and our Australian shepherd loved it too.
The cabin itself was super clean and the perfect amount of space for what we needed. The only drawback was the 1 single twin sized bed at the ground level. There are multiple beds upstairs, but the staircase to go upstairs is not safe for dogs, and dogs are not allowed upstairs (understandably so!). Our Aussie likes to snuggle with us and would certainly attempt to climb up to us, so we slept in the twin bed the first night. The second night, we split up and 1 person slept upstairs and the other person slept downstairs. It was not a big deal, and we probably should have thought about the sleeping arrangements ahead of time.

Weekend Trip to DLR Mustang Ranch
I stayed in the cabin at DLR Mustang Ranch for a weekend, and it was exactly what I needed. I came to catch up on homework for my doctoral program and to have some quiet space to recover after the loss of my mother. It gave me such a peaceful, safe, and comfortable place to be alone, focus, and heal.
As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe the entire time, and that meant so much to me. I can’t say enough about Renee’s generosity and hospitality and the good things happening at DLR Mustang Ranch. I am so grateful for my stay and will absolutely be back.

My kids and I had so much fun!! Gerry was very nice and helpful!! We loved camping and horse riding!! My 6 year old got to ride a horse for the first time! Gerry explained all about the horses and my kids got to brush them and clean their hooves. Prada, Sky and Jackie are beautiful horses!! Pigonia the pig was adorable!! This was our second stay at Burnhead Grazings. This is our favorite place to overnight when bikepacking the Ghost Town and Hoodlebug Trails. Moire is a friendly and wonderful hostess who is always happy to see us. The farm is beautiful. Overall, it’s one of the most peaceful and scenic places to pitch a tent. I highly recommend it.

My girlfriend and I loved our stay here for our anniversary! The cabin was decently sized, pretty, very private, and had all the amenities.
On the few days we stayed, it snowed pretty heavily and dropped to temperatures well below what was expected, but the pipes never froze, the heating was great, and hot water in the shower still worked.
The cabin has lots of amenities including a nice stove, sink, fridge, and microwave. The host clearly stays there sometimes, as there was a lot of his stuff around. He provided dishes, silverware, and many toiletries among other things. The cabin has a nice firepit outside along with a pavilion that are a very nice place to share a campfire meal.
Overall, we loved the place! The host was very kind and gave us some tips on how to make sure the pipes didn't freeze. The only negatives were: 1. The cleanliness of the place: While it was clear that the place had been tidied and there were no super gross parts, the owner missed several things, such as a Hershey bar wrapper, that were on the floor. 2. The driveway was very steep and gravel. With 4WD, we were able to drive on it with some snow, but without 4WD there is no chance we would have made it. Kate was such an understanding host and I truly appreciate that she has this great space to share. This is such a lovely place to camp. The view is great, it's very secluded and there are a lot of nearby trails! We will definitely be back!

Jeffrey's spot is incredible. Secluded, spacious, and peaceful, right on the river. The covered patio area is also really nice with picnic tables. I'm staying here while spending some time with nearby family, in my hand-built "tiny cabin on wheels."
Being originally from this area, I can tell you this is absolutely a rare hidden gem you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere.
As a host, Jeffrey is extremely responsive, very chill and respectful, and has been very helpful.
My only heads up to other Hipcampers is that the train is right there, and travel into the site includes a very short stint across then next to the tracks. The train is loud - I'm used to it, I've been hearing that train most of my life - but if you're not used to trains it maybe a little loud at first.
But everything about the site is quite perfect, in my opinion. Even the train. :)
