You’re in luck—Portland is surrounded by Pacific Northwest wilderness. In less than an hour’s drive, you can be setting up your tent and reveling in the silence.

Your first stop is the awe-inspiring Columbia River Gorge, just 35 miles from downtown Portland. Stand in the mist of Multnomah Falls on Benson Bridge. Then, head to nearby Ainsworth State Park and Beacon Rock State Park in Washington to set up camp. From there, Oregon’s most beautiful hiking trails wind past waterfalls and over basalt monoliths.

A little farther afield, the Mt. Hood National Forest welcomes you with 71 campgrounds. Choose from primitive tent sites or RV parks with full hookups. Each site is just minutes from mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and fishing opportunities.

During the summer, the Tillamook State Forest is an excellent place to get away from it all. Six campgrounds including Elk Creek and Reehers Camp, offer walk-in tent sites and horse camping spots. You’ll also find plenty of free designated campsites, as well as OHV-friendly areas.

This is a hike-in only campground most suited to backpack style camping. The hike in has two short steep sections about 50 feet each. It takes 5-15 minutes depending on fitness level and load. This is a secluded, Park Like property with walking trails all the way around it, and some interesting things for kids to spot, especially up Fairy Lane. Walking access is permitted, but you must keep pets on leash and keep an eye on your kids. In the dry season, typically May through the end of September, fires are not allowed, and please USE EXTREME CAUTION IF YOU CHOOSE TO SMOKE ONSITE. If you are one of those who just tosses your butts in the underbrush, you will be asked to leave for the safety of our property and guests. There is no smoking allowed inside the cabin, bathroom, or anywhere near the sawmill, or any area North of it. There is a public bathroom in the middle of the property beside the tree fort. It's well lit and open 24 hours a day. The farm's name is inspired by spring feeds a small pond at the Northeast Corner (near the Alder Site) that has crawdads, Mallards and Blue Heron. Of course, there are also curious Raccoons and Possums about. A canyon running the north of the property in known for its wildlife population including bear, deer and elk. Wherever you camp, you may hear someone moving through the forest at night. Although we are a short 30-minutes to Portland, our private farm is free from unwanted lights and traffic (save the intermittent air traffic), when the skies are clear, starwatchers who bring their telescopes have many vantage points from which they can indulge their hobby! Our wide-open field is great for kite flying, frisbee, doggie frolics, and it's also a great place to practice your drone piloting skills. Mid-July through early October you have access to pick as many blackberries as you want and they are delicious. Cold Springs Farm is also a sanctuary. Our current residents include our Kunekune Pigs: Chris P Bacon, Wilbur, Piggit, Hamish McBiscuit and Rowdy. The resident goats include Dolly, Freddy McNubbins, Princess Daisy, Mikey, Mildred, Marvin, Daphne, Booger, Cyra-Nose, and Delilah our big, gentle goat. Rounding out the bunch are our farm dogs, Oscar Braveheart, Hoppin' Howie and Lulu-bear our rescue Pyrenees and resident sweetheart. We look forward to welcoming to our Columbia River Gorge farm and introducing you to what our beautiful area has to offer. We are just minutes from many of the gorge waterfall hikes including the historic Multnomah falls and Vista House sitting on Crown Point. Weekend Trip to Margaux | 1967 Airstream Bambi

We had a great experienceat at Kayla's land even when it's cold (20F outside). Super cute airstream with everything you need, cozy with a nice yard. Fireplace and hot tube are the big pluses! The host had been responsive for the entire trip. I'm very impressed by how comprehensive the digital guide is. Great getaway. Highly recommended!

Kayla was super kind and communicative! It's a cute, relatively private space (especially for a city spot.) Parking was easy to find near the driveway. The area has lots of great spots to explore within walking distance including a great Boba and game shop. The airstream was well decorated and equipped with essentials, but it was a bit smaller than I expected, often bumping my head and squeezing by. Also, I would not plan on using the shower. The hot water wasn't working (which Kayla was super great at communicating about and accommodating). But even if it were, I wouldn't have showered, because it would have gotten the toilet, sink and surrounding area super wet, and it was hard to keep dry as is. Still a great option for a cheap, private stay in the city. Would definitely consider booking again.

This place is exactly what we were looking for. Beautifully maintained grounds to give you just the right blend of nature and cozy accommodations. Trent and Robin were great and super helpful. This was definitely our 2 dogs favorite place to fancy camp… and will absolutely be back! Ps the wood fired hot tub was a dreeeeam!

Weekend Trip to Margaux | 1967 Airstream Bambi

We stayed for one overnight as a little getaway. We appreciated all the effort that has gone into getting guests oriented to the space (although a few things were a bit out of date - no need to turn the propane heaters on outside to get hot water now!) It’s a cute, quite compact airstream that felt a bit like staying in a vintage themed spaceship :)

My husband and I loved staying at Trent's cabin! We were looking for a quiet, romantic getaway where we could take long walks in the woods and relax in a comfortable cabin at night. The wood stove hot tub was amazing. Trent was a great host and was very attentive to our needs while also making sure we had all the privacy that we could want. I would stay here again anytime!

I highly recommend; I’ve stayed in multiple b&bs + camping locations in Portland, and this has by far been the best. This hipcamp is everything — it’s beyond cute, it’s in a good location, it has all the major amenities, and has the warmest host. We felt so safe here and so creative. The size was perfect for two people and one tiny dog, and it’s obvious that a great deal of care has been integrated into every detail of this airstream.

Weekend Trip to Whimsical Studio Loft

Roshin and her partner were very friendly and generous. It was a nice change from most other accommodation experiences where they are more commercial and transactional these days. We enjoyed her really cool studio, and had access to a dedicated bathroom and common kitchen in her main house. Our pup also had an incredible amount of fun in her beautiful backyard. Also, Samosa is just the sweetest!
