The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 8 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). A nice Hipcamp done exceptionally well. The Stargazer site is next to the owners driveway but don’t let that stop you. Their property is quiet and peaceful with well maintained walking trails and a great privy. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed talking with the owners and getting to visit with their cat. It was a perfect evening in a location with many parks in the area.

Weekend Trip to The Lake at the Flying J Farm

I've stayed at Flying J now 5+ times, and have stayed at sites 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The only one I wouldn't choose again is 3, as it's the site right in the open by the boat dock (as Richard clearly describes in the site profile). Site 1, 5, and 6 are all great sites in the woods. 1 and 5 have nice lake views, and 6 is up on a little bluff with farther views of the lake through the trees. Site 4 is the one you cannot drive to as it's across a small earthen dam. It's got more of an open view of the lake than sites 1, 5, and 6. Again, all the sites are great and Richard is an awesome host!

What a great place. So much to explore. I enjoyed it greatly. The cabin is cozy, and there are acres of privacy; the scenary is beautiful. There is plenty of space inside the cabin for people to walk around, get comfy, and eat a hearty meal. The upstairs has 2 beds that are at queen-sized. There are plenty of books and DVD movies, a wall-mounted TV, 2 big sofas (3 seat and 2 seat), a massive bean bag, and a dining table. The restroom includes a toilet, sink, bathtub shower, and a washer and dryer. The kitchen has a mini fridge with a freezer, dual sink, microwave, gas stove, coffee maker, toaster, and plenty of pots, pans, and dishware. There is plenty of heat to keep you warm in the wintertime. The place is very clean - vacuums included. Wi-fi and cell phone signals are not really accessable at the United Cabin but they are at the host's home property, which is a 3 min drive away. Nearby, there is a small pond, a cornfield, plenty of hills, and forests with trails. Thank you Michelle and PJ for sharing your Cabin with us.

We stayed at the A-frame this past weekend and absolutely loved it! The place was super clean and had literally everything we needed (we definitely overpacked 😅). There was plenty of firewood for us, which made hanging out by the fire so nice. PJ was awesome — super friendly, available if you need anything, and honestly willing to go the extra mile to make sure your stay is perfect. When we arrived, a few lights weren’t working, and he was super concerned it might ruin our stay. He even offered to come fix them right away, but it really wasn’t an issue for us at all. We also loved that we could bring our dogs! They had the best time running around off leash and exploring. Cell service isn’t great out there, but honestly, that was exactly what we needed — the perfect little disconnect. This was our first time using the Hipcamp app, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. We’d 100% come back again!

Weekend Trip to The Turkey Hollow Campground

Some of the reviews are overly critical of Matt's camping area. The campgrounds are easy to get to, with improved gravel roads. The road leading to his land is mostly paved, but only one way. The 4x4 camp sites are well marked. I had no issue getting my pop-up camper in and out from one of the close to the road spaces. Kermit's bottom did require 4x4 when climbing the gravel hill. He clearly states this many times in the listing. All of that being said, the campground is peaceful, serene, and very colorful during the fall. Firewood is provided for a small fee, as well as a fire ring and picnic table. Close to town as well - you can get whatever you need within 10 minutes. Currently there are outdoor showers and a porta potty. I will definitely come back, and I'm sure it will only be a better experience.

I'll tell you, the pictures are great but they don't do justice to the peace and comfort this place brings. When we arrived the camp host told us to ask for anything we needed, and they held true to that. The property has tons of places to hike. Everything around you is gorgeous. The beds are comfy, and the cabin is warm. There's no wifi or cellular signal, which was a benefit in my opinion.

It’s an awesome little camp ground! Nice swim/fishing pond, an outlet to charge a phone, outdoor showers with a propane water heater, firewood available and a porta potty. The property was really pretty! Walked the creek bed to see some cool rock formations, bunch of wildlife and had owls hooting to wake us up both mornings. 2nd time there now, I will visit again! I walked past the cabins while I was there also, definitely want to rent one of those, they look really nice.

We loved camping here on top of the ridge! The site was beautiful, private, and with the UTV service was easy to access and transport our gear. The host was very responsive and kind, and was an excellent host. He got us more firewood when we needed it and even offered us farm fresh eggs. The bike trails near by were also excellent and provided a very fun weekend.

We loved camping at Hilltop over Halloween weekend. We went hiking in Hocking Hills on Saturday and had trick or treaters and decorated and won the best decorated contest! Karen was very thoughtful and had breakfast on Saturday morning. The only thing that I would change is the site itself. Some weren’t level but we adjusted our camper to be level. Bath house was great and clean with showers. We loved the dog park all fenced in at the top.

We had a great time at Shady Maple cabin! It was a beautiful place to unwind, de-stress, and be in an amazing setting! The cabin had everything you would need for a relaxing time. We love a good log cabin and this did not disappoint! It was clean, had snacks, jacuzzi tub inside, a hot tub outside, board games, was private enough and everything worked as it should. Shout out to the hosts for sharing this beautiful property with us! Will definitely go back!
