With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy. While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night! Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Outhouse w/washing station. Fire pits at each site as well as a large communal fire pit and picnic tables. Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October. The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.

Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. We stayed during a snow fall, so we did not get the full river experience- but even in November the view is beautiful. The little cabin was just enough for my young family of 4 and our dog. Host made it super simple and had everything we would need and made sure to check on us via messages to make sure the heater was sufficient (which it definitely was).

Weekend Trip to Camp Karuga

We really enjoyed our stay at Camp Karuga! The property is beautiful, and the cabin and facilities were very clean. The lofted sleeping area was a bit close to the ceiling, making getting in and out a bit challenging, but there was room to spread out once up there, and the sound of the babbling stream outside was very peaceful. There’s also enough room on the main floor that you could sleep there if you prefer. The swing and firepit were great cozy touches that we enjoyed using. Kathy was very responsive to our texts, and CJ and Quint (the dogs) were welcoming and attentive! Overall a great stay!

Weekend Trip to Babbling Brook Campground

We had the absolute best stay at the little adjacent barn. Very special to have all the sweet animals all around us. The cottage has everything you need, including fresh eggs and coffee/tea. We had a fire in the fire pit with wood provided. Elizabeth has some awesome recommendations for things to do in the area, which we took her up on and thoroughly enjoyed. Good people, good time!!! Highly recommend this peaceful stay in nature.

What an amazing slice of paradise! Loved being nestled in the woods for 3 nights. We had everything we needed in the tiniest of homes on the most beautiful land. Weekend Trip to Camp Karuga

Kathy was extremely courteous. Bathrooms were very clean, especially considering this is an outdoors/camping venue. The hot water heater wasn't working in the shower house, but Kathy offered to let me shower in her guest room. Wish I had more time to stay, I would like to hike the trail, and possibly try the horseback ride. Hope to come back in couple months for a long weekend.

I love this cabin. This was my second visit and it was just as relaxing as the first. I enjoyed sitting on the porch, reading my book and listening to the sounds of the creek. It was a perfect spot to take a few days to relax and recharge. Highly recommend!!!

Elizabeth & Mark are wonderful host. The room feels like a cozy cabin & is stocked with everything you need. I enjoyed my farm fresh eggs each morning on the front porch while watching the animals go about their daily routine. If your into mountain biking, the trails of Kerr/Scott are only 15 minutes away.

We loved staying in the tiny house on Angela’s property. It was a very relaxing glamping experience. There’s a cute waterfall ~5 mins from the house and a creek right outside the front door. Bring bug spray! I loved walking down the road to visit Moonpie and Ziggy throughout the day. Don’t miss the Happy Valley Filling Station for beer and pizza.

Angela and Jesse have built such a beautiful home and sanctuary for some amazing animals, including the sweetest duo Moonpie and Ziggy. Their property is a paradise for dogs, with rolling hills, numerous trails, and a lovely river for splashing and swimming. The tiny house itself was better appointed than 80% of the hotels we’ve stayed in. Just pack food and clothes - they’ve got the rest covered! Make sure you leave time in the itinerary to check out their restaurant Happy Valley Filling Station, for some delicious wood fired pizza, extensive beer menu, and the friendliest community vibes. We can’t wait to be back!

Amazing place! Exceeded our expectations, they had anything you could need covered. Our dog loved playing with the host pups, there is an amazing water fall hike right outside the door, sauna was the best add on, just all around perfect. Plus great wifi, comfy beds, cozy wood stove, games book & puzzles so you can be as connected or disconnected as you like. We will definitely be back, 10/10!
