Easy communication with camp host. 😎 My husband fished the pond (when a kid wasn’t having time of his life cannon balling) and caught a 2 pound Bass. Site 5 is 4 wheel drive to get up to the area and its smaller but more private than other sites. Nice spot overall✨

4 nights at Outercamp, Blue Ridge Falls Retreat

I recently stayed at Geri’s Creekside Yurt, it was such a magical experience. The yurt was super private and secluded, with the creek just about 20 feet away. The walkway to the yurt was also really accessible, almost stroller-friendly, compared to other areas that had more steps. Inside, they provided both a fan and heating, making it comfortable no matter the weather. There were also plenty of board games, books, and other games for entertainment. They had so much thought into all of the essentials provided we almost felt we overpacked! The attention to detail was amazing. Everything was thoughtfully labeled, making it easy to find your way around. Even the outhouse, which I was initially worried about, turned out to be no issue at all. The interior design was also so warming and beautiful to enjoy, even the linens and towels were thoughtfully chosen. Overall, it’s clear that so much thought and care went into creating this peaceful space, highly recommend this beautiful retreat :)

3 nights at At the Ridge Camp-Riverside Escapes

The cabin was cozy and perfectly nestled right on the river—just steps from the water. Loved listening to the sound of the current, watching the campfire flames, and waking up to birdsong. Great spot for a relaxing weekend, unplugging (literally), and enjoying nature. The various hosts and helpers were friendly and ready to assist. It's not fancy, but exactly what is needed at a great value. When you normally tent camp, carcamp/boondock, hike/backpack, it's all an upgrade!! This was my 3rd visit and will definitely be back! Only couple things to note, that some might want to know beforehand: there are 1 or 2 'resident RVs' other than the campground host in the campground and some (hunting?) dogs across the river/road that bark occasionally.

Wow. Just wow. This is definitely a unique spot and the hosts just get it what a good camping experience looks like. The property is clearly loved and cared for. The views and nature are breathtaking, water in the river is clean, the nights are starry, and above all nobody is bothering anyone. We were hesitant to write this review because we loved the place so much and didn't want it to become crowded. However the hosts deserve the recognition for their efforts — this place is a hidden gem. People, please help preserving it.

Weekend Trip to TangleWood Creekside Campsites

We really enjoyed our stay at the Shady Creek location! While you can see the other properties from your spot (Creekside is a close neighbor to the right), the overall view and access to the creek was beautiful and peaceful and the visitors are respectful. I was thankful for the amenities: Blair provided access to a porta-potty, power station, fan, and Keurig machine. We also paid for firewood ahead of time and it was waiting for us when we arrived. You are also very close to Pisgah National Park and Lake James. My two complaints are 1) the padlocked entrance gate is a bit cumbersome. I appreciate that the space is being protected from unwanted visitors, but as a chronic worrier, I felt uneasy thinking about having to go through that process in an emergency. 2) you can hear cars passing on the road behind your tent. It’s not heavy traffic, but noticeable if you were looking for a quieter nature escape. Overall, I would rate it 4.7 stars and would definitely stay at one of the Tanglewood properties again.

Enjoyed our stay at site 0009. The site was level and facing the field that lead to the relaxing river. You can't see the river but can hear it from the site. The river is a slight walk across the field which the grass was a little high due to recent rain. We watched birds in late afternoon and June bugs fly above the grass in the early morning. There was a nice group fire pit. It was so peaceful except for the occasionally loud vehicle going up the hill on the road on the other side of the river (trees block the majority of the road.) I have already recommended to a friend and hope to come back one day. Two days wasn't enough time.

5 nights at Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Ranch

Catherine and Rick’s Mangalitsa farm is a beautiful place to stay with friends or family. We stayed on Rapids 3 which was absolutely beautiful on the river. Their directions to find the site were thorough and informative. Seeing the donkeys and piggies on the farm was great too! I picked up some fresh bratwurst, eggs and lard from the farm too to take home. They were so kind and made the stay a breeze. Sadly their farm was damaged in Helene but they have done a great job of restoring the land!

This was a great place to camp. The open meadow was perfect for us to spread out and have plenty of room to play. The kids loved swimming in the river and it was a perfect for a day trip over to Brevard.

You can cool off in the river or check out the surrounding Pisgah National Forest. Dogs on leashes are welcome and owner is responsible for cleaning up after pet. The farm provides a portable toilet but no other amenities. Campfires may be restricted, so check local regulations. This is a working farm, so please be respectful of the crops and workers and keep dogs on leashes. Fishing is NOT allowed on the river unless you have booked a trip with one of our guides. Please note, if it’s rainy the roads will be muddy and 4-wheel-drive vehicles are the best option. Head 4 miles east to the town of Mills River for restaurants, stores, and services. You can find hiking, biking, and horseback-riding trails within a short bike or car ride in Pisgah National Forest. Chimney Rock State Park is 25 miles east and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Or perhaps go for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Justus Apple Orchard is only 10 miles down the mountain towards Hendersonville. We love taking our kids there. We are only 15 miles from downtown Asheville & Hendersonville, and 22 miles from Lake Lure. The south side of the ridge has a small pond close to the road. The rest is pasture, and an orchard and small vineyard. The north side of the ridge is old growth timber, and shady and cool. The two cabins are along the river. One is perched on a ridge over looking the river and the other is right on the river. The swimming hole is 30 feet from the lower cabin. There is room for a couple campsites along the river also. The south side of the ridge was a cotton farm decades ago, but was covered in timber when I bought it 12 years ago. The north side has been in timber for the known history of the property.
