Enjoy the comforts of home at some sites—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Nestled at the base of Spivey mountain, only 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, we are surrounded by trees, water and mountain views. The sounds of the flowing creek, accompanied by bullfrogs and tree frogs around the pond, give the feeling of being far away from the bustle of the city, yet all the attractions of town are only few minutes drive. On site, we have a cooperative workshop, where artists come to work on their craft. From knife making and herbalism to vintage motorcycle mechanics, there is always something interesting going on! During the day, glimpse some of the locals in their native habitat :-) At night fall asleep to the serenade of cicadas, the moon peeking through the trees, and wake up to watch the mist rise off the mountain. The ground floor of the house welcomes campers to use the well stocked communal kitchen and bathroom. Wifi and other amenities available in the community area as well. We welcome you to come share in our working family's funky little slice of paradise in the ever evolving hip town of Asheville!

Peeper Palace

Unplug and unwind in this cozy camper, which has no electricity or running water, while peepers and bullfrogs sing you to sleep. This vintage 1975 slide in truck camper spent its entire life in Wyoming only traveling to rodeos twice a year, before coming to rest here. It is nestled in a private spot on the terrace under the black walnut trees, overlooking a spring fed Pond. Comforts of home are just a short walk away. Power, wifi, kitchen and bath available in basement of the house.

Fight Disaster Tourism!

I skipped my visit to Spivey Mountain Basecamp out of concern and respect for Jean and her Buncombe County neighbors, who are suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. I did not cancel my reservation, because I wanted that money, as little as it is, to go to Jean as a gesture of support. "Disaster tourism" is ugly and destructive. I would hope that no Hipcamper would ever do it.

My group had a great experience at Firefly Haven! Jean and Dawn are such gracious hosts and very kind people. They had great area recommendations and were very interesting folks to chat with! The camping was laid back, comfortable, and quiet. Can't recommend them enough for folks passing through Asheville. We hope to see them again soon!

I had a great time camping on Jean's property. They were very welcoming and easy to communicate with. The location of their property is also excellent as it's quite close to downtown which made it easy to do things in the city. There's also ample space to set up a tent or multiple tents by the creek. I would highly recommend Jean's property to the hipcamp community and would definitely stay there again.

Directions for arrival and entry were perfect. The location feels out of the way but is actually really close to downtown and entertainment areas. Unfortunately for us, we only stayed one night. Jean and Don are super nice and the property worked great for us. We were able to set up cour cartop tent and Uber into town. We really enjoyed chatting with Jean and Don and hope to make use of their spot for future trips.

Jean has a beautiful property full of eclectic abandoned treasures (namely vintage cars). The location is perfect—a true ten minutes downtown—but also feels rural and idyllic in terms of mountain scenery. Jean and her partner are friendly and welcoming! We’d go again:)

Magical spot near West Asheville!

Jean and Don’s land was the perfect place for a group camping trip close to downtown AVL. We came into town for our friends’ show in West AVL and the location couldn’t have been better (less than 10 minutes from all the happenings on Haywood). Don and Jean are generous and welcoming folks with great values and their spot made for the best basecamp for us. The ground is level for tent camping and the kitchen/bathroom surpassed our needs. We enjoyed a fire in the morning using wood salvaged from cleared brush. There’s a bunch of little corners on their property to explore and we adored the gift bag! I’m looking forward to coming back.
