Weekend Trip to Crockett Landing

We loved our stay at Crockett Landing! What a magical place and memories for our family. We loved campsite 5, it felt like a private island with plenty of room for our 8-person tent. We enjoyed walking the trails on the property, climbing up to the tree fort to stargaze at night, and campfires with s’mores. Paul was a gracious host and has created such a special place which respects the land, but provides nice amenities for a relaxed camping adventure.

The Spruill Conservation Farm is a beautiful place along the Albemarle Sound with campsites close to the water. Campsite #1 had a huge fire pit with group seating, a picnic table and very clean portable toilet. Steps away from the site were several marked, well-maintained trails that skirted along the cypress swamp and adjacent farmland. I really loved this place and would definitely stay over again. I loved reading about the Spruill Conservation Farm history and mission on their website.

We had an amazing time. The sun rose right over the water, it was beautiful. Trash was closeby and gas station down the road. Stars were beautiful too - would highly recommend.

Fantastic spot for a weekend (or longer) getaway, or a stop-in while paddling the Roanoke River. The on-site portajohn was immaculate. The firepit and picnic table/benches at site one were quite handy as well. The on-site nature trails made for excellent wildlife viewing opportunities as well. Julia (host) was very kind and welcoming. I absolutely will book this site again in the future!

Incredibly beautiful and secluded campsites, and yet very easy to get to and even unload at the site. The sunset and stars there were amazing. Went to the site on a breezy day and a lot of wind blew in from the sound, but nothing I couldn’t manage. Julia was wonderful and very communicative about the campsites, and answered any questions I had. Had a lot of fun being here, and I can’t stress how beautiful the campsite was, how well set up the sites were and how clean the place was as well! Photos don’t do justice how cool this place was.

3 nights at Crockett Landing

Paul is incredibly hospitable! When we got there, we were the only people booked, so Paul let us have any campsite we wanted. He very kindly chopped some wood for us on the night we got there. We stayed at campsite #4, which included a great raise platform to tent on, which Paul built himself. Paul really has been building a fanstastic spot. The outdoor bathrooms and kitchen station were super appreciated. He had a bunch of free to use equipment, such as fishing poles and kayaks. Over all, fantastic stay. Beaufort is a great hidden spot of NC, I highly recommend this stay!

My husband and I had an amazing time car camping! This was our first time camping on the water and it was such a blast. Highly recommend renting the kayaks, especially for a lovely sunset view. The trails were also a nice addition and were very well maintained. Thanks so much, Julia!

Absolutely an amazing fine so peaceful and beautiful. The wood deck was well kept up and the path was well marked and easy to find the site. Only problem was the path wasn't really cleared up but we had a really bad storm like two nights ago so it was OK. Paul was such a wonderful camp host and super friendly and let us explore the camp ground in the morning which was absolutely amazing!!!!!

Spruill Conservation Farm has amazing views with beautiful open fields and gorgeous skies. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature. The host is super friendly and makes you feel right at home. They go out of their way to make sure you have a great time. Definitely a place worth visiting.

We loved camping at Spruill Farm! The directions were clear to get to the campsite and the host was easy to reach. The fire pit was large and well kept with plenty of seating. Plenty of space to park and pitch a tent. The sound was beautiful, we loved falling asleep to the sound of waves

3 nights at Spruill Conservation Farm

We stayed at site 1. I had my Toyota Tundra and a Rustic Trail Polar Bear teardrop. My buddy was in his Dodge Sprinter campervan and we had plenty of room. All 3 sites looked amazing. The views are beautiful. The hiking trails definitely added to the site. We walked them daily and even did a night hike. Rode our e-bikes to the local marina(Mackeys Landing Restaurant)several times to eat. We also did some paddling. We will definitely be back.

Escape near Cape Lookout

Secluded campsite with 4 RV spots, 3 electric and water, 1 water only (quiet generator allowed here) and 1 tent only site. All spots are waterfront, located on Core Sound. There is a dock to tie up your watercrafts, such as kayaks and paddle boards. Boats are welcome to park in our overflow parking area and a public boat ramp is 0.25 miles away. Take the Davis ferry to the beautiful beaches of Cape Lookout just a few minutes away! 3 sites with 30-amp power (sites 1, 2 and 3) we welcome generators at the other sites, so long as they are quiet. All with water hookups except tent site 5. One can also pitch your tent close to the water (site 5). Enjoy swimming in the sound, fishing, wind surfing, paddle boarding, kayaks and your canoes!!!! Enjoy it all and only share the space with 4 other sites. No waste dump on site, but one nearby, information available upon request. They charge $25. 20 minutes from shops and restaurants of Beaufort and Morehead city. There is also a ferry to Ocracoke Island from Cedar Island, a peaceful 20-minute drive away. Really great access to a quiet and beautiful part of the outer (inner) banks. Everything you’d ever want to do at the beach is within 30 minutes and the sunrise on the sound is gorgeous. Be prepared for mosquitoes, especially at dusk. Recommend spray or a bug light. Carteret County is now spraying our site for mosquitoes! With Cape Lookout National seashore and Fort Macon State Park under 20 minutes from us, you also have tons of outer-bank activities to choose from.

Spruill Conservation Farm

The Spruill Farm belonged to the Spruill Family for over a hundred years and has just been set up as conservation easement protected land. It includes hardwood forest, swamp, a beautiful swimming beach* on the Albemarle Sound - one of the largest freshwater sounds in the world-, acres of farmland, vegetable garden and perhaps the largest fig orchard for hundreds of miles around. The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks. Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations. Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us. *Note: the shoreline changes with the wave action and the seasons. Bathhouses for guests and well water throughout property. Fishing, hiking, boating, kayaking, etc on the property. Atlantic Beach and Morehead City only 20 minutes away. Close to several stores and gas stations as well as countless fishing spots and about 7 miles to the end of Hawkers Island Rd where you can catch the ferry to Cape Lookout. Crockett Landing is a haven and sanctuary for wildlife and those who want to connect with nature and have a good time. There is a tote at the Cafe Blue full of games like badminton, volleyball, frisbees, wiffle ball, corn hole, paddle ball etc. The Cafe is an outdoor kitchen for guests to use as they like. Propane grill and stove available including dishware and pots and pans.

With only a 10 minute drive to historic downtown New Bern and a 30-40 minute drive to the beach, you can experience the best of both worlds. Many people tell us, and we know it true ourselves, there is something truly healing about our property. Come find out! Our personal home is located on the property, but we give our campers space and privacy during their visit. A few notes: -Our campsite is located on a peninsula surrounded by the river, because of the nature of the property, we do not allow children under 10 to visit. -Firewood is not provided but can be purchased at KOA just down the highway. -Fishing licenses are required for those wishing to fish -On your ride down our dirt road you will pass mobile homes about a 1/4 of a mile from us. These are our friendly neighbors that keep to themselves and do not interact with our property. If you are not comfortable driving past that, this might not be the campsite for you. This is very common in rural North Carolina. -Our campsite is for 5 people and 2 tents max. If you have more than 5 people coming please request to add additional people to your reservation. -Our bathroom has a sink, toilet and electricity. There is no shower available. -This is eastern NC, and there are plenty of wildlife and bugs. -Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times. -The campsite is located on the peninsula of our property but if you are more comfortable camping away from the riverfront you are able to move over to the pond as well (there is also a fire pit there).

Gator Creek

Located near Alligator River on the Little Alligator Creek. Fishing all around, just a short walk thru the woods or down the road. There is no clear path cut to the creek. I try to keep as much outside interference away from the property as possible. Public boat ramp in walking distance. Game lands are nearby with hunting for deer, bear etc. in season of course. No hunting allowed at Gator Creek. Not much light pollution so great for sky watchers. Lots of wild plants. Fiddle Head Ferns, Hearts A Busting, Wild Blueberries, Elderberry and more. A porta john located at my personal cabin but guest are welcome to use it or even pitch your tent in my cabin yard. City water available. We are adding a cooking shack for your use and hope to have it ready in a couple weeks. We do ask that you dispose of your trash appropriately because of the wild animals at Gator Creek. I am not on the site when campers are there. I want each camper to have the use of the property by themselves, that is the reason for only one camper at the time. I will add, I cannot guarantee how many Dragon Flys, birds, squirrels, bears etc. you will see, if any. You are camping in the wild in wetlands surrounded by state hunting preserves. If you want the outdoor life and like the wild Gator Creek is the place for you. PS: I am open to allowing car campers and or small camper vans.
