Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail). Each of these is under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette. The property itself is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. There just happens to be a full hook up campsite located at the edge of the property that someone should be enjoying. The property owner (my dad, who is in his mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives in a log home that is across the field on the adjacent property. He is probably going to stop by to say hi. I loved camping on Cheryl’s farm! I was able to get fire wood from her and she had it ready for when I arrived. There was a picnic table and fire pit available in one spot but we were welcome to camp anywhere in the designated field. Great spot, excellent for star-gazing. Loved hearing the babbling brook behind the site and enjoyed the excellent well-maintained campfire spot and the trees were hardy and well-spaced for hammocks. Waking up to the roosters was super nostalgic and a great surprise to score some eggs too. Felt very private and safe; the porta potty was extremely clean and a nice touch with the light for nighttime. Would recommend making sure you have all your groceries/water/etc before you arrive to save you a trip into town-we stuck around the campsite, but seems like a perfect jumping off point for Hanging Rock state park.

We arrived on Friday and were delighted to see the open fields, rolling hills and colorful canopy of fall trees. The fire ring, picnic table, and garbage were all conveniently located by the campsite. Setting up was easy and most of the land is flat, but not level. My dogs LOVED swimming in the pond and the hot outdoor shower was a plus for clean-up. Phillip and his wife were delightful hosts and Luna is a sweet pup. We will definitely return!

Weekend Trip to The Rocky Knoll

If this spot is available, stop reading and go book now! My partner and I camped here in October with our two dogs and had a great stay! Lois and Mike have thought of everything. The site is easy to find in the dark and the road is well maintained. The tent area is level and there is ample seating. They supplied tons of firewood as well as a grate/hot dog stick for cooking over the fire. We really appreciated they also left a shovel/water to ensure fires are fully put out. The site is really private and the views are awesome. The only downside was a bit of animal noise at night (dogs, owls, and maybe a donkey) - our reactive dog struggled a bit at first but way less than at other sites we've stayed. We didn't use the poop shed but peaked our heads in and it was immaculately clean. It's about 25 minutes to Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain State Parks. Buffalo Creek Farm nearby has great ice cream! Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Hidden Oasis At High Rock Lake

Quiet tucked away site in the woods. Tight road for larger vehicles (we have a camper van) but doable. Everything was dry when we went so no issues with mud, etc. The site was slopey but not a problem to set up once we found the right area.

Plenty of room to make ourselves at home.

Huge, beautiful, flat, shaded area with a creek for summer cooling. The host are extremely helpful and kind. I will stay again if I'm in the area.

This place is great!! Set up very thoughtfully. Tons of firewood available and the directions were easy. Having a landmark next to the site was great for after dusk driving in. The views are the best part of the site. We did both state parks which were close, and even stopped at a taphouse and an ice cream shop on the Main Street. As mentioned in the host notes and other reviews, there are a few bugs (harmless spiders and ants) and we got a late night visitor while in the tent, likely a larger deer or buck. Just ensure your belongings/snacks are safe. Nearby properties had dogs but I slept through after all the hiking! I would highly recommend this site.

What a beautiful property! Is a working farm, cows, chicken,pigs. They have a a little store You can Buy Homemade jelly and ice cream. We camped along the Creek, very quiet. The bath house has warm shower and very clean.

Weekend Trip to The Oasis at Harmon Creek Farms

We enjoyed camping and catching up. We had a wonderful time visiting and just having peaceful time together as family before holidays hit. We are currently working to book our spring trip in march.
