Located on the grounds of the Duckpond Pottery, The Quack Shack is a secluded treehouse perched along the banks of the French Broad River. The structure is an 8x10 A-frame that transforms via a hinged wall into an open-air cabana with a charming deck that affords spectacular views of the French Broad River and surrounding countryside. The interior of the Quack Shack, with its vaulted 11-foot ceiling and earthen plaster walls, provides a warm glow in a rainforest environment. It is furnished with a comfortable seating area surrounding a coffee table that can be easily converted to a full-size queen bed at night. On the outside deck are beach chairs and a chimenea available for use. The quack shack has electric power (1 outlet only). Amenities include a bathroom located a short walk away at the main building as well as an open-air on-demand shower located off the bathroom on a deck overlooking the French Broad River. Morning coffee and tea is available at The Tea Hut located just a hop, skip, and jump from the treehouse. A new two person wood fired hot tub and cold plunge is now located just off the steps of the treehouse. (Contact us if you’d like to reserve it during your stay). NOTE: The Duckpond Pottery is a working studio pottery and gallery that is open to the public. It is also home to occasional open-air house concerts on the deck at the pottery. Enjoy the super comfy bed and unique lifting side door to let the outdoors in :) or Site 2: Camping with room for up to 8 guests. There are multiple sites and so much room to spread out for groups up to 8 people. This year I am only opening tent camping for one group at a time so you can experience the mountains in the most peaceful setting. The upper camping area has plenty of flat areas for vans, cars, trucks and tents, and if you don't mind carrying our tent down the hill, the lower creekside camping area is THE PERFECT stargazing spot. There's plenty of room to set up any size tent down there, too. basically, You have the campground to make yourself totally at home. Site 3: Simple Car Camping Spot - Just want a spot to pull over camp for the night close toDuPont State Forest? We can make that happen. No tents allowed here, but it's a peaceful alternative to a cracker barrel parking lot. ----- Once you set up camp feel free to visit the Coffee Shed - It's a small shed on the property by the house that has everything you need to make a great cup of coffee. Coffee is always free. :) I have fire pits, tables an, if I am home, I have a super cute corgi that roams around the property throughout the day. If you spot me outside feel free to say hi or ask any questions about the area. I love helping guests find new places to explore. You will be about 8 minutes to DuPont State Forest (my favorite hiking and biking area) which has miles and miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The entrance to Pisgah National Forest is about 15 minutes away as well so it's a convenient drive to visit the forest and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I also own a company that guides "coffee hikes" to local waterfalls in DuPont State forest. You can find more about that in the photo descriptions. :) Please note!! My road up to my driveway is steep and bumpy. It’s only 0.3 miles up but bumpy. You don't need four wheel drive but higher ground clearance is recommended. (I have had small cars make it up but it is a bit intimidating if you are not used to driving in the mountains). if you have a small car just go slow. :) ------- Larger group? Want an indoor bath and shower?? If you are planning a larger group camping retreat and want to book the entire campground (including the main house with indoor shower, restrooms, and full kitchen and spare bedroom) I can make that happen for $500 a night. It's honestly the perfect spot for private, group camping and glamping up to 15 people. Just send me your date request and I will share a link to book if your dates are available. Please use the map to stay on property. Green Haven is centrally located 20 minutes between Brevard and Hendersonville. DuPont State Forest is 25 minutes away and it includes hiking, mountain biking, and waterfalls. Boaters will find the French Broad River, Horseshoe Bend, river access less than 10 minutes. More mountain biking at Ride Kanuga and Ride Rock Creek downhill mountain bike park 15 minutes away. The 7 mile paved Ecusta Trail from Horseshoe to Hendersonville is open, several miles away. Nearby breweries include Mills River Brewery and Bold Rock Cidery 15 minutes away.

You will be about 8 minutes to DuPont State Forest (my favorite hiking and biking area) which has miles and miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The entrance to Pisgah National Forest is about 15 minutes away as well so it's a convenient drive to visit the forest and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I also own a company that guides "coffee hikes" to local waterfalls in DuPont State forest. You can find more about that in the photo descriptions. :) Please note!! My road up to my driveway is steep and bumpy. It’s only 0.3 miles up but bumpy. You don't need four wheel drive but higher ground clearance is recommended. (I have had small cars make it up but it is a bit intimidating if you are not used to driving in the mountains). if you have a small car just go slow. :) ------- Larger group? Want an indoor bath and shower?? If you are planning a larger group camping retreat and want to book the entire campground (including the main house with indoor shower, restrooms, and full kitchen and spare bedroom) I can make that happen for $500 a night. Please use the map to stay on property. Green Haven is centrally located 20 minutes between Brevard and Hendersonville. DuPont State Forest is 25 minutes away and it includes hiking, mountain biking, and waterfalls. Boaters will find the French Broad River, Horseshoe Bend, river access less than 10 minutes. More mountain biking at Ride Kanuga and Ride Rock Creek downhill mountain bike park 15 minutes away. The 7 mile paved Ecusta Trail from Horseshoe to Hendersonville is open, several miles away. Please drive slowly on driveway and grounds. Drones are only allowed on our property and only in daylight hours and must be discussed with us prior. Our farm is Organic and we minimize the amount of chemicals used on it out of respect to the land. The creek has clean water, although we provide well water for the humans. Situated 20 minutes from Asheville and 2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, we are close to civilization and far from the everyday hustle and bustle. This is a great place to unwind in nature. We will soon be adding Forest Bathing. The frogs eat most of the mosquitos and the fireflies will provide the nightly entertainment from May till August.

Site 4 is pretty secluded, which was great for bringing the pups, and Hayden was friendly and very attentive to anything that came up. The two outhouses are clean and well maintained. We truly cannot say enough good things about these hosts or this property! They welcomed me and my little family with more kindness than we’ve ever experienced traveling or even near home. I’ve been through a lot emotionally and physically, and we came hoping to heal they made us feel safe, cared for, and supported. From leaving an apple for my son when he qhickly needed some fiber, to helping with groceries and packages, to lending us a propane fire pit and giving my little one a tiny shovel, their kindness never stopped. We honestly felt like God placed us on their property for a reason. We are forever grateful. The property is immaculate with beautiful views. Even with a nearby road, it was incredibly quiet- early mornings and nights were almost ethereal, like being deep in the country. The pavilion was wonderful, and river access just steps away was perfect for skipping rocks and listening to the peaceful water. We also loved the community garden and the kind neighbors. Star gazing during the solar storm was completely amazing because of the extremely low light pollution from any cities. SHOOTING STARS GALORE! Ceaser's head was only minutes away and so was Cup & Saucer coffee shop that had amazing pumpkin spice lattes and an allergy friendly quiche! This stay was full of warmth and peace. These hosts truly feel like family to us, and because of them, we now want to move to the area. We will never forget our time here and highly, highly recommend staying with them. ❤️

We loved tent camping on Ashley's land! He was very hospitable and kind. We loved hearing about all the animals and things he was doing with his time. We were right by the creek, so at night it was very soothing. Our children loved playing and throwing the ball with Ashley's dogs. It was our first time camping, so we didn't know what to expect but it was one of the best experiences yet and there was even a shower! We can't wait to go back! Thanks for the great time guys!

Chanterelle was an excellent site. Flat land on an otherwise very hilly terrain. A picnic table was provided; a fire pit was already in place. Free firewood was available, as well. Very welcome bonus. The latrine was beautifully built and exceptionally clean. It even had a stick broom to make sure there were no spider friends visiting you while you did your business. ☺️ The area was incredibly private. The only thing we heard were dogs a long way off. If someone would have been camping at Fern, the closest site to Chanterelle, we would have heard each other periodically, I'm sure. We hiked the roads of the property which was plenty of exercise for us due to the steepness and the length. We travel by minivan, so getting to the property was a bit intimidating because we don't have 4WD, but our minivan handled it. We would not have been able to traverse to highest campsite, but their instructions clearly say the one at the top of the mountain is for four-wheel vehicles only. The instructions for everything about this experience were very clear. Every time I had a question, the reply was prompt and courteous. I cannot say enough good things about our experience here.

If you are interested in hiking to beautiful waterfalls, fishing in native trout streams, bird watching or star gazing, this is the place for you! And if you need supplies from town, Cashiers is the closest and is about 25 minutes away and Highlands is about a 45 minute drive. Both have great restaurants and shops to check out. Our gated, gravel driveway is steep and a half mile long. You will need an all-wheel or 4 Wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway without spinning. There is ample space to turn around to park, but due to the nature of our driveway we limit the length of RV's to no more than 20 feet. THE NEIGHBORHOOD The campground is located in the "Emma" area of Asheville. Also known as "Wild Wild West Asheville" (to distinguish it from regular West Asheville which is about 5 minutes' drive away), this is the last bastion of non-gentrified Asheville. Emma is completely un-zoned, so you get an interesting mixture of mostly residential and agricultural properties that scatter the area. The campground itself is tucked away in a 2-acre wooded valley. We're about 10-15 minutes' drive away from downtown Asheville and a $12-$15 Uber ride. Unfortunately, public transportation is not very accessible from the campground. WHAT'S NEARBY? - There are approximately a bajillion breweries in Asheville, many of which are within 5-15 minutes away. - Downtown Asheville (~10-15 minutes), West Asheville (~5-10 minutes) and the River Arts District (~5 minutes) are full of city life fun - amazing restaurants, live music, shopping, art galleries and did we mention breweries? -So much hiking! Choose your own adventure - waterfalls, mountain-top views, fog-drenched valleys, rambling rivers. There are some trails about 20 minutes away, but to get to the good stuff, you'll drive 40-90+ minutes. - White water rafting ~60-90 minutes away - Tubing down the French Broad River is the ultimate way to chill out in the sun. French Broad Outfitters, Zen Tubing and Lazy Otter are some companies that can take care of all the details for you. These are all 10-20 minutes away. OUR HISTORY We discovered this property in 2017, and quite by chance! We had finished working a seasonal job in Colorado and were on our way out to the coast to look into starting our own business. We happened to come through Asheville and casually stumbled across this property. Long-story-short, we put in a bid on the property. It was accepted, and now we have a real fixer-upper on our hands! Here's some history on the property as reported by the previous owners: The road you park on was the old county road, a long, long time ago. The couple who sold us the property is elderly, and the blue house you pass on the left on the way to park was where the wife grew up. In fact, that enormous pine tree on your right as you come up the road was the old lady's Christmas tree as a child. The jiu-jitsu gym used to be an auction house. Then it was used as a dance hall. Then it became a cabinet-making space and finally a timber frame-making space. Over the past year we've converted it into a jiu-jitsu gym, although you can still see plenty of "upcycled" remnants of previous uses, all around the gym. The campground area itself was slated to be turned into a trailer park. You can tell that the area was partially graded at one point or another. Thanks to that initiative, we have some convenient paths all around! They decided not to follow through on setting up trailer pads since it was more money than they had bargained for. After that, the space was used as a black-market dump! Luckily the city shut it down, and after two spring seasons of cleaning up back there, we're left with what you see! We're going to continue to pour our hearts, souls, creativity and probably more than just a little money into making "The Baying Hound Campground" a fun place to crash for a couple days while taking in all that is Asheville. My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014. Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. We are just 8 miles from the heart of Asheville, 9 miles from Black Mountain, and 3 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our property is home to some of the most rare and beautiful wildflowers in the region, wildlife of all kinds, and a pottery studio. We are pet friendly, but we do ask that your furry friend stay on a leash/run for their safety. We have bears, snakes, coyotes, bees, the occasional stray piece of barbed wire from the cattle farmers who owned this land a century ago. We have mud, and we have flowers. It’s wild up here, and it’s also really beautiful. This is a working organic farm and studio space, so there will often be sounds of productivity during daytime hours. The site's (there's only one!) first appeal is the amazing view of Bull Mountain Ridge. Beautiful all year long, but particularly in late October when the leaves are in their richest colors. It feels private and tucked away, but is very accessible to all of what the Asheville area has to offer. Downtown is a 15 minute drive; ride services and shuttles are both easy to secure and quite affordable. Beautiful location with a view of Table Rock located in the Historic Oolenoy Valley. Our property is located in Northern Pickens Co. of South Carolina. Plenty of trails, boating, biking in the area or just sit under your awning and enjoy the wildlife. Important please read! There is not evening shade in July and August, However, there are shady spots very close to the camp site that you can enjoy. Where your camper sits the Sun goes down at the front of the camper. It is typically not an issue until mid-July and August. If you need additional details, please contact me. There are two homes near the camp site. The one behind the site is our home. Just me and my wife, currently no pets. The other home is a small white farmhouse that I currently rent to close friends. Chris and his wife and two well behaved kids. The kind of neighbors' people dream of! In five years of renting this site I have only had one couple that felt uncomfortable with the homes on our driveway. My family desperately needed a COVID safe getaway so we decided to retreat to the woods. Cherryfield Luxury Group Camping exceeded our expectations. The shelters and grounds were prestine and the covered platforms were definately the way to go car camping. Our tents stayed neat and the covered shelter kept us dry and cozy as we watched the rain on our second night without a fly on our tent.This campsite has thought of everything. There are grills an firepits beside each platform (each platform is large enough for 3 four person tents) and there are two common shelters with electricity and GORGEOUS bathrooms. It is funny to say, but the bathrooms were nicer than many hotels we've stayed at... large tiled shower with digital temperature controls, excellent water pressure from the large rain shower head, and, as a bonus, surround shower heads for that extra special something. I have never been excited by a shower or bathroom at a campground, but I made sure to shower before leaving because the experience was so zen. There is ample lawn space to play games, set up additional tents, and spread out for privacy, even during larger group gatherings. There are grills and grill tops by each fire pit making campfire or grill cooking easy, but delicious local restaurants just 10 minutes away also offer catering style menus that makie car camping and group gatherings even easier (the local BBQ and Italian were terrific). The grounds are meticulously kept and there are sturdy bear boxes to protect food and trash to help keep unwanted visitors from troubling guests. While we enjoyed some activities away from Cherryfied, we could have easily spent the entire weekend at the campsite. Not only are the grounds spectacular, but there is an easy walking trail to a lovely moss covered waterfall just steps away from the campgroud. The sound of the waterfall can be heard from the campground. It added ambient atmosphere and lulled us to sleep each night. The hosts were terrific and offered many suggestions for take out meals and activities. My only criticism is that the weekend went by too quickly. I did not realize how much my family needed an escape of this sort until we got the Cherryfield. I recomment Cherryfield without reservation. Take good care of this special place. We cannot wait to return.
