The cabin is located in a remote area of Bear Swamp State Forest. It is about 5 miles from the nearest paved road but has seasonal roads that take you to the cabin. There are many close attractions like Skaneateles Lake and Carpenters Falls. The Cabin doesn’t have electricity or water but we do have a generator available. We do not have a shower or bathroom but we have an outhouse. We do ask people to bring their own gas if you want to run the generator and woods to make a fire. I highly recommend 4x4 vehicles but I been there in a civic and a mini van.

About the Property: Our unique property boasts quiet camping on a beautifully manicured MotoTrials Riding and Obstacle Play Course. 2025 marked our first year offering camping to the public, and we look forward to HipCampers joining us in our unique venue. All 4 camping sites are nestled into the Obstacle course. Trials riders and non-Trials Riders alike will find much to enjoy here. Campers unfamiliar with Trial are welcome to take advantage of a Lesson on one of our Rental Bikes, while the Obstacle Course is also super-fun on foot (for walks or runs), mountain bike, trials bicycle, or for playing with your RC toy! We have night lighting to turn on at your request, even if just to sit in the evening and enjoy the lights reflecting off the pond-We surely do! We are located on NY 38 but our traffic is not obnoxious (Log and Milk Trucks, Farm Tractors and Commuters). It is very peaceful here. Your camping can be as private, quiet and leisurely as you wish. The views and big sky are gorgeous in our corner of farm country. Our small pond (tho not suitable for fishing or swimming) provides entertainment w/ turtle sunbathing raft and lots of nature's visitors. Pets always welcome off-leash with your guidance. About the Trials Riding: Sundays are a practice day or Event day. We host 4 Mototrial Events each season (see below) and if spectating appeals, you can plan your trip to coincide. You're in for a treat if you've never seen these nimble motorcycles do their 'thing'... up, over, and around the obstacles. Events are busy and exciting, but no worries (!) trials bikes are not loud. Riders are friendly and considerate. If spectating not your thing- no worries. Non-event/non-practice days are quite laidback. If Trials riders come here for additional practice (or instruction) it's not loud or invasive, nor interferes with any camper training or play on the course. When riders are here (barring Events or Sunday Practice ), it's typically only 2-4 at once. Multiple activities co-exist nicely, as there is plenty of room for all. There are many days no one is on the course at all (!) and you may have it all to yourself or possibly with another camper. Hope to see you in our slice of heaven! We live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. We have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. We share our experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by July 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to four people to participate at one price. Also, my wife makes soaps, potions and lotions under the Dragonfly Gypsy logo. These normally, only available at shows or Etsy, are now available in limited quantities here at the homestead at a guest only reduced price. She uses mostly natural oils, tallow and ingredients sourced from the local Swartzentrubber Amish Comunity that surrounds us. It is known to be one of the most conservative Old Order Amish Communities in the country. Many are consider our very close friends. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the off gissues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a short time. That is still our main purpose. A wonderful rustic, private, off-grid get-away, perfect for couples, families, and pups who enjoy camping (log cabin with wood furniture available, you may pitch your tent anywhere on the property - leave no trace).
You may see some wildlife throughout the property (including a milk snake that lives in the cabin wall, but is harmless).
It is a quiet, rural, farming area. Once at the cabin there are only two to three houses within a half mile (through the woods), so you will have a private space all your own.
Winter camping is special - cozy wood heated cabin, hundreds of acres for snow shoeing, cross country skiing, or snowmobiling. Plan ahead, we do not plow the driveway in winter; plan to shovel an off-road parking space, and transport your gear up to the cabin (1100'). Wood is provided.

When you book, you are confirming your understanding of the following: there is no electricity, running water, or std. bed/mattresses. You bring own air mattress, bedding, and gear you will need. All-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.
We welcome special events, family reunions, or weddings, if your plans do not require utilities (you may bring a generator or other battery operated items, as needed).
Note for winter guests:
We do not plow the driveway in winter, you need to be ready to shovel an off-road parking spot, and transport gear to cabin (e.g. by sled, snowshoes)
Here's a brief list of the basics to bring: Light source: Lantern propane or battery. Air mattress or cot and whatever bedding you need. Paper products (cups, plates, utensils, toilet paper, etc.) Matches/fire starter (there is wood on-site, and a propane grill for cooking that has a self-starter). Bug spray. Cooler and ice. Lawn chairs.
There are a few tables, several chairs and benches. There are 2 picnic tables (one outside and one inside). The benches can be moved outside if you'd like, just move them back inside before you leave. The propane grill should only be used outside.
There is a hand axe in the cabin to shave kindling, and the wood is already split to be the length for the wood stove, as needed.
Gas: 5 miles away. If you plan to grocery shop when you get to the area, the closest store is at East Hill Plaza in Ithaca, about 9 miles past where the cabin is (I can give you all that info if you like). There is lots to explore/see/do in the Ithaca area if you decide to come down off the hill one of the days. I'll have some brochures and things in the cabin, and can answer questions (aka where is the best ice cream, dinner, etc.).

Weekend Trip to Coyote Hollow Park
There are SO many things we loved about our stay. The scenic drive, the hospitality and conversations with Christine, and all of the hard-work they have put into this land. The tent was toasty during the day (but the oscillating fan helped) and cooled right off into the evening. The camp store and complimentary breakfast were so convenient and kind.
We will be returning to try one of the other sites soon!!

My wife and I had a great stay at Underhill Forest and Farm. The property was beautiful and a perfect place to relax after exploring the area. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well cared for, and we loved being surrounded by nature.
It felt like a true getaway while still being close to all the hiking, wineries, and restaurants we wanted to visit. We'd definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing spot near Ithaca.

Do not hesitate to book this location! This is a very nice piece of property with a long, mowed trail which is terrific to play fetch with your pup! Very private! The outside setup with different types of chairs was fabulous & accommodating! They thought of everything (outdoor dog lead, water bowls, grill, firepit, firewood/kindling, etc.). The inside of the camper was clean and worked as it should. The hosts were so kind and responsive! As other reviewers have said, you only need to pack your food, they have thought of everything else, including a pour-over coffee maker, plenty of dishware, silverware, cooking utensils, etc. The fridge and freezer are quite spacious and worked perfectly! There is a bathroom in the camper but they also have the cleanest outhouse I have ever seen! They are also planning to work on the pond to make it bigger and have added some steps for easy access. We are looking forward to returning!

My husband and I were looking for someplace quiet and private to relax and unwind. Karl lives on the property behind the cabin and welcomed us with a burning fire. Even with Karl on the property directly behind us, the cabin faced out into the forest and felt very private. We saw Karl one time when he stopped to ask if we needed anything. We came prepare to camp in a rustic cabin and were pleasantly surprised when we walked in to find we really didn’t need much. There was a camp stove and all of the cook wear and utensils, along with dishes, cups and silverware. Karl and is wife have really put thought into every detail. It didn’t bother us a bit when the nights were cold and the first night rained hard. We found a heater and Yahtzee game inside to keep us warm and content. I really can’t think of one way they could improve. Karl was very friendly. We didn’t get the pleasure of meeting his wife but maybe next time because we definitely plan to visit again. 1 night at Tryals Park Camp & Obstacle Course
Love this place so much that I come to visit even when I don't have a full 24 hours to spend! Perfect place for an evening campfire, a night in my hammock in the hayloft listening to the chorus of spring peepers in the pond and endless cups of coffee as the sun rises. Throw in the best hosts that you could ask for and you've got the PERFECT home-away-from-home overnight destination!

Weekend Trip to Smyrna Lake Campsite
The property was beautiful and met all of our needs. Perfect getaway for some me time with my partner. The lake view was stunning even with some ice frozen over. Plan to return in the future. Roberto was also super attentive and quick in responding, when something was needed.

Weekend Trip to Tryals Park Camp & Obstacle Course
Once I heard that our first warm day of spring was coming up, I knew I had to spend it at the little barn. As usual, Laurel and Mike were amazing during the booking process and were so welcoming. I stayed toasty warm in my hammock and got to watch a lightning storm over the hills through the open hayloft door, which was a highlight of all my years camping. Can't wait to come back!

We loved the Yurt on Labrador Mountain. If your looking for a camping experience with the comfort of a hotel room, this is the place for you. It is so beautiful in the fall. Jan and Ken are great hosts and their attention to detail is unmatched. The tub is deep. Its the perfect place to visit. Cannot recommend it enough.

Weekend Trip to Christmas Tree Farm Hidden Delight
We had an amazing last-minute stay at Mary’s place. Our pups loved having the freedom to roam off leash, and it was so nice to relax by the tent and take in the fall scenery. The woodstove kept us cozy all night, and Mary was very kind and responsive throughout our stay. We’ll definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Round Top Retreat
I spent the weekend at Round Top Retreat alone to unplug, relax, and recharge and it was exactly what I needed. The wood burning stoves did an excellent job at heating the cabin. It got below 40° at night but it was probably 60° inside with the fire going. The stove is also great for cooking. It was a little rainy during my trip so I did all my cooking indoors.
The driveway continues uphill past the cabin and turns into a hiking trail. I think it's supposed to connect to the Robinsons Hollow State Forest Trail but I couldn't find it (the official trial head is just down the road). It was still an invigorating 2 mile walk. I spotted lots of birds and a couple deer.
