RV camping near Taos guide

Overview

Hemmed in by the rugged peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the sweeping gorges of the Rio Grande, Taos makes a worthy inclusion on any RV road trip. Swing into town to admire the old adobe buildings, dive into New Mexico's rich Native American heritage, and browse the art galleries before exploring the region’s many hiking and mountain biking trails. RV parks close to downtown fill up quickly in July and August, but there are also RV campgrounds dotted throughout the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. To the south, the Orilla Verde Recreation Area is ideally situated for whitewater rafting and rock climbing along the Rio Grande Gorge, while the mountain campsites in Carson National Forest are best to escape the crowds. RV camping is possible year-round but prepare for heavy rains in spring and snow in winter. Bonus: Taos is the gateway to some of New Mexico’s most popular ski resorts.
