Weekend Trip to Tumbleweed Base Camp

Tent camping at Tumbleweed was simple, peaceful, and exactly what I needed. I loved being surrounded by green grass that felt like a soft meadow, wildflowers in bloom, and the surprise of cool mushrooms scattered throughout. The biodiversity of the ecosystem was beautiful to witness. I came for solo respite and retreat—and left feeling refreshed, grounded, and renewed.

Weekend Trip to Tumbleweed Base Camp

This was a quaint place very well placed to give seclusion yet close enough for any need. I will be excited to see how they continue to grow as I will definitely return. I will say having a communal grill would be a great upgrade.

Weekend Trip to Whippletree Farm & Nature Trail

This was the perfect place to stay for the night. Such a cute little cabin and had everything I needed. Went for a walk in the nature trails after dinner and was so serene and quiet. Wild definitely stay here again.

Loved our time at Paul and Piper's. Their hospitality is fantastic. Plenty of room for our dog to stretch her legs. Cabin is also close to the NCT for hiking which was our focus. Wish we would've had more time - would have loved to take a sunset cruise around the lake with Paul and Piper. We hope to be back!

3 nights at SOL VIND - Lakeside Camping Retreat

This was such a cute and cozy spot! The cabin itself was SO cozy and relaxing, and we truly appreciated the AC on the 92-degree day! The hosts were great, and being so close to the beach was amazing. We enjoyed watching the sunsets and having a bonfire on the beach itself. It truly felt like something out of a movie. The other sites are quite close, so if you're looking for isolation, this isn't it; however, there is still a good amount of privacy, and the neighbors at the sites were friendly. I would absolutely recommend this stay and hope to come back someday. Thank you. :)

3 nights at Whippletree Farm & Nature Trail

We had a wonderful time on the farm! The cabin was perfect for what we needed. Fans helped to circulate air in summer weather, the beds were comfortable with clean sheets, and the little prep surface and mini fridge made things easy. Very family friendly. We'd recommend repellent and keeping an eye out for ticks as you would in other natural areas. The goats and chickens were a delight for kids and the composting toilet set-up worked well. Thanks to Peter and the family for welcoming us!

The blue cabin was adorable and cozy. The perfect spot to camp if you don’t have a RV or tent. The host is great and makes the experience easy.

We loved this cabin! It was perfect for a family with kids. The weather wasn’t the greatest while we were there, but the beach space was so beautiful and calm. Plenty of space and privacy for a weekend at the beach. The shower and bathroom were very convenient. As well as the coffee machine, fridge, and microwave. Very well put together and homey. We’ll be going back 🧡

Weekend Trip to Paul’s Lakeside Cottage

This place was perfect for my son and me. Close to fishing, Itasca State Park and some great small towns. Quiet, clean and comfortable.

2 nights at Tumbleweed Base Camp

Staying here was such a delight! Everyone was so kind and welcoming, including JuJu the cat :) We had a wonderful time getting to know everyone and exploring the space. We stayed in the TeePee and it was very cozy. The lights were a great added feature! The barn had so much character and it was clear that lots of love was put into this campground as a whole. 100/10

We loved our Monday-Friday stay in the apartment! It was very clean, cozy and quiet with comfortable sleeping accommodations. The hosts were very friendly and checking in and out was a breeze. Our kids especially loved looking for frogs near the pond and jumping on the water trampoline! We also enjoyed smores (fixings kindly provided by the hosts) and fires at night on the deck. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

A wonderful place to unwind and connect with nature. I enjoyed looking through the reading material and listening to some of the vinyl records. My kids had a nice time petting all the sweet animals. The studio had plenty of space for the 4 of us. Keep in mind that many of the businesses in the small surrounding communities are not open midweek if that is of interest. Would stay here again!

I was in the blue cabin. It's private and wonderfully quiet. The walk to the bathroom wasn't a problem. I can recommend it.

We felt so welcome, and everything was super cozy and clean. The teepee is on a raised deck with comfortable flooring inside and a wonderful king-sized mattress furnished with sheets, blankets, and pillows. The teepee has electricity run to it as well! For more creature comforts, the barn is only a short walk away. If you’re bringing a lot of equipment, they will lend you a wheelbarrow to move supplies as it is a short walk over lightly hilly grass to the teepee from the parking area. Definitely pay attention to the instructions they provide about how to get to the site without taking a super long gravel road as Google Maps may direct you to do!

Goldie The Caboose

Goldie is an original early 1900's wooden caboose that ran on the DMIR railroad. She was re-designed in 1912 to be safer on the railroad (and her length extended so she wouldn't fall over). She ran the tracks of the Iron Range until retirement in 1968. It's been fully renovated with a few modern conveniences. We've re-used as much of the original wood as possible, and repurposed many things into other things so that we could keep the history alive. My husband is the carpenter that brought her to life and I'm the one that gave her some paint and design. Now, she's ready for people again, and to keep telling her story to others. Please...be our guest...and let Goldie be your host. Goldie has a max occupancy of 2 people due to space constraints. She also offers: ~ 1 very generous bundle of firewood included with stay ~ Hot and cold running water ~ A shower ~A/C and heat ~Hot water kettle for coffee, tea and cocoa (or oatmeal, etc) ~Paper dishes, plastic utensils and ceramic mugs ~Microwave ~Mini fridge ~One queen sized memory foam bed ~ Bath Towels, hand towel and wash towels ~Flush Toilet ~Fire ring, picnic table and lake access (kayaks available to use for free) ~Wifi access ** There is no cable TV, but we have a DVD player and some movies to choose from. Also there are some games to play. We do have pets and they do run around the yard freely. There are two dogs that love to romp and say hi (a female Golden Retriever and a female Griffon mix) and a female cat that does the same. They are super friendly, but they will come to visit you at the lake. Our lake is an "environmental lake" so while we keep a small beach area that you are welcome to use, it is not free of lily pads or weeds. It's simple, but fully swimm-able (the Golden Retriever keeps the first 8 feet of water weed free with her swimming!). You are welcome to use the dock and chairs we keep there for breezy evenings or to take a dip to cool off. We are only 2ish miles from town with gas, food, ice cream and a donut shop. There is a paved rail trail just down our street that runs both directions for many miles. Bikes are welcome! (please leave ATVs at home).
