The Hamlet Lake Bunkhouse is located to the west of our home in its own secluded parcel next to the lake. The Camp on Hamlet Hill is to the north of our home, on a remote flat hill at the top of our property, on a hill over Cedar brook. with 300-acre, (private) Hamlet Lake in front, and the wide portion of the 20-mile Cedar brook in the back. We are a large "homesteading" family, with chickens, ducks, and a garden. The campsite is a private 1/2 acre clearing, surrounded by woods with a firepit, grill, cooking utensils, and an outhouse. (Tents are available for a small additional cost). There is an outdoor water pump below the hill. Guests can access the waterfront and beach in front, with the use of the swim raft, lily pad, fishing dock, canoe, kayak, and paddle boards included. At nearly 100 feet deep, Hamlet lake also boasts excellent fishing. Our home is located 6 miles from Crosby, with the world-class Cuyuna Lakes 50-mile mountain bike trail system. Green Island is an unexpected pine forest located actually inside a small town in northcentral Minnesota. The camping area is incredibly private and surrounds a small pond. It is primitive with minimal amenities beyond an outhouse and hand pump for water. Accessibility is only for tenting or truly tiny camper vehicles. The campground is a huge semi-shaded space for up to 20 tents, still, we prefer 1 or 2 at a time. However, larger group retreats are possible. We are serious environmentalists and we offer this opportunity just for true nature lovers as singles or couples, who totally take care of themselves, leave absolutely no trace, and are solid environmental stewards. In other words, its no place for a party. Separate from the campground there are: apple orchards, outdoor sculptures, wildlife, a meditation kuti, and perfect spaces for forest therapy. Yet almost unbelieveably, you can walk to a Pizza Hut or Walmart in 5 minutes. This is an excellent staging point for outdoors people en route to Itasca State Park, The Lost Fourty, and the state and national forests of the north.

How we ended up in Knife Lake Township on 81 acres of forested land. We began looking for land in late fall of 1996. After several months of searching, we happened upon a tiny newspaper ad for 81 acres of land described as "Beautiful, secluded, mature hardwoods, tall pines w/creek & beaver pond, many gd bldg sites & great hunting". We toured the property, covered in almost two feet of snow, on a snowmobile in January 1997 and fell in love with it. We have been stewards of this piece of land for 25 years and are still enamored of its beauty and diversity. We are lulled to sleep by the sounds of owls and bullfrogs and the distant yipping of coyotes. Spring through fall we are often awakened by the rattling, honking of sandhill cranes and a wide variety of bird songs. Besides deer and lots of small critters, we've seen bear, bobcat, rafters of turkeys, quail, grouse, pheasant, owls, hawks and eagles. The sky, on a clear night, is breathtaking. It truly is a special place. The cabin, lake, sunrises, the loons and swans and the stars! the wind through the pines and the quiet, I loved it all. The cabin all by itself is extraordinary but add all the rest to it and it was simply magical. I can’t wait to return.

Weekend Trip to Clear Lake Getaway

My wife and I had an amazing experience, and the joy began even before we actually “arrived” at Kelley’s farm. The road to the farm gave us front row seats to a forest of beautiful, luminous orange fall leaves on our left and the deep blue lake on our right. We had to stop the car a few times along the way just to look around and snap some photos. After a LOT of photos, we made it to Kelley’s farm—which, by the way, has a VERY cool shop at the entrance—and then our campsite! The location was as beautiful as the drive in and elevated by the range of thoughtful amenities Kelley had staged beforehand and also by a visit from their friendly dog! I could write more, but you get it! 10/10 recommend!

We had the loveliest time here. Beautiful, quiet spot looking out over the lake. Bunks are simple but comfy. Hosts are incredibly kind and welcoming. We really enjoyed the goats :) Big thanks to Eric and family for sharing your space with us!

This was our second trip and it was just as great as the first! My husband hates camping but he loves this cabin! Perfect blend of rustic outdoors with comfortable, modern amenities. Our 3 kids love it too! It's very peaceful and private. Highly recommend for families or anyone looking to rent a nice cabin!

2 nights at East Lake Ranch

It's quiet at this location, and it feels remote -- even though you don't have to rough it to get there. We come here with a 35' 5th wheel; not a problem. Great view of an almost private lake, and great access. Jake and Amy are super friendly, but they never get in your hair. Love the farm animals. Fun to call them by their names and get close to them. We've been here before and will probably return.

I noticed their website said they were already closed for the season but HipCamp still let me book it. I was half-expecting a call back and a refund but instead, they were more than welcoming of my stay and even sort of apologetic that some of the amenities were no longer available this late in the year. On top of that, I got held up in traffic and didn’t arrive until almost 8:30pm which they did not seem the least bit bothered by. One day, as I was returning from the trails with my dog, they offered her treats and an adorable Sunset Pines scarf! I was only in town for a wedding but will definitely make the trip again in the future, maybe even get myself a seasonal RV lot someday!

3 nights at Hay Lake Basecamp Canvas Tent

This was a fabulous spot for a long weekend trip! The tent was super cozy and clean, and it included a nice air mattress with bedding, a mini fridge, and a coffee maker insider (there is electricity, which was super convenient when needed). The site itself had great amenities like a picnic table, canoe/kayaks/paddleboards to use off of the private dock, and hammocks that were already set up for use. Really lovely touches like solar lights lining the path from the parking area to the campsite/the path to the bathroom and a bin with wood for the firepit. There was some occasional noise in the early mornings from people unloading their boats at the public lake access nearby (a couple hundred feet away from the tent with woods in between, you can see the cars from the campsite through the trees), but not too bad. There was also hunting fairly close by one of the mornings we were there if that's something that you or any dogs you might camp with are bothered by and you're visiting during hunting season. Overall this was a super nice campsite, we would absolutely return and recommend it!

We had a great time disconnecting from the busy city life. The cabin was so cozy and it was amazing to be able to take a hot shower after a long chilly fall day. We will definitely be back with friends. There was so many places for people to sleep.

Always looking for secluded camps near water where our 2 dogs can run and this place checks all the boxes!! Oak site is tucked into the trees and leaves you feeling like you are living on the frontier. (Note-best for camper vans/teardrop trailers. Larger trailers have to back down hill and then doors are facing away from lake). Meadow site best for larger rigs, not shaded but has better breezes and lake views. Great stargazing site, Milky Way was visible during our visit. Highly recommend a stay-several days at least just to unwind. ATT-2 bars if you can’t live without your phone
