Our property is 85 very private acres with an open field surrounded by forest and open wooded area with many trails. The forest is very diverse including some old growth maples and birches, as well as hemlock and pine trees. The campsites are at the edge of the field set back into the woods. I have recently added sand and gravel to improve drainage since the heavy rain we have had last year. We have a portable composting toilet outhouse and a hot outdoor shower. Feel free to explore all of the trails on foot or mountain bike. You may see some turkeys or deer out there. There is a small pond with lots of frogs and salamanders near the camping area, and a few seasonal streams on the property. You can hike a one mile loop on our newest trail. It is medium difficulty because of the hillside it is built on so hiking boots are recommended unless you are on a mountain bike. Rock walls built in the mid 1800s circle the property almost entirely so the borders are easy to see.
The Deerfield river is a few miles away where you can fish for trout or go for a swim or kayak. The Connecticut river and the green river are about 15 minutes away as well. We have tubes, a canoe, and a kayak that are available to rent for some floating! Historic Deerfield village and Yankee Candle store and factory are about 10 minutes away. We are about 20 minutes from Northampton and Amherst.

Come and enjoy a quiet retreat, or use Fernwood as a base for many outdoor activities-biking, fishing, hiking-all nearby. Natchaug Forest offers great trout fishing. Goodwin State Forest is less than 3 miles away by car where you can put in a canoe on Pine Lake, amble through the wildflower and pollinator gardens, or enjoy the Education Center and Museum. From Goodwin, you can access the Air Line State Park Bike/Hiking Path.

Directions to the property were clear. The site was clean, flat, private, and peaceful. Although we didn’t use the firepit, everything was there. The outdoor shower had perfect temperature and pressure. Willis was friendly, met us upon arrival, and made sure we had everything we needed.

Absolutely gorgeous and remote location! Dark enough to see the stars, quiet enough to count every cricket, frog, & owl lulling you to sleep. Didn't see or hear a single car or person the entire time we were there. There's also a beautiful nature reserve up the road that opens up deeper into the woods!
Alan's a very kind and thorough host, providing firewood, porto-potty, and water to wash up with. The property is very well-maintained, with moss & soil soft enough to walk bare-foot.

I only stayed briefly overnight so I didn't have a chance to explore much of the area or amenities. The farm was clean and safe and a pleasant spot to stop for the night. It didn't feel very private, but I expected that from the listing and it was quiet so no complaints. Kelli was friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with by chat. Thanks again!

We had a wonderful stay on Alan’s land. The camp was well kept, with freshly laid wood chips. Alan’s stocked and wood and water was a big plus. The porta potty was immaculate. But most of all it was so quiet and private. That is until Abner, a neighborhood mule out of nowhere let out a crazy, unexpected bray which was actually pretty awesome; never heard anything like it.

Our family had a wonderful time setting up a “village” (3 tents) on this property. We made the trip from New York City specifically because Willis promised unlimited firewood and we sure took advantage! He was super kind and accommodating. If you’re looking for the feeling of deep- woods camping, this isn’t it; you definitely have the feeling of being on someone’s property, especially because you’re using their awesome hot outdoor shower. Stayed labor day weekend with our dog. Nice quiet spot - off the road but still secluded enough. Site was large and includes fire-pit, picnic bench, and portapotty(clean with tp). 2 crates of firewood for 2 nights was plenty enough. There’s 2 state parks within a few min drive, I enjoyed natchuag more than Goodwin (the trails were too overgrown during this time). Overall a good experience- thank you Alan for the stay!

Camping out on Kelli's land is a treasure for sure. The warm whispers of the sunrise over her house and field with the early morning nickers of the horses is just what my body needed. The weather was perfect, there was a slight breeze and my dog children loved playing with her small pack. I will return again and again if my schedule allows! This was our first Hipcamp experience and let me tell you, we couldn't have picked a better one. When we got to what looked like a dirt cattle trail, we stopped and asked a farmer if he knew Allen. "I do." And would you know where Fernwood 2 is? "I do. Drive another 50 feet and turn right." What a beautiful little spot. The cleanest, nicest smelling portable john I have ever seen. We plan to come south again next year and Fernwood 2 will be on our itinerary. Allen and his wife were gracious and very friendly.

It was peaceful, and felt very private. We traveled to see a show at Treehouse Brewery and enjoyed being so close! There are lots of hiking trails nearby, including a trail right on the property. The site was big enough for our tent and an additional EZ up.
