The Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary was generously bequeathed to the Kennebec Land Trust in November 2016 upon owner Kendra Wakefield Shaw’s passing. Its 108-acres feature historic cabins and 4000 feet of frontage on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. The property’s coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands are important habitat for many species of birds, mammals, and plants.
In 2018, the Maine Cabin Masters renovated two of the stream-side cabins, which now serve as rustic getaways for Hipcampers and the like.
A small dock and canoes are available for use on the wide and deep flatwater stream!

Among the hidden gems you might find are the original homestead foundation, a vernal brook, a distant field that is totally secluded and an oak tree with a heart! The small town of Union also hosts the Maine Wild Blueberry Festival. The Lobster Festival is nearby in Rockland every August.

We purchased this land a few years ago when our neighbors decided to sell. It abuts our property They used it as a place for their family to gather and camp on during Maine wonderful summer season. It is a beautiful, quiet spot with a great view and a small pond. Hipcamp lets us share this spot and helps pay our property taxes.We are located in the western mountains of Maine in a summer community on Porter Lake. There is a beautiful view of New Vineyard mountain from our 3 acre field. We have 2 trailer sites with power and water (non potable) and an out house. The field has several fire pits and soft grassy spaces for pitching tents. The camping area is fairly private from our neighbors along the road. The site has a small private pond surrounded by trees you can sit and relax near. You can (walk/bike/drive) the 1/4 mile down the dirt road to the public beach. The beach has a public dock, boat ramp, swim float, picnic tables and grills. Paddle out to the island and try the rope swing with one of our kayaks or canoes. Be sure to check out the bald eagles that live in the white pine tree just a little farther down the island. You will hear the loons during your stay and possibly see a mother with her babies on her back. There are also ducks and ducklings and geese with gosling paddling about the lake. The state stocks the lake with trout, splake, and salmon if you like to fish. There is plenty to do right here!

Fieldstone Farm is a 35-acre property in Warren, Maine. Our waterfront campsite is located on a wooded parcel nestled between a rolling farm field and a seasonal cottage. Amenities included in the nightly rental are a 16-foot diameter round Regatta Bell canvas tent set up on a raised wooden platform, with a queen-sized pull-out futon, two additional single-sized futon chairs, and an indoor dining table and stools. Outside, overlooking beautiful Crawford Pond (aka Crawford Lake) is an outdoor kitchen and lounging area with patio table and chairs, umbrella, as well as kitchenware (cookware, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, coffee press, etc.), a gas grill, and firepit. The campsite is just steps away from shared water access with a small beach and space to launch paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, or other similar kinds of watercraft. Friendly dogs are welcome at the campsite and on the beach; however, dogs should not be left unattended at the campsite or on the beach.
The lake covers nearly 600 acres, with an 11-mile perimeter, and is 3.5 miles in length. In the middle sits 100-Acre Island, a beautiful piece of land stewarded by the Georges River Land Trust and a great place to get out and stretch your legs if you are on a long paddle or to have a picnic. In general, this is a delightful setting for swimming, floating, fishing, and paddling among the loons and other wildlife that this water body is home to.
The campsite is a short drive to a number of terrific hiking trails that are part of the Georges Highland Path, a 70-mile network of trails, and the St. George River Canoe Trail. It’s also just 20 minutes to Camden Hills State Park and downtown Camden, and 18 minutes to Rockport or Rockland. There are many excellent restaurants and art galleries in these coastal towns, as well as opportunities to get out on the ocean and enjoy our coastal beaches or catch a ferry for a day trip out to explore one of the iconic islands offshore. The cabin does not have heat, electricity or running water. We provide numerous battery-charged lights and candles making this a is cozy, relaxing and perfect way to experience Maine farm life. An outhouse is nearby. We provide an outdoor hot-water shower.
Plan to visit our farm store where you can buy goat-milk soap, beeswax candles, organic wool pillows, sheep and goat skins and other creations made by Patti.
Loads of hiking trails are right out our door or wander down the gravel road.
Visiting the animals (sheep, chickens and, of course, Denali - the farm hound) is always a highlight for guests. Please leave your own dog at home, thank you.
Chris is a proud Mainer and natural tour guide. He will be happy to provide you with his favorite recommendations and hidden gems.

We purchased this land a few years ago when our neighbors decided to sell. It abuts our property They used it as a place for their family to gather and camp on during Maine wonderful summer season. It is a beautiful, quiet spot with a great view and a small pond. Hipcamp lets us share this spot and helps pay our property taxes.We are located in the western mountains of Maine in a summer community on Porter Lake. There is a beautiful view of New Vineyard mountain from our 3 acre field. We have 2 trailer sites with power and water (non potable) and an out house. The field has several fire pits and soft grassy spaces for pitching tents. The camping area is fairly private from our neighbors along the road. The site has a small private pond surrounded by trees you can sit and relax near. You can (walk/bike/drive) the 1/4 mile down the dirt road to the public beach. The beach has a public dock, boat ramp, swim float, picnic tables and grills. Paddle out to the island and try the rope swing with one of our kayaks or canoes. Be sure to check out the bald eagles that live in the white pine tree just a little farther down the island. You will hear the loons during your stay and possibly see a mother with her babies on her back. There are also ducks and ducklings and geese with gosling paddling about the lake. The state stocks the lake with trout, splake, and salmon if you like to fish. There is plenty to do right here!

Fieldstone Farm is a 35-acre property in Warren, Maine. Our waterfront campsite is located on a wooded parcel nestled between a rolling farm field and a seasonal cottage. Amenities included in the nightly rental are a 16-foot diameter round Regatta Bell canvas tent set up on a raised wooden platform, with a queen-sized pull-out futon, two additional single-sized futon chairs, and an indoor dining table and stools. Outside, overlooking beautiful Crawford Pond (aka Crawford Lake) is an outdoor kitchen and lounging area with patio table and chairs, umbrella, as well as kitchenware (cookware, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, coffee press, etc.), a gas grill, and firepit. Also onsite is a shed for storing food bins and trash, a solar composting toilet, and a solar sun shower stall.
The campsite is just steps away from shared water access with a small beach and space to launch paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, or other similar kinds of watercraft. Friendly dogs are welcome at the campsite and on the beach; however, dogs should not be left unattended at the campsite or on the beach.
The lake covers nearly 600 acres, with an 11-mile perimeter, and is 3.5 miles in length. In the middle sits 100-Acre Island, a beautiful piece of land stewarded by the Georges River Land Trust and a great place to get out and stretch your legs if you are on a long paddle or to have a picnic. In general, this is a delightful setting for swimming, floating, fishing, and paddling among the loons and other wildlife that this water body is home to.
The campsite is a short drive to a number of terrific hiking trails that are part of the Georges Highland Path, a 70-mile network of trails, and the St. George River Canoe Trail. It’s also just 20 minutes to Camden Hills State Park and downtown Camden, and 18 minutes to Rockport or Rockland. There are many excellent restaurants and art galleries in these coastal towns, as well as opportunities to get out on the ocean and enjoy our coastal beaches or catch a ferry for a day trip out to explore one of the iconic islands offshore. This is one of those rare finds that you don’t want to leave. Our campsite was on a grassy knoll overlooking the river/lake and surrounded by acres of lawn. We could watch the water from our bed. Just beautiful. My husband enjoyed a chat with the owner and got some of the history of the place. Our dog was in doggy heaven.

The land was stunning and provided awesome views of the stars at night; the stream made for great ambient sound, all around great area! Sean was super friendly and we even got to meet the goats! Sometimes I resist writing a good review because we all want to keep hidden gems hidden. I love this place. The location was easy to find, close to groceries and gas, and the host couldn’t be more welcoming, warm and gracious. We tented with a lake view which gave us access to the bathhouse. Not heated, but hot showers. The property is clean and well maintained, with beach and water access. Will be back again!

We spent an amazing couple nights tenting out right next to the Androscoggin River at John's 3rd camp site. Our hosts were wonderfully welcoming and accommodating — when we arrived we found our canoe that we rented was already waiting for us by the river's edge. Which is truly a must if you visit here as there is plenty to explore offshore. If the water doesn't entice you, there are also over 12 miles of trails a rock throw from the site that you are able to explore. Because of the kindness and helpfulness of our hosts, the undeniably beautiful views of the river (add on the fall foliage as a major perk), as well as the ability to explore an amazing area, is why we have full intensions of coming back again.

Robert's cabin at Tilden Pond is a wonderfully secluded get away spot with a beautiful woods walk (15mins) to the pond. We were happy about being able to park next to the cabin for easy unloading of gear. We liked making meals over a camp stove we brought and at the fire pit to calls of loons and owls. We brought our own tent but opted to stay in the cabin on the cots provided, which were comfortable with our sleeping pads and bags. Our dog loved having the woods to romp in unleashed. The sunset at the pond was a highlight. On a future trip we hope to take advantage of the double kayak. We saw others kayaking, sailing, and fishing off in the distance.
Robert has done a good job repairing the road recently but it is important to have a truck or vehicle with good clearance to drive in. We loved having both Belfast and Camden only minutes away.
