Forty five years ago, our family started assembling 400 acres of woods and fields on the banks of the beautiful Androscoggin River. We enjoy actively managing the property for wildlife habitat and tree growth. The diverse landscape includes over 1/2 a mile of river frontage, a 10 acre wildlife pond, rolling hills in the meadows and steep forested terrain with more than 10 miles of multi-use trails running throughout. Our lands have long been open to local hikers, bikers and cross country skiers, we are excited to share this beautiful property with a larger community. Scout for wildlife and birds, on our private 400 acres of forests and fields. Tire yourself by hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing the 10 miles of private trails.  Located across the river from Riverlands State Park, just minutes from Lewiston-Auburn, Bates College, local breweries and just 2 1/2 hours from Boston. Wildlife abounds both on the property and across the river at Androscoggin Riverlands State Park.Quite often, a gentle breeze off the water will offer relief from black flies and mosquitoes, but the right bug repellent is recommended especially to fend off those pesky ticks that are so common in Maine.

Highland cattle graze at the forest's edge on our Celtic-heritage farm: a gentle retreat with options for woodland wandering, farm-fresh breakfasts (weekdays only, must be requested one week in advance), and campfires complete with traditional Gaelic music! Our 40-acre farm includes heritage-breed animals, organic gardens, and over 30 acres of conservation woodlands. We favor scythes over tractors--your stay will be quiet and fume-free! Bradbury Mountain and several trail networks are nearby, along with rivers, ocean beaches, and an excellent locavore food scene. Since the early 1800s, this land on the edge of Chandler Brook has nourished bodies and spirits alike. Sloping pastures meet well-managed woodlands, making this a haven for both humans and wildlife. Since the 1980s, we have worked to restore the soil and make a "hand-built" life as farmers using pre-industrial organic methods. We maintain pollinator habitats, tend an orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle. Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. This land is already better than we found it, but we hope it will remain a gathering-ground of culture and agriculture, tradition and innovation for generations to come.

Megquier place as they used to call it. Built in 1775, Megquier farm was the first homestead in the town of New Gloucester. The house here is supposedly the oldest in New Gloucester. Situated on originally 60 now 30 acres of woodland, with trails of all sorts that weave through the property which is surrounded by mostly farmland and wooded terrain. The Megquier family who built the house had relations with local indigenous people trading cider from their orchard. They also were known to be rebellious towards English rule at the time and were involved in the local militia leading to the revolutionary war against English rule. Proof of which lies in some historic photos of family members dressed in militia uniform right in front of my house way back when. Furthermore, construction of the house itself violated the kings rule that no tree over two feet in diameter marked by the kings agents was to be harvested. However, the roof sheathing in the house are two feet wide at least. Interesting to review the history of mast landing in Freeport Maine, just a few miles away. More recent undocumented history of this property is just as interesting. I’m told that during the Vietnam war period, many people resided here in commune to resist the draft for that illegal war. They camped along what was once a pond here on a sunny hillside with towering Hemlock trees. Proof of which lies just under the ground such as old beer bottle and cans from that time as well as the rusted front end of an old International Harvester bus similar the one Ken Keasey and the merry pranksters drove around the US with. Pretty cool. I’m told that this place has a cool vibe to it, in the house and around the property. Hopefully I’m keeping that intact. After 7 years here I’ve created a network of trails for biking, skiing and exploring. I’ve carved out a nice high and dry hilltop camp with two 12’x12’ platforms and a composting outhouse. It’s situated on the most isolated area of the property. It’s quiet, private and gets great afternoon/evening light. Totally chill place to isolate. And mountain bike. There are approximately 7 kilometers of private bike trails to explore and more always being created. Very close to other local biking trial networks via some road sections or a quick shuttle to other trailheads. Also there’s a decent little sandy swimming hole a mile down the road. This camp is brand new this summer. I’m hoping to attract people who love mountain biking.Learn more about this land:Winter camping available. Private isolated campsite on 30 acres. Great bike trails. Wooded dry hilltop campsite with privacy and seclusion. I’ve constructed two 12’x12’ platforms at the top of the hill along with a custom built composting outhouse and huge stone fire pit. Bike down your choice of trails into my network right from the site. Park your vehicle in the field near the trailhead and hike in to the camp or bring your four wheel drive vehicle right to the site. Utility cart available. I will provide all the wood you need for a campfire. As well as a water source located at the field. Approximately 7 kilometers of trail and counting. Bring your dog so long as it is behaved. You’ll be able to bike directly from here all the way to Bradbury Mountain state park and back (about 3-4 hrs) or easily drive to multiple trail networks. Pineland Farms located 1 mile away. 15 minutes to Bradbury Mountain state park. 20 minutes to Freeport Maine and LL Bean. 30 minute drive to downtown Portland. 10 minute drive to the nearest store. You’ll be all by yourself out there but close enough to hear the road nearby. You may see people riding a bike down on the main trail but you’ll be all set on top of the camp hill. I’ve created this one awesome refined site. There’s a lot of room here and plenty of spots for primitive camping. Don’t hesitate to contact me with questions.

We have an 8X8 cabin available in a small grove on the edge of our homestead/medicinal herb farm. The cabin has a full size bed (bring your own pillows and bedding) with some floor space for a small cot or sleeping pad. The space allows for two adults and two small children, anymore than that would be very tight. The cabin is insulated so the road traffic isn’t bad but it is noticeable at certain hours when the window is open. There is a large parking area with about a 100 yard walk across a lawn and then another 100 yard walk through an uneven wooded trail to the cabin. We have two composting toilet outhouses available for guests use that we take care of on a daily basis.Inside of our large greenhouse, there is a hot water outdoor semi-private shower, only biodegradable soap that we provide can be used. There is also a kitchen and seating area in the greenhouse with a propane grill, toaster oven, microwave and electric kettle and small coffee maker/French press. The greenhouse is a communal space that our family uses as a wood shop and greenhouse space so while the kitchen and shower area are kept clean and clear for guests, the rest of the greenhouse is a working space that can be in various states depending on what projects we have going on. Dogs are allowed but they need to be leashed due to our free ranging ducks and the closeness of the road. We can occasionally provide eggs and some veggies and herbs for tea for a small fee if it’s arranged in advance. We provide a fire pit and kindling but ask that you bring your own fire wood that has been purchased in the area so as not to bring in any new pests. The parking area is large enough if you want to bring a boat or trailer. Our spot is 3 miles from downtown Freeport and is located near a commuter road so it’s easy access to many spots.Freeport is a coastal town with two state parks, lots of great diverse trails which are well maintained and lots of restaurants/breweries. A short walk down the street and you can jump on the Quarry woods trail https://freeportconservationtrust.org/quarry-woods. From there you can literally walk into town for the marshmallows and chocolate. Look forward to coming back to the site to light a campfire and enjoy the solitude. No matter the season, reconnect with nature and listen…the crows rule by day and the owls by night. It started years ago my sister and I stayed in a yurt at a campground in Oregon. That was it. I was hooked so I got one. There is something magical about staying in a round structure in the trees. My love of nature and comfort drove me to create this special place to be able to share it with others. My TreeYurt is a platform built high in the trees so it essentially like a treehouse but with a yurt instead. It is located in the back part of my property surrounded by woods. In the spring there is a small stream running nearby. The land is somewhat sloped yet comfortable. There are apple orchards nearby and many hiking trails a short distance away as well as Portland a mere 15 minutes. The kitchenette has a small fridge a toaster oven a coffee maker a cook top with two burners pots pans utensils plates and bowls and kitchen towels as well a propane grill outside. There is a wood stove for heating in the winter as well as a monitor heater that makes it very cozy for chilly nights. The yurt is insulated so it is a great year round glamping (glorified camping) adventure. I provide fire some wood for the wood stove inside but the camp fire wood for the outdoor fire pit is $5 per bundle. The outhouse has a dry flush toilet and instructions at located in the yurt and out house. There is seasonal running water (May through October) for the outdoor sink which is available for use for dishwashing and a bit of cleaning up. Also an outdoor shower is available for use May through October and biodegradable soaps and shampoo are provided. I provide gallons of drinking water and dishwashing water for the colder months inside the yurt with dish tubs sponges and soap.

Keep an eye out for bald eagles, deer, and wild turkey, common sights in this picturesque and very private location. Arrange a visit to meet the cows, sheep, and chickens at our nearby farm. We're thrilled to share our peaceful sanctuary for the fifth year, and our second year with HipCamp, and eagerly welcome your feedback to continue improving your experience. We're pet-friendly and accommodate a maximum of 5 guests, including children. Join us at Eweturn Farm and create lasting memories with your family amidst the beauty of nature.

We are a short drive from Portland, Brunswick and Bath which both have lots of parks and restaurants. Lisbon falls and new Glouster also have great trails and restaurants that are amazing yet less crowded than Portland. We are a short drive from family destinations like the desert of Maine in Freeport, Maine wildlife park in grey and the old orchard boardwalk.  We are about 40 min from popham beach to the north and 40 min to crescent beach, old orchard beach and Scarborough beach to the south. As hosts, we are around if you need us but happy to give as much space and privacy as you would like. If we are out working in the fields or hanging out with our kids, we are happy to give tours or talk about any of the gardens or plants that catch your interest.  This is a working farm so walking around must be at your own risk, there are bees and ticks and some tripping hazards to be mindful of.We have rented this cabin through Air b-n-b for several years. Welcome to the “Who Cooks for You?” campsite, an ode to our owl friends, who you'll likely hear at night. We’re less than a half mile from the ocean and about a mile from downtown Freeport so you can access the outlets or one of Freeports many festivities. Feeling snacky or need firewood? Bow Street Market is right around the corner. Fancy a coastal view? You can head over to Winslow or Wolfe’s Neck parks, both offering ocean access and seriously swoon-worthy vistas just minutes away. Winslow also has a boat launch for those wanting to kayak. Nestled just below an old granite quarry turned 35-acre nature preserve, this spot is for those who want a mix of forest magic, coastal breezes, and all the woodland creatures. Park your car and walk into the mossy wonderland of Maine woods, where you’ll pitch your tent on a bed of wood chips or moss beneath a thick canopy of trees. This hidden gem offers both adventure and relaxation. For the nature lovers, there are multiple hikes and trails nearby. The most convenient is the one behind your campsite. We can’t really see or hear the site well from the house but you might hear us from time to time. Our goal is to give you privacy.
