Outside, overlooking beautiful Crawford Pond (aka Crawford Lake) is an outdoor kitchen and lounging area with patio table and chairs, umbrella, as well as kitchenware (cookware, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, coffee press, etc.), a gas grill, and firepit. Also onsite is a shed for storing food bins and trash, a solar composting toilet, and a solar sun shower stall. The campsite is just steps away from shared water access with a small beach and space to launch paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, or other similar kinds of watercraft. Friendly dogs are welcome at the campsite and on the beach; however, dogs should not be left unattended at the campsite or on the beach. The lake covers nearly 600 acres, with an 11-mile perimeter, and is 3.5 miles in length. In the middle sits 100-Acre Island, a beautiful piece of land stewarded by the Georges River Land Trust and a great place to get out and stretch your legs if you are on a long paddle or to have a picnic. In general, this is a delightful setting for swimming, floating, fishing, and paddling among the loons and other wildlife that this water body is home to. The campsite is a short drive to a number of terrific hiking trails that are part of the Georges Highland Path, a 70-mile network of trails, and the St. George River Canoe Trail. It’s also just 20 minutes to Camden Hills State Park and downtown Camden, and 18 minutes to Rockport or Rockland. There are many excellent restaurants and art galleries in these coastal towns, as well as opportunities to get out on the ocean and enjoy our coastal beaches or catch a ferry for a day trip out to explore one of the iconic islands offshore. We enjoyed the beach, and I would highly consider coming back at a warmer time. The campsite we stayed at wasn’t as big as it looked in photos, so there was some maneuvering near the old house to fit our two tiny trailers. It was an hour to the main Acadia entrance, but so beautiful out there. If camping in tick season, bring spray and check your dogs. We were covered. Beach was 100/10.

Weekend Trip to Four Acre Woods Island Campground

We absolutely loved our stay at Four Acre Woods Campground. If anything we wish we had stayed longer! The campsite was out on a very quiet island, truly not too far from our outings. We stayed on the primitive secluded site which was absolutely perfect. It was very spacious, with tons of privacy, located steps away from the community cabin. We wish we had more time to enjoy the community cabin as it was warm, filled with books, games, cookware, utensils, lanterns, ice, tea, coffee, local guides and cozy sofas. Our campsite additionally had a private walk way to the bathrooms, which we were pleasantly surprised by for a campsite! The shower was equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body wash if needed, and the bathroom was as clean as you could possibly expect a campsite bathroom to be! Firewood was easy to purchase and bring over to our campsite which we appreciated. The hosts were very kind and helpful and we truly hope to be back again next year to hopefully spend a much longer stay at the four acre woods and get a chance to experience the onsite sauna :) thanks so much for having us! Would 110% recommend. (Ps. Just beware of deer and wildlife on the drive in, it is deer isle after all ;) )

The proximity to Bar hHarbor and Acadia National Park was an added bonus but by far the best part was meeting Daniel and his mother. Quarrys Ledge was wonderful ! From the hospitable staff to the beautiful grounds, we had a great stay! The bathrooms were definitely note worthy as well, always clean and stocked. We stayed in a waterfront site which was definitely worth the extra money in my opinion. However, even the other campsites looked great. I also love that they gave an option to add firewood to the reservation - saved us a trip to the store! I highly recommend and would come back again!
