1 night at Camp Escape

I camped in my van for the night. I am traveling for work and had enough of hotel rooms. Shelby's land is exactly what I needed. It was quiet, clean, secure, and peaceful. The check in was a breeze at it was all done through HipCamp. Shelby sent me a welcome message as well as the code for the combination lock on the gate. I didn't really explore the property, but my space was hidden and peaceful.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Valley River Camp

Beautiful place with a great view! Spent a lot of time swimming and fishing in the river! Enough space to play football, pickleball, tag, etc with our big family. Land is maintained very well, porta potty clean with a nice hand washing station right next to it. Will be back!

3 nights at Nighthawk Forest

Enjoyed our stay at Nighthawk Forest [Site 7] celebrating my nephews 14th Birthday! Clean facilities (portable toilets were particularly maintained), and the availability of amenities such as fire wood was satisfactory. The location offered appealing natural surroundings and the serene sounds of pure nature. Good communication with owner as well as the site manager. FYI the ticks were thick on this site (recommend coming fully prepared with repellent) Would definitely recommend to others. Can’t wait to return to Nighthawk Forest!

2 nights at Hidden Valley River Camp

What a great spot! Truly feels like a hidden gem. We had a wonderful stay for two nights. Kathy and her husband were so friendly and helpful offering check-ins but leaving us to ourselves the rest of the time. Our boys (5 and 3) LOVED our camp site next to the creek. We caught frogs, fish and crawdads and every bug you could think of! We had deer walk through the camp site and saw mice, chipmunks, and all sorts of birds which was heaven for my two outside kids. Bonus - great fireworks for July 4th right next to the river! We will definitely be back!

This is one of our FAVORITE places. Steve takes excellent care of his guests. The grounds are beautiful and so fun for our kids. He set everything up for us and our kids. This would be a wonderful place to host a reunion or group gathering. We will be back again.

Kerry's homestead is fabulous. I'm an entomologist and he let me use some electricity to set up a collecting light at night. I spent most if not all of my time wandering around in the woods and watching my fire. No mosquitoes and an amazing number of fireflies.

Cool little spot not far from Louisville Here’s the story I was driving from N.O. To Cincinnati and back - on the way up I stayed at an icky hotel - I did NOT want a repeat for return trip - I saw the cool van on Shelby’s site so I messaged her about it— the van was taken so I asked if I could car camp- she was very responsive and said yes Directions were clear and getting to the site was super easy

2 nights at Little Blue Horse Camp

My partner and I really enjoyed this little pocket of heaven. The property is well kept and if you enjoy rugged camping you will surely enjoy it here! The cabin and kitchen area is so lovely. There is a fridge and air conditioning for if you really need to cool off. The property has two perfect places to set up camp and a couple of wonderful trails that lead off of the camp itself. The neighbor off of the property has a cute dog and chickens where you can buy fresh eggs! It is so peaceful and calm at night all you can hear is the animals, the leave,the crickets,and that really loud toad but don't pay no mind to him.overall we really enjoyed are staying and we will be camping here again and did I mention this was are first time camping.

2 nights at Bourbon Trail Campground

We had a great time camping at Bourbon trail camp! It was very private (we were the only ones there to my knowledge) and super close to distilleries we were visiting. Hosts were very accommodating upon arrival and throughout our stay. Nice little creek to help cool off as well. Few things to be aware of: (did not prevent us from enjoying our time!) 1. Fairly close to the road and train so some loud noises from there can be heard. 2. There are dogs around (owner and neighbors) which roam and may bark at you but will also go away if you tell them. They were fine with our dog being on property as well. 3. There is not much shade (open field camping for the most part) and the land has some hills so great spots may be limited especially when it’s hot. They do have flat spaces carved out but the shade was the more limiting factor for us during our hot summer trip. 4. Due to camping in grass, we had a few more bugs and ticks than experienced elsewhere. Very easy to manage with common practice, but make sure to bring thermacell. Despite the few notes above (trying to help future campers!), we had a wonderful time and will be back!

We really enjoyed our stay! It was a tiny bit of a detour off our route, but well worth it. The site was safe and well maintained, a welcome respite after a rough travel day. The fireflies were magical, too! The host's directions were perfect and the sites were clearly marked. (And level, which is always appreciated!) We stayed in the black walnut site, closest to the road. I was concerned we might have a bit of road noise at first, but it wasn't an issue at all. We had a peaceful night and slept so well. The surrounding area was pretty; we enjoyed getting to see something besides highway on our way through the Louisville area. We would definitely stay again.

I loved the primitive tent camping! Bradley’s backwoods campsite was perfect and secluded. It was peaceful and the petting zoo was perfect. Mr. Ed the mini horse came right up in our campsite and let us pet him and feed him. He was so sweet. Let us take picture with him. Steve was the best host! Loved this little hole in the wall. Also the little signs along the small trails were so funny and gave it the best little homey touch! 1000/10. Thank you all so much!

Weekend Trip to Happy Hollow Homestead

We had a great time camping at Happy Hollow Homestead. The weekend we went was during the neighborhood's Summer Solstice party, and even though we didn't attend, it was a good time. (We were invited to the party, just chose not to go because we were honeymooning.) There is practically no cell service in the whole area of Marengo, but Kerry has wi-fi over the whole property, so we were still able to be reached if needed. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will definitely be back.

In addition, you will likely need a brake-control system installed for coming down the hill. Front-wheel drive vehicles with high clearance should be satisfactory to cross the bridge and exit the steep hill as long as you are not pulling an RV. Currently there is limited Wi-Fi available through the park but especially near the office on lot 50, if you need it, ask the Manager to put you near it because we are trying to provide a radiation free area for our Manager and guests. Enjoy the beautiful new landscaping in this Resort like RV Park with twinkly lights that come on throughout the night and we have a beautiful winding creek with creek front sites. The park has paved roads, concrete pads. This is a big rig park that can handle coaches as large as 50 feet. Because we are conveniently located in the greater Louisville metropolitan area, please know there is a nearby train track that comes by a few times a day, but you get use to it, and we are only 8 miles from the Louisville International airport, but there is no freeway noise which can be very loud. We do not have bath or shower houses, or a pool, but we do have laundry facilities on site. There are showers within 2 miles at the Pilot gas station on I-65. We strive to offer excellent customer service, so please feel free to call if you have any issues! We have an on-site Assistant Manager. Annie is located on lot 12a, and you can reach her after you arrive by calling (502) 276-6090, or look for Annie working in the park. For long term RV guests, we require RVs to be 10 years or newer. Great for Hunting Learn more about this land: The Cabin is powered by solar &; wind and uses a filtered rain water collection system. It is close to French Lick & Paoli, hiking, golf, canoeing, spelunking, skiing hunting and more. Please note that during the winter months the angle of the sun is lower and the panels do not produce as much power as in the summer months (plus you have less daylight hours) . Depending on the cloud cover you may be limited to lights only in November, December, January and February . There is a generator available for rent at $10.00 per night plus gas or you can bring your own. There is a wood stove and a 13,000 btu indoor gas wall heater for heat, both units provide more than enough heat. There are two window air conditioning units that can be used in, June, July and August. Once you get to the end of August or on cloudy days you are limited to the amount of time you can use the AC units unless you rent the generator. There is a propane cook stove available if you run out of power and 2 charcoal grills (you supply charcoal). Please note that the cabin is still a work in progress and is not 100% completed. Also note that if rain is limited there may be no water.

Chickens,guineas,ducks,turkeyand geese are free range so all about near house. This is also a cat sanctuary with disabled cats mostly wobbly, you probably won't see any of them as they are afraid of strangers. Please understand, you will be in the woods. We have coyotes,bobcat,mountain lion,fox,deer,skunk racoons, opossums etc... Keep food contained and be aware of surroundings! We now have kune kune pigs. And recently added 2 mini cows, 1 is an 11 year old rescue and 1 is a heifer calf as well as a standard heifer calf. I do have 2 honey bee hives on property.
