3 nights at Terrapin Hill Farm

Terrapin Hill was delightful. Brenda and Pete were wonderful hosts, and the land offered quiet spots and rolling trails. It's close to Shaker Village and lots of other sites.

Weekend Trip to Savvy Retreat

Savvy Retreat is the perfect spot for a private getaway. The hosts have thought of everything, making it such a comfortable stay. We will definitely be visiting here again!

3 nights at The Kilns @ The Red River Gorge

The kids and I had a lovely stay at the Kilns. 😊 Our hosts were friendly, relaxed, and so thoughtful! We really appreciated that firewood was free because we were using it to cook our meals! Scott even delivered dry wood and kindling when ours got rained on! We did have to get some earplugs for the spring frogs at night but loved hearing the sounds of nature. We weren't bothered by any mosquitoes. It was a perfect close spot for visiting the RRG too! Lots of positives about this site and would recommend. We camped under the chestnut tree because we knew there was some rain in the forecast.

2 nights at The Kilns @ The Red River Gorge

The Kilns is a beautiful piece of land just ten minutes from the Red River Gorge, which was an amazing arrangement for us hikers. Kimberly was so welcoming and kind. On arrival, she gave us a whole guide packet for our stay, including a map, a list of nearby recommended restaurants, recommended hikes, and even a sticker for our water bottles. A thunderstorm hit on our second night and Kim generously let us move our tent under an awning on their property. With plenty of firewood available and a clean port-a-potty, we’d definitely stay again. Regarding the frogs: yes, they are very loud! You will not be able to ignore them, but we considered them a feature of the land and Kim warned us ahead of time that they’d be making noise. We brought ear plugs and had no trouble getting to sleep (bring them if you stay here).

Weekend Trip to Camp Middle Fork

Great area with lots to do. There was a mushroom festival in town with a car and rock show, live music etc. The host was amazing, helped with information on hiking trails and things to do in the area. Hiking trails right behind camp, and a stream very close for the kids to play and discover new things in. Our boys had a really fun time on their first camping trip! If you haven’t already, give this place a visit.

7 nights at HomeGrown HideAways

We camped here for two weeks and were sad to leave. Jessa and Nathan made us feel very at home, tucked away in this precious holler. We enjoyed the silence of the night, the fog in the morning, the creek near our campsite, and the incredible hike right on property. We stayed in our 30 foot converted school bus in one of their RV back in sites. We were able to park quite easily, and there was plenty of space to maneuver the bus into the spot. The sites were level with gravel. The creek was actually quite warm to swim in. Our starlink internet worked well! Nathan and Jessa were friendly and quick to respond to any of our messages through Hipcamp. They were happy to share any cool things about the property or the town of Berea. They were respectful of our privacy and also made great company while using the kitchen in the community space. We had a fun time in the moments connecting with them over their garden and chickens. We certainly intend to be back. We really liked the community aspect of their property, encouraging people to connect. We also liked that they had their own products for sale at a reasonable price. We enjoyed everything from their eggs, asparagus, to things like apple butter and fresh garlic powder; all from their own land. We appreciated their complementary springwater. Their generosity and kind hearts truly made this beautiful holler a gem you are going to want to visit. Thank you for such a great experience. We hope to cross paths again!

Weekend Trip to The LAAAAND (just you & 50 acres)

My husband and I loved our camping experience in Cari’s the Laaand. It was fun and weekend is not enough. We loved the short hikes and our favorite is the overlook trail which of course overlooks the Daniel Boone’s Forest. There is no outhouse so better bring your portable toilet ☺️ Overall it was sooo peaceful and serene, we heard roosters at times, but we’re not bothered. The best thing is that we have the place on our own during our stay. 100% sure we’ll book our future camping trips in the Laaaand

Weekend Trip to The Harrican Lakehouse

This was my second visit, and I was planning my third before even leaving! We absolutely love this spot! Plenty of privacy, it’s romantic but could also be kid friendly if needed. The house is decorated so nicely! The a/c works amazing!

This site has amazing views! There were three tents and could easily accommodate more. We a rain storm the first night and the bar was great hang out area to keep dry.

Kimberly is a gracious hostess and was very helpful with recommendations on things to see for this first time visitor to Red River Gorge. Her recommendations for restaurants (Miguel’s!) and coffee (Daniel Boone Coffee house!) were spot on, as well.

2 nights at Boone Valley Campground

We went in late April. We were the only occupants. We had the pick of the lot so we had a chance to check out every option. There were options close together and spots that seemed isolated. Every spot offers something for every camper.

7 nights at The Kilns @ The Red River Gorge

Kimberly and her husband Scott are amazing, they left nothing to want for. I don't even know how to describe this place. The picture do no justice if your looking for small private camping, this is it. In the center of so much to do, the area is absolutely beautiful. I spent a week of vacation here and do not regret even the rainy days. We sat under our canopy and enjoyed it, drinking our coffee. The free fire wood was beyond appreciated! Thanks for all the hard work to keep us stocked. By the way early spring brings on a music simphony of it's own there. Between the crickets and the frogs a radio was not needed. One more of nature's best, being there. Not sure when I'll be back, but I can't wait! Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place!

Jennifer and Tyler were great hosts. This was our first Hipcamp experience and it was wonderful. Never had a 10 acre site before. Super easy to get to off the highway, level site and full hookup. We will go back

2 nights at Bar on the Mountain

This site has the most gorgeous views. The property was clean and easy to access. The Bar was weathered and rustic which made the experience more outdoorsy authentic. I enjoyed it for the short amount of time I got to stay. The only thing that was a downer was that the the 2 sites are a little to close to be considered secluded. You can hear each sites conversations. But I do hope to be back again in the near future and bring a bunch more people.

Plantasia Homestead at Anglin Falls

Our property, Plantasia, is thirty-five acres of hardwood forest, lined with limestone boulders and sandstone cliffs, the occasional old growth tree, and mineral springs pouring out pure delicious water. The rest of the property is an old Appalachian homestead, featuring organic gardens and orchards, two farm cats and one farm dog, bee hives, and a flock of domestic ducks. The stewards are Phil, Sacha, three year-old Aurora, and baby Arthur. We are particularly keen to welcoming other families and/or folks who live in relative sobriety. The springs feed into creeks which criss-cross the wildflower meadow, creating spaces to splash and explore with the minnows, crawdads, frogs, snakes, and whoever else you might find. To the interest of fossil hunters and rock hounds, the creeks are packed with geodes, agates, and relics of an age when Plantasia was the ocean floor (~250 million years ago). Down the road, the trailhead of one of Kentucky's greatest waterfalls, Anglin Falls, is within walking distance (though you can also drive there and park). Plantasia is also a short drive from Berea, the folk art capital of Kentucky, which features plenty of local shops and restaurants, as well as some beautiful trails on the outskirts of town (Brushy Fork for a relaxing stroll, or the Pinnacles for a big majestic hike).

My place is secluded and peaceful. Its a wooded country setting and is a primitive site. There are no facilities or utilities, there is an outhouse/self composting (follow up your business with dropping leaves in after). It may not be suitable for children as there are active brush/wood burn piles on the land. See all photos and ask questions, please. I want it to be enjoyable for all who book. It’s also noteworthy that there are dogs in the area that roam free, it’s way out in the country, there are no leash laws. I’ve never had any issues with unfriendly dogs, but always be aware. It’s at a dead end road, no thru traffic. You can stay and enjoy some amazing stargazing, (there is minimal lighting and a very dark, clear view of the night sky) and lots of peace and quiet or explore the Daniel Boone National Forest surrounding the property or travel a short distance and see so many nearby amazing areas…Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge State Park, NADA Tunnel, Sky Bridge, Cave Run Lake, Twin Knobs and Zilpo Recreation Areas, Carter Caves State Park, Grayson Lake, Rudy’s Ranch. HomeGrown HideAways is a farm, lodging, and event facility nestled in a hundred-acre holler in the Appalachian foothills near Berea, Ky. Our lodging features treehouses, yurts, a bunkhouse, retro camper, water/electric hook-ups, and campsites. We also host weddings, retreats, and other events so advance reservations are required. For insurance purposes and the safety of our own livestock and pets, we do not allow guests to bring their pets/ESAs onto the property. Prepare to UNPLUG as we do not have cell service or wifi (there IS a landline for guests to make phone calls located in the Community Farmhouse). All guests from tent to treehouse have access to our solar-powered Community Farmhouse featuring a fully-stocked chef-inspired kitchen, restrooms, coin-op laundry, and upstairs multi-purpose room with a library and board games. There is also an outdoor kitchen area with additional cooking space including a grill, microwave, and sink (sink is closed in the winter so the pipes don’t freeze). Next to the Farmhouse is a massive pavilion with picnic tables for al fresco dining and firewood bundles to purchase. BRING CASH! Our seasonal bath house is generally open from April or May to October or November based on the prevailing temps. There are 4 flush toilets, 2 sinks, and 2 hot showers. The floors are concrete so we recommend shower shoes and you'll want to bring your own towels and shampoo/soap. The farm has a small playground, yard games, creeks, and a steep and rugged hiking trail that loops the mountain.
