Our 360-acre family farm—held by our family for nearly 80 years—has been transformed from a tree grove and a former highway borrow pit into a welcoming campground.
We’ve built two structures on the property, including a shop with a restroom and a cozy porch where my wife and I enjoy evenings watching deer and other wildlife. What began as a spot for family camping has grown into a campground we’re now opening to guests.
Campsites range from electric-hookup sites for convenience to primitive sites for those who want to unplug and enjoy quiet time in nature.
Beyond relaxing, guests can fish and paddle-boat on our pond or access the nearby Volga River for canoeing and kayaking. The Volga River State Recreation Area is just 10 miles away and offers additional fishing, boating, hiking, and horseback-riding opportunities.
Update: So far this spring we haven't seen any fish in our pond. We don't know what happened to them and if fishing on the pond will be possible this year.

We have a lovely piece of property to come enjoy a getaway at. We enjoy all of the peace and quiet around here. The night sky is unbeatable in my eyes. We have a small hobby farm with lots of very tame animals. We have 42 acres to roams with lots of trails within the woods that are filled with aged oak trees and many young maple trees. Our property is filled with lots of wild flowers and wildlife.
We are locate 3 miles from the root river if you enjoy fishing or going for a float down the river. There are two caves in our area that are a must see while you are visiting. I you like to hike there is a state park 14 minutes from us that have many miles of hiking trails and horse trails.
If you are more the small town strolling type of person we have lots of small towns around us that are filled with shops and lots of great food! There is a large system of bike trails in our area that make a very fun way to check out some of the small towns.
If you have a family with kids we have a lot of fun activities you can do with your kids, like spending time with the goats and chickens, playing on our playground, or taking a nice walk through the woods looking for fossils!

The Prairie Lodge, once the main “corn crib” used for drying and storing harvested corn, has been thoughtfully renovated into a comfortable and charming retreat. Inside, you’ll find a full kitchen, two bathrooms, a cozy living room, and an open loft with four queen beds. The loft comfortably sleeps eight and can accommodate up to ten guests with a blow-up mattress if needed.
Step onto the east-facing patio deck with your morning beverage and watch the sunrise over fields of blooming prairie flowers. Wildlife is abundant—deer, rabbits, songbirds, pheasants, and even eagles are frequent visitors. As night falls, the second-floor deck becomes the perfect spot for stargazing and listening to the calls of coyotes echoing across the land.
Next door to the Lodge, you’ll find the Bin Bar—a once-abandoned grain bin transformed in 2017 into a unique gathering space ideal for late-night storytelling and nightcaps under the stars.
For those traveling with a larger group, RV campsites with full water, sewer, and electrical hookups are available near the Lodge. If additional accommodations are needed beyond the Prairie Lodge, please contact your Hipcamp host for details and availability.

Kody’s site is amazing. It offered beautiful views in every direction. The rural road is visible from a distance but there were very few cars. The walking trails zig zagged up a small bluff for more spectacular views of the campsite and beyond. The stream curled around the site which is not only scenic but so wonderful to listen to. We sat in our lawn chairs in the shallow part and swam near the small bridge where it was deeper to cool off. We saw lots of trout but didn’t have luck catching them. We experienced some deer flies but limited mosquitos which was a bonus. The covered structure provided nice shade and some rustic “high top” wooden counters kept out camp bins dry and off the ground. There is so much open space for the dogs to run around. If you are looking for a private, quiet place to enjoy nature, this is a superb option! Kody was very responsive and clearly takes pride in his land. We are grateful he is willing to share his beautiful property and we would love to return soon.

Weekend Trip to Lanesboro Acres
What a gem! Lanesboro Acres is a great place if your looking for beautiful views, wildlife, and just being in nature. We enjoyed the huge tent, great fire pit, and the open space. Neil is a fantastic host! He met us upon arrival and gave a quick load down of the area. There is firewood for purchase at campsite, plenty of walking trails and solar lighting outlining the campsite if you need to step outside in the middle of the night. We enjoyed watching the deer stroll through the property too. Late night, the stars are amazing and the fireflies put on quite a show. Highly recommend this property!

I adored my stay on Kody’s land! There was always something to do. Swim, explore the trails around the land, get the tent setup. It was more whimsical and engaging than i could have imagined. The river constantly was moving and created a very peaceful place to rest. There are a lot of places with shade to stay cool during the summer. He also has a nice place to build your fire and you can park your car relatively close to your site, so it’s easy to haul firewood, your tent etc. Kody is the nicest and chillest host I’ve ever met. Really easy to talk to. Despite messaging him that I forgot to bring firewood he still offered to let me use some spare wood! Very cool. (Though I found some at a store later) He also responded quick to my questions even though I booked kind of late. I can’t wait to return again. If you have never camped in the country, you must try this place. The morning of, is mysterious and whimsical.

We brought our two kids (21 months and 2 months) and had a blast with the goats! They were right next to the camp. We had snores for the first time here. The cabin was perfect, and Cathy ran up a couple of battery powered portable fans for the heat of the day. Easily our favorite Hipcamp we’ve ever been to! Location was great too at 10-15 min away from Lanesboro for lunch.

We recently stayed here for a getaway to Decorah and overall had a really great experience. The property felt private and peaceful, while still being close enough to downtown Decorah and surrounding attractions to easily explore the area. It was the perfect mix of convenience and relaxation.
The creek and waterfall were such a highlight, and we especially loved getting to pet the horses during our stay. It really added to the charm of the property.
Jon was also very responsive and helpful. We ran into a few small issues during our stay, but he came right away to assist and was great about communication.
A couple things future guests may want to keep in mind: the fridge is on the smaller side, so depending on your group size or length of stay, bringing coolers might be helpful. The shower is also fairly tight/small. It worked well for our kiddo, but was a little less comfortable for adults, and the hot water runs out pretty quickly, so plan on shorter showers.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the unique setting, peaceful atmosphere, and great location

Such a gorgeous property and a great place to camp! We stayed in the a frame and while the lot it sits on was a bit small it was still perfect for us and two dogs. We stayed for two nights and ended up being the only ones there for a little while which was perfect for the dogs and lots of area to walk around that we all loved! We already have another trip planned to come back in a couple weeks would definitely recommend!
