Welcome to Smokey Acres! This property has been in my family for decades. My Husband and I were married under the oaks and have had our share of campfires out there. Down a hidden gravel drive with wetlands on either side you will find a completely fenced in field surrounded by pine, oak, and swamp maple trees. There are two ponds located on the property both stocked with bass, bluegill, and sunfish. The front pond is home to many natural Florida wildlife and is a great location to bird watch. Located a few miles from Brooksville and the Suncoast Parkway, this quiet and peaceful setting is just 5 minutes from the parking area and trailhead for the Suncoast Trail and 10 miles from the famous Weeki Wachee Springs, where you can spend the day at the local park or float down the river with the manatees. Withlacoochee State Park and other natural preserves with trail access and kayaking are only a short distance away, and Dames Cave, Homosassa Springs, and Chasawiska Springs are all within a ~20-minute drive as well. Spending a day at the beach is easy with plenty of options along the Nature Coast. We’re also less than an hour from Tampa and Clearwater and two hours from Orlando. A perfect weekend get-away for anyone looking to “unplug,” Smokey Acres is also a great stop for those passing through the area. We are a close distance to many racing, livestock, boating and fishing events. We have no problem accommodating whatever you’re towing! The property is definitely different then most. The site itself is super spacious, and has great tree coverage from some ancient oaks. the site can hold up to an extra 5 tents if neened. There is solar power to the tee pee with a 750w solar inverter connected to two deep cycle batteries. Now to get to the site you have to go through the main busy part of the property (we literally have planes, trains and automobiles and more). But once you get to the site you feel the nature. Also right next to the property about 100 yd from where the property starts there is an entrance to a boat ramp (which has a 2 mi canal that goes to lake Apopka where you can launch a canoe or kayak, or do some fishing), also a 2.6 mi nature trail, and about 100 yd as well there is a 25 mile trail that you can bike, walk or horseback ride. That trail is a part of the Apopka wildlife drive which also starts not far from the property. It's a free nature drive on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays plus holidays. We are around 15 to 20 minutes from a few different springs such as wekiva springs, wekiva Island, Rock springs and Kings landing. We are about 45 minutes from SeaWorld, aquatica, volcano Bay, universal studios and more.

This beautiful slice of Old Florida is named for the Pithlachascotee River that bends along the back side of the property. Pithlo is the Creek word meaning canoe, and chaskita means to dig or chop out, together signifying "place where canoes are chopped or dug out". Seminoles of this area used canoes dug out from the great cypress trees found along Florida rivers. From the 1980s until 2014, this property was owned by the Cotee River Lions Club. They held a popular monthly pancake breakfast fundraiser in the large pavilion along the river. We purchased this 4.9 acres of land in late 2019. It is now where we live and have a woodworking shop. It has been a magical place for us, with no shortage of wildlife, rich jungle forest, a winding narrow river, and even the occasion river otter sighting. We are grateful to all the humans who have occupied this place over the centuries before us for keeping it as nature intended it. It is our intention to do our part to conserve and protect its natural beauty as long as possible. We hope you find it to be as restful and rejuvenating as we do.

Use our kayaks or bring your own to explore one of Florida’s Outstanding Waterways where you may meet a manatee, observe otters, find fish, or watch wildlife of all kinds. The site has direct access to Pepper Creek Trail, a 0.75-mile paved trail that is part of the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. While you’re there, swing into the state park to view the sparkling waters of the Homosassa head spring and meet all of the native wildlife ambassadors, including Florida panthers, black bears, endangered whooping cranes, and many other amazing animals. Interested in charter fishing, scalloping, or an ecotour? Your hosts are both professional, experienced charter captains. Avoid the crowds at the dock and step right onto the boat here! Ask for availability prior to your stay. The site is private and away from the hosts home, approximately 75-yards from the river, with electricity and water provided. There is no sewer hookup; restrooms and shower facilities are not available. If your rig does not have a toilet, please bring your own method to contain and dispose of solid toilet wastes.

This camping experience was incredible! The land is beautiful and cared for, the property felt private and exclusive, yet was very easy to navigate; the roads well maintained and accessible for any vehicle. Large flat beautiful areas for multiple tents under the trees or in the open, and plenty of room to park and lay out blankets to star gaze. Rob and Mike were wonderful and available, met us at the gate and led us to our spot, showing us all the important points. The horses and mules were adorable and friendly. SO many birds to listen to when awakening, and the stars at night were incredibly bright. Bathroom area was clean, and not only stocked with shampoo and conditioners, but also coffee, creamer, and hot chocolate! We went to swim with manatees one day, but honestly could have stayed and just enjoyed the scenery just as happily. It was heaven. We missed the tour, but trust it would have been lovely as well. We will definitely return!

The driveway is very rough on the way in. A beautiful spot once you got back in where the sites were. We use a 38' travel trailer and was able to get in and out. The electric service on our site was weak but we managed. Overall a good experience.

The second night someone else was there but you couldn’t even tell because of the spacing of the sites! The place is paradise and although we boon docked they had a place to fill up with water upon arrival and a dump station when we left. While staying we were soo far away from other campers we had to search to find them. So many private sites. There is a reason they are number 1!!

We rented RV site 2 for tent camping and it was amazing! The site was spacious and spread apart from the other guests. The owner stopped by and was gracious enough to loan us an electrical adapter so we could get power and stopped by everyday for general maintenance and to check on our stay! It was an amazing holiday weekend and hated to see it end! There is toilet and shower (outdoor) and it was much appreciated even if a little rustic!! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The camping was amazing. The camp sites were extremely spacious. Lots of rooms to let the kids run around and not disturb other campers. The horses walking right upto you was an awesome experience. Mike and Rob were very attentive to any needs or questions (ice, wood). We will be back!
