This private alpine meadow sits at approximately 11,000 feet, at the base of two 14,000-foot peaks, on 160 secluded acres bordering National Forest. At night, you may hear great horned owls in the trees, coyotes calling at sunset, and sometimes moose moving quietly through the meadow. During the day, the air smells of pine, summer grass, and cold mountain water. Sit beside the stream with your feet on warm granite while the wind moves through 3,000-year-old trees overhead. It is peaceful, wild, and difficult to describe until you are here.
The site is built for guests who want to disconnect from crowds and reconnect with nature without giving up comfort. Tucked into the meadow is a cozy insulated A-frame shelter with large windows, a skylight, soft solar lighting for nighttime ambiance, a locking door, and a full-size bed. It is simple, warm, secure, and comfortable — a perfect basecamp after exploring the high country.
From the property, you have access to miles of 4x4 roads, ATV trails, hiking routes, wildlife viewing, photography, stargazing, and quiet time by the stream. Spend the day hiking alpine ridges, exploring the forest, reading on the deck, or doing nothing at all.
Amenities include a wood deck, waterproof awning, picnic table, BBQ grill, bear box, oversized stone fire pit, and simple backcountry-style toilet setup.

Oh and quite possibly our rooster crowing ;) Hike into the National Forest off the property. Guided hikes can also be arranged for an additional fee. Or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet!
Plenty of other hiking trails nearby, creeks and Slaughterhouse Gulch for those that love a good 4WD adventure.
A propane fire-pit will be provided for you so you can still enjoy a nice campfire. A propane heater is also available for chilly nights or winter camping. The Greenhouse also includes a camp stove, a percolator for making coffee or tea, minimal cookware and silverware. Potable water will be provided along with coffee and tea. Fresh eggs from our chickens can also be made available upon request for a small fee.
Cots and a hammock are available for use in the Greenhouse, but you will have to bring your own sleeping mats, sleeping bags and pillows. Sleeping mats and sleeping bags on the floor are also an option if you choose. Picnic tables are close to the Greenhouse for enjoying time outdoors.
The Glamping in the Aspens Tent has a wood burning stove in it that will be available starting later season 2024. Firewood for the wood stove will be provided for you. Just outside the tent is a picnic table with BBQ grill and propane fire pit. There is a porch area with outdoor kitchen and a queen sized bed inside the tent. A comfy dog bed is also included.
A composting toilet is available for use. No showers currently available (Bath House coming soon).
Well behaved dogs are allowed, however, they must be on a leash or under voice command.
There are 2 dogs that live on the property as well as chickens, turkeys, and a cat. All will be contained so as not to disturb (except for the occasional rooster crow).

Little Scraggy Camp is located on 95 acres of an historic 160-acre ranch that was homesteaded by our family in the 1890’s, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. This totally off-grid ranch is surrounded by Pike National Forest, yet has easy access from a paved road. We offer several accommodations and glamping sites, as well as sites for moderate sized RVs, travel trailers, truck campers, vans, tents, and hammocks. Additionally, we have sites for small groups (up to 16 people) and large groups (35-200 people).
NEW FOR 2025 - two separate, professionally designed 18-hole disc golf courses with PDGA regulation baskets, and a Pro Shop with a free 9-hole putting course, which is great for those who have never played disc golf and want to try it out, (we have free loaner discs). Our Hipcamp guests get a 10% discount on player fees, their children play free.
Portable toilets are only a short walk away from sites. We also have several cornhole toss games set up. Friendly, well-mannered dogs are welcome to enjoy YOUR campsite off leash, but please clean up after your dog.
We are an ideal basecamp for hiking or biking trail enthusiasts,with direct access to the Little Scraggy Trail and Segment #3 of the Colorado Trail. Little Scraggy Trailhead is 3.5 miles away, with easy access for biking, hiking, or horseback riding on the many other trails of the Buffalo Creek area.
You might prefer rock climbing Little Scraggy or fishing the gold-medal waters of the South Platte River canyon below Cheesman Dam and the waters near Deckers. For a day trip, Wellington Lake is only 30 minutes away for no-wake water sports. Many people enjoy kayaking on the North Fork of the South Platte downstream from nearby Buffalo Creek.
This is a working ranch where we raise and train Shire draft horses and also ponies. Our particular interest is in carriage driving, and we offer driving experiences upon request.

Had such a wonderful time here! The whole glamping setup was beautiful, cozy, and had everything we needed. The bell tent was super comfortable, and it was so nice having the queen mattress and bedding already set up. We also loved having the cooking supplies, cooler, fire pit, and heater. All of the extra amenities just made camping feel so easy! The site itself was gorgeous and peaceful, surrounded by nature and perfect for relaxing. Our group had an amazing time, and it was such a fun way to get away and enjoy the outdoors without giving up the comforts of home. We’d definitely come back and I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to be “outdoors” without giving up all the luxuries that you have to when tent camping.
The host of the site always went the extra mile with helping us out. He assisted us in getting all of our stuff to the site, setting up the propane fire, and gave great recommendations for hiking in the area. Thanks for a great time Tim!

As everyone else said, this was SO worth the hard hike! What an incredible experience, we can’t wait to go back
A few things to know:
DRIVING/PARKING:
as of Aug 2026, the GPS coordinates for the parking lot for Tacomas and 4Runners leads you up the 4x4 HCR on Google Maps, which is NOT doable, so make sure you follow the written directions provided and NOT Google Maps!!!!
HUT LOCATION:
We had a hard time locating the hut from the city - it is up the hill to the LEFT when you are facing the HC city. we could not see the huts at all because of the trees and were very unclear where to go and it took us a little while to find
Other things:
- Highly recommend Cleveland Lake day hike
- Easy access to water source when we went (slow trickle moreso than a stream but easy to get to)
- Don’t recommend relying on the solar generator/panels
- We hiked up the 4x4 road (by accident) and it was ~4.5 miles, ~2400 elevation gain. Constant uphill with tough rocky terrain

Tim's place was amazing to us as a family. He was very attentive and helpful throughout the time we were there. The lookout scenery was amazing from high-up in the camp site. The location of the camp is excellent with easy access to different nearby tourist town. Literally we only need to bring our food, pack-and-play, things for the kids; and Tim provided almost everything our family needs. We also went fishing in nearby lakes and reservoirs which are a short drive from the camp. We did not have the chance to use his kayaks, but definitely next time we will!

We had a wonderful time at the campsite. The structure was small, but roomy enough for 2 adults and a dog and we loved relaxing under the covered porch. The grill was clean and worked well. We loved how quiet it was, it felt like a place we backpacked to rather than drove.
Our dog enjoyed it so much that we had to carry her to the car to leave!
Some tips:
- the dirt road to the sitewas well maintained bit did require high clearance in areas.
- Remember to bring water, blankets, grilling tools like tongs and enough trash bags to take out ALL your waste.
- Be moose aware - we didn't see any but there were lots of moose droppings near the site.
-pull the bear box lid straight up when opening not out! It took us a minute to figure it out!

This place is absolutely amazing and beautiful! It was the perfect glamping experience — peaceful, relaxing, and surrounded by nature, but with all the little comforts and extras that made it feel easy and special.
Tim is amazing and has truly bent over backwards to make this place perfect. You can tell he has put a ton of thought and effort into every detail, and everything we needed for our camping/glamping stay was already there. It made it so easy to just show up, relax, enjoy the outdoors, sit back by the fire, and take in the whole experience.
The property is beautiful, the atmosphere is incredible, and it was exactly the kind of getaway we were looking for. We will absolutely be back. If you're looking for a great camping or glamping spot, you will not be disappointed. Highly recommend!

3 nights at Gondola Village at Holy Cross
A good high-alpine base camp. The construction is tight, the windows and screens are new, we didn’t have a single mosquito or fly during the stay despite keeping the windows open.
The small steel table works well as a camp kitchen, and there’s pots and a frying pan available. There was a tiny rivulet 30 yards from the cabin with just enough flow to refill bottles.
Off-roaders will love the jeep trails. We hiked, and carried water shoes for the crossings on French Creek but didn’t need them (it’s a drought year). There are nicer hiking trails up above the cabin and toward Fancy Lake/Pass. We found Gaia far more useful than Alltrails in this area since most of the old trails are unnamed/unmarked and without pre-recorded routes.
The bed is comfortable. We brought sleeping bags and pillowcases. At 1:00am, the first night, some animal was scratching at the siding and then on the beams underneath. Very loud. I used a long piece of wood (there’s still plenty of construction detritus around, handy for the purpose) to roust it out, then it left us alone for the rest of the trip.
Things to bring: water filtration, maybe sporks, charged headlamps and battery backup since the current solar/battery system in the cabin is not functioning. Ben intends to work on it…but near term I’d bring a backup, so your phones/nav don’t die like ours did before getting out of the wilderness.
All-in-all a great trip. Thanks, Ben, for managing this place and letting us stay. What a cool adventure!
