Zen Yurt in Murphys

17. Zen Yurt in Murphys

49mi from Turlock · 1 site
We have a beautiful 45-acre slice of foothill forest-meets-town life to offer, with a glamping experience built around a Japanese bathhouse vibe and a lot of DIY determination. The yurt sits next to a "spa garden," a serene wellness area with a sauna, Japanese soaking tub (ofuro), garden nooks, and a Japanese bathhouse-style setup. Almost everything out here is host-built—even the bricks in the bathhouse were hand-hewn. Soak as long as you like, breathe the pine air, and let your nervous system defrag. While the yurt and spa garden sit on the edge of a forest, you’re still only about a 10-minute walk to Main Street Murphys—a ridiculously cute Gold Country town with tasting rooms, great food, indie shops, and a surprisingly legit live music scene. It’s wine country with small-town energy. Maybe what Napa was like in the ’60s? Because we sit right on the border of town and forest, you’ll get a real blend of sounds: wind in the trees, coyotes in the field, and owl calls at night… plus the sounds of kids playing in the churchyard and a dog down the way. It’s not deep-wilderness silent—more “edge-of-town retreat” quiet. For exploring, you can hike straight from the property up our hill—Rocky Hill, as locals know it. It’s a fun, scrambly wander with big views, and it also taps into the area’s Gold Rush history: you’ll find caves and old miner ruins along the way. Come for glamping comfort, backcountry vibes, and town tacos within strolling distance!

Ranchero Cottage on New Hogan Lake

15. Ranchero Cottage on New Hogan Lake

47mi from Turlock · 1 site
Make lasting memories at this cozy cottage in the foothills of Calaveras County. Deer are abundant, wild turkeys roost in the trees & a large seasonal pond is full of frogs with the occasional ducks, egrets & turtles that love to pass through. The cottage sits on 5 beautiful acres where the terrain has little variation in elevation, making it easily accessible for exploration. In a rural neighborhood of generously spaced ranchettes, you can ensure a feeling of remote tranquility while being just 2 miles from town for all of your shopping needs. This cozy home sleeps 7 people. It has an open layout of 750 sq. ft. with 2 bedrooms & 1 full bathroom. The primary bedroom has a queen. The secondary bedroom has a twin-over-full bunk bed plus a sofa that pulls out into a queen. The kitchen is thoughtfully stocked with necessities. You can find games/puzzles in the hall closet, plus there's free WiFi. Ranchero Cottage backs up to the Oak Knoll Campground on New Hogan Lake. The boat launch is nearby too, at just 8 minutes away. Spring & Winter Seasons In the spring & winter months, the property is lush & green with a full-flowing pond that feeds into New Hogan Lake. The best part about visiting in the "off-season" is having the peaceful campground all to yourself for exploration. Nothing beats a quiet book or picnic by the lake before the campers come in. Summer & Fall Seasons This is the peak season. The property is golden & dry during the summer & fall months. The seasonal pond is typically low & has algae growth from the heat. While temperatures will be very hot (reaching triple digits at times), the cottage has central HVAC & retains its temperature surprisingly well. There are also many evergreen trees on the property for shade. People love this time of year for fishing, water sports & swimming in the lake!

Second bedroom is semi-private (no door) has a twin trundle bed, a desk for any work or schoolwork needs. There is a sleeper sofa in the living room. Open living room, dining area, and kitchen. Close to downtown Twain Harte and all that it has to offer - summer music outdoors, restaurants, and shops. It is a short drive to Pinecrest Lake and Dodge Ridge. Come stay! The space This house has a primary bedroom with a king bed and a sleeper sofa/ futon (58" long). The second bedroom is semi-private (no door), but since it is across the house from the master, there is some privacy in that way. It has twin trundle beds and is near the second bathroom and right off the kitchen. There's a large back deck for your enjoyment to take in the view of trees and eat outside under the shade umbrella, or to grill on the gas grill. There are stairs to get down to the house, but once inside it is single level. There’s Roku TV and a sound system that you can plug your phone into that’s very loud and good! There is a new AC mini-split unit in the living room! Note: no AC in bedrooms Wood burning fireplace. Guest access You'll have access to the whole house. Other things to note Please note there are stairs to get down to the house, in case you have mobility issues, but there are railings to hold onto. Once inside, there are no stairs! Update: Newly installed AC in living room! In the summertime, this little cabin gets hot even with the evaporative cooler and fans. Hopefully, you are out frolicking during those hours, but please be prepared for the afternoon hours to be very warm. We recently purchased a portable evaporative cooler. You just need to add water to it and you can move it around to wherever you need to cool down. Please note that the second bedroom is semi-private, so maybe more suited to kids or youth - though it is on the other side of the house from the primary bedroom which is private.
