Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, or a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve containing multiple trails. We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available. In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements. Fun Fact: Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer! Today there are just a few bees in the area.

1948- On January 1, 1948 a wildcatter named George Hadley, who had been oil prospecting in the valley for 10 years, made the first oil strike in the Cuyama Valley. Richfield Oil Company soon moved in and extracted nearly 300 million barrels of oil in just a few short years. To accommodate an exploding workforce in the early 1950s, the company built the town of New Cuyama, its infrastructure, public buildings, the Cuyama airstrip (L88) and all the industrial structures that are now home to Blue Sky. Richfield Oil Company, later merging with Atlantic Oil Company forming the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO), created high-paying jobs, a safe and prosperous community, and developed schools, churches, and recreational areas for the employee-residents.1973- With dwindling production in the area and new discoveries in Alaska, Atlantic-Richfield Oil Company put the town of New Cuyama and its associated infrastructure up for sale. Word of an entire town for sale made its way to entrepreneur, Russell O’Quinn of the Foundation for Airborne Relief (FAR) and Mildred Dotson, a wealthy widow from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The two worked together to acquire the townsite and adjacent land. O’Quinn, an aviator, inventor, and test pilot, aspired to use the New Cuyama airstrip and facilities as a base for humanitarian relief and a non-profit trade school. Though not fully realized, FAR’s primary vision included utilizing converted military aircraft to airlift food and medical supplies to developing countries and global disaster areas. Dotson had loftier goals. Her plans included an 18-hole fly-in golf course, expansion of the Buckhorn Restaurant and Motel, and a 40- to 50-acre lake for amphibious landing and water sports. 1986- Another visionary, Harry Kislevitz, inventor of the popular design tool Colorforms® and founder of Future City/Villages International, sought to develop the site as a “City of Friendship,” an all-electric village of 5,000 earthen homes. The dwellings were to be designed by Nader Khalili, an Iranian-born architect who specialized in earthen structures, worked with NASA on prototypes for lunar homes and received an award from the United Nations for his work towards the development of low cost, sustainable structures for human shelter in impoverished and disaster prone environments. One 628-sq-ft Khalili prototype remains on the property today ("the Cantina"). Khalili went on to form the California Institute for Earth Art and Architecture, Cal-Earth, in Hesperia, CA.1993- Recognizing the transformative potential of clean, solar power and the attractiveness of a rural destination, entrepreneur Mike Nolan worked to develop the Solar Skypark and Big Sky Guest Ranch with Santa Barbara Architect, Barry Berkus. The Sky Park included plans for sixty-five fly-in residences on one-acre lots powered completely from clean, solar energy. The Big Sky Guest Ranch was intended to function as a clubhouse for Skypark residents complete with an equestrian center, a small subsistence farm, pool and plenty of enriching recreational activities. 2012- At the end of 2011, the Zannon Family Foundation made a long-term investment in acquiring the New Cuyama Airport property with the vision of rehabilitating the site to be a low-cost resource for programs and organizations working to advance sustainable living practices and technologies. Plans began soon after towards developing a framework and organization to develop the space and coordinate with prospective programs and institutions. In 2014 Blue Sky Sustainable Living Center ("Blue Sky Center") received 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status, endeavoring to reclaim this property for the public good. Today, Blue Sky Center provides unduplicated services and technical assistance to support small businesses and entrepreneurs as well as the local food system, with core work focused on community research and advocacy led by Cuyamans. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food. We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy. PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance. FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions. TASTINGS: Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. This is Glamping at its best! We have two cabins that have kitchens with mini frig, microwaves and sinks. Complimentary coffee and tea as well. Very comfortable queen beds. Each cabin has a living room and table area along with gas fireplaces inside and A/C. Outdoor courtyard area with firepit, picnic tables and string lights to enjoy the days or evenings.  Each cabin sleeps two but both can be rented to sleep four. Both cabins are historic to the area.   All of this is in the center of the Santa Ynez valley close to Los Olivos , Santa Ynez and Solvang. Wine tasting, bike riding and hiking. Wild Seeds Ranch is a great place to stay and hangout for a while. The intentional community feel, the amazing host and other wonderful people who live here all make it a unique and pleasant place to spend time. There are so many amenities --we especially enjoyed the dog park where our dogs could roam and play safely. For the reasonable rates, I can think of no better place to stay around San Diego. Dulzura has a fabulous Mexican restaurant and Jamul offers an amazing fruit market.

Amazing property and Ron is an incredible host! We had such a fun time at this property, from petting the kitchen cats to dipping in our private mineral bath. We had campsite ten! It was beautifully positioned in such a way that the high winds didn’t bother us at all. Ron came out to our site to show us how to work the mineral bath and get the a/c pumping on the yurt. The following day Laura came by to make sure everything was going well for us. Really extraordinary! An oasis in the desert to be sure!

Ron was an amazing host. Very attentive to all our needs and questions. We had our small trailer parked in a very secluded spot with our mineral baths in a little palm tree oasis right next to us. We would highly recommend Mineral Spring Date Farm!!!!

Amazing spot creating a vibrant, nomadic community. It’s an otherworldly creation. Loved the pool and hot tub and the common areas. Amazing shower. Great location, but roads can be a bit tricky. Make sure you confirm your exact spot before arrival, especially in the dark. Luckily everyone we met was helpful and passed it on to others. Can’t wait to return.

Joel is a chill dude and his property is tucked away in a quiet area just two minutes from the freeway. He’s got a restroom and a shower with plenty of hot water. Gwen, Joel’s dog, is old but very friendly and she got along with our dog nicely. This is only the 2nd place we’ve stayed at more than once as we’ve traveled from one side of the country to the other and back again. We’ll definitely stay here again in the future.

Tao’s property was a literal dream. Easy enough to get to from the highway but tucked back enough to feel completely remote and private. I spent the evening swimming and hot tubbing under the stars with views of the mountains and Joshua Tree’s in by far the most incredible pool and jacuzzi set up I have ever been in. Vanarchy 1 was one of my favorite places to date. I am already planning my return back! They also have water, a communal kitchen, towels, and compost toilets. Its literally perfect and I cant wait to return. Also close to so many attractions (Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, Palm Springs, ect) Thanks so much for sharing your space!

This was a fantastic experience, the hosts were very kind and accommodating, we ended up in a beautiful private area surrounded by date. Palms and inside was everything you could want a large giant tent with everything set up inside beds, towels, and everything to make us comfortable. Outside was too natural Hot Springs for our private use. This farm is on an aqueduct in the water is piped up into the spa and you could use it at your leisure 103° natural mineral Springs water. There was a fire ring. We had a beautiful crackling fire every night barbecues set up really all you need to bring. Is your clothes some food and a cooler because everything else is there for your comfort. We had an amazing time. Beautiful bright stars filling the night and just the most serene, gorgeous hidden gem. I would definitely recommend going here.

We stayed at Vanarchy 1 in our trailer. We about had the place to ourselves which we prefer over the crowded national park campgrounds. Great views, wonderful stargazing, and so nice to have amenities like bathroom/showers and the awesome hot tub in the evening. Close enough to the park, town and restaurants without the crowds.
