Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve or 20 minutes to the entrance of Cuyamaca State Park and Cleveland National Forest. We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available. In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements. Fun Fact: Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer! Today there are just a few bees in the area.

1948- On January 1, 1948 a wildcatter named George Hadley, who had been oil prospecting in the valley for 10 years, made the first oil strike in the Cuyama Valley. Richfield Oil Company soon moved in and extracted nearly 300 million barrels of oil in just a few short years. To accommodate an exploding workforce in the early 1950s, the company built the town of New Cuyama, its infrastructure, public buildings, the Cuyama airstrip (L88) and all the industrial structures that are now home to Blue Sky. Richfield Oil Company, later merging with Atlantic Oil Company forming the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO), created high-paying jobs, a safe and prosperous community, and developed schools, churches, and recreational areas for the employee-residents.1973- With dwindling production in the area and new discoveries in Alaska, Atlantic-Richfield Oil Company put the town of New Cuyama and its associated infrastructure up for sale. Word of an entire town for sale made its way to entrepreneur, Russell O’Quinn of the Foundation for Airborne Relief (FAR) and Mildred Dotson, a wealthy widow from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The two worked together to acquire the townsite and adjacent land. O’Quinn, an aviator, inventor, and test pilot, aspired to use the New Cuyama airstrip and facilities as a base for humanitarian relief and a non-profit trade school. Though not fully realized, FAR’s primary vision included utilizing converted military aircraft to airlift food and medical supplies to developing countries and global disaster areas. Dotson had loftier goals. Her plans included an 18-hole fly-in golf course, expansion of the Buckhorn Restaurant and Motel, and a 40- to 50-acre lake for amphibious landing and water sports. 1986- Another visionary, Harry Kislevitz, inventor of the popular design tool Colorforms® and founder of Future City/Villages International, sought to develop the site as a “City of Friendship,” an all-electric village of 5,000 earthen homes. The dwellings were to be designed by Nader Khalili, an Iranian-born architect who specialized in earthen structures, worked with NASA on prototypes for lunar homes and received an award from the United Nations for his work towards the development of low cost, sustainable structures for human shelter in impoverished and disaster prone environments. One 628-sq-ft Khalili prototype remains on the property today ("the Cantina"). Khalili went on to form the California Institute for Earth Art and Architecture, Cal-Earth, in Hesperia, CA.1993- Recognizing the transformative potential of clean, solar power and the attractiveness of a rural destination, entrepreneur Mike Nolan worked to develop the Solar Skypark and Big Sky Guest Ranch with Santa Barbara Architect, Barry Berkus. The Sky Park included plans for sixty-five fly-in residences on one-acre lots powered completely from clean, solar energy. The Big Sky Guest Ranch was intended to function as a clubhouse for Skypark residents complete with an equestrian center, a small subsistence farm, pool and plenty of enriching recreational activities. 2012- At the end of 2011, the Zannon Family Foundation made a long-term investment in acquiring the New Cuyama Airport property with the vision of rehabilitating the site to be a low-cost resource for programs and organizations working to advance sustainable living practices and technologies. Plans began soon after towards developing a framework and organization to develop the space and coordinate with prospective programs and institutions. In 2014 Blue Sky Sustainable Living Center ("Blue Sky Center") received 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status, endeavoring to reclaim this property for the public good. Today, Blue Sky Center provides unduplicated services and technical assistance to support small businesses and entrepreneurs as well as the local food system, with core work focused on community research and advocacy led by Cuyamans. Villa Macala is 15 minutes from Diamond Valley Lake where you can enjoy a wildflower trail, fishing or mountain bike trails, museum and water park. It is 20-30 minutes to Pachea Trail and Simpson Park where you can enjoy more great hiking and mountain bike trails. It is also a 30-minute drive to Temecula Wine Country. We have 2 full outdoor bathrooms, one was most recently added at our Elderberry Camp Site (site 1), and is also close to site 4 our Oaks Campsite as well. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food. We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy. PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance. FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions. TASTINGS: *Temporarily tastings are shut down.* Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. Our products are available for purchase, with or without a tasting. We recommend you bring cash if you are interested. We also take Venmo! GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. This is by far one of the most magical places I have ever camped, the trees are 200 years old and so relaxing. Lexi went above and beyond and so did the staff. I didnt realize it till later, but they were so kind to me and helpful as I didnt have the basic tech knowledge to use my phone to book the campsite. Definitely 5 stars!

We had a great stay at the Date Farm for my husband birthday, what a magical place - we enjoyed privacy, a fire pit and our very own tub of hot spring water! The farm sits on a hot spring aquifer so after you use the water, it drains into the sand and feeds the date palms, any excess seeps back down into the aquifer. Ron was incredibly helpful - thank you Ron for a lovely stay :)

What an amazing oasis in the desert! Our whole family (kids 2 and 4) had an amazing time soaking and relaxing in the pools under the date palm canopy . Ron and Myung are wonderful hosts and if available inquire about the ramen it was beyond amazing ! We had an rv but opted to sleep in the big tent on our site! Amazing times in the desert

We really enjoyed our time at Wildseeds Ranch. In fact, we stayed much longer than planned. The welcoming community of people, the lovely ranch itself with the cool river running through it, the great dog park, and outdoor kitchen...there are so many things to recommend about this Hipcamp. And the host, Lexi, was great to work with. If you're looking for a place to stay in the San Diego area, I highly recommend Wildseeds Ranch. It's far enough out of the city to enjoy nature and close enough to get where you want.

Wild Seeds Ranch is a great place to stay and hangout for a while. The intentional community feel, the amazing host and other wonderful people who live here all make it a unique and pleasant place to spend time. There are so many amenities --we especially enjoyed the dog park where our dogs could roam and play safely. For the reasonable rates, I can think of no better place to stay around San Diego. Dulzura has a fabulous Mexican restaurant and Jamul offers an amazing fruit market.

Amazing property and Ron is an incredible host! We had such a fun time at this property, from petting the kitchen cats to dipping in our private mineral bath. We had campsite ten! It was beautifully positioned in such a way that the high winds didn’t bother us at all. Ron came out to our site to show us how to work the mineral bath and get the a/c pumping on the yurt. The following day Laura came by to make sure everything was going well for us. Really extraordinary! An oasis in the desert to be sure!

The swimming pool is a work of art - a beautiful, long and deep slice of cool water in the desert with a view of the mountains beyond. It’s super special. Various interesting and eccentric accommodations , a large communal kitchen and hang out space with art sprinkled throughout the property.

Ron was an amazing host. Very attentive to all our needs and questions. We had our small trailer parked in a very secluded spot with our mineral baths in a little palm tree oasis right next to us. We would highly recommend Mineral Spring Date Farm!!!!

What a cool spot! A little desert oasis! Ron was so helpful at check in and very quick a responding. The hot spring tubs were very easy to use and worked wonders. All the spots her are very secluded from one another. So you feel like you’re in your own private oasis.
