In Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Shasta Lake (aka Lake Shasta) is a jewel of the Cascade Range, where you can launch your boat or Jet Ski, get out your kayak, swim, fish, go water-skiing, or simply relax on the shore in the shadow of Mount Shasta, the volcanic peak about an hour north of the lake. RV parks abound along Interstate 5, which cuts through the middle of the lake. Most have hookups, and some have pools, stores, firepits, and even boat rentals. More RV parks can be found south of Shasta Lake along the Sacramento River in Redding, as well as the much smaller Lewiston Lake, to the west of Shasta. Summers at Shasta Lake are hot and dry, drawing many visitors looking to escape the cooler coast and San Francisco area. Consider spring or fall for nice weather without the crowds. Winters are cool and can be rainy.
