Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

We camped with our toddler and had a great stay! The site is really private and surrounded by redwood trees, and it’s a ~15 minute drive to the beach and the Forest of Nisene Marks. The only downside is that there were a lot of mosquitos while we were there, although with bug spray and long sleeves we don’t seem to have gotten bit much.

We loved Fern Ridge Flats! Matt 's communication, attention to detail, and warmth were beyond terrific! The area was super clean, exactly as advertised, and super convenient for our 2 days of hiking in The Forest of Nisene Marks and one day at Wilder Ranch State Park. We will definitely be back. Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

Great spot on private land with gorgeous views! Very secluded even though you are just behind the host's house. Are kids were just old enough (3.5 and 5.5) but any younger would have a hard time staying out of the poison oak and away from the steep hills. Matt was very thoughtful with the amenities that make this spot so easy and comfortable - toilet, spigot, gas fire pit. It's a very peaceful spot bursting with nature that is soothing on both the eyes and ears. So easy to get into town and have a beach day, then come back to camp in the redwoods.

Absolutely a fantastic experience for all of us! Especially my 2 years old son! We had such a great time playing with animals, playing with all the toys! Kim was absolutely the perfect host and super super nice! Everything was so clean and well maintained and the hot breakfast DELICIOUS! We will come back for sure!

I loved my stay at fern flats! I got the most amazing sleep, the birds provided beautiful music and it was absolutely quiet at night. I would definitely return. There was construction noise in the mornings though which Matt had zero control over. Hopefully the construction noise will be gone soon. The bottom line is that this place was great!

We loved our stay!! Very well equipped, bathrooms were great, and we ended up needing almost everything in the “everything you forgot” box. Host was very kind and easy to talk to, you just check in with him and then it feels like home! Definitely coming back, definitely recommend it.

Weekend Trip to BANKS RANCH IN THE REDWOODS

This is a super convenient place to get away from it all...but also be 15 min away from Davenport and their convenience store and shops (as well as the coastal beaches). There is lots of space and sun in the meadow spot, and we walked past the creek spot on our hike down to the beautiful creek. The creek was a great place to be able to walk to during the hottest part of the day. Choose the creek site if you really want to camp and just be away from everything (the drive to it would be a mini adventure). Choose the meadow if you want to get in and out easily. It also has some great trees for hanging your hammocks. The whole experience was peaceful and the perfect weekend of camping. Obviously you have to appreciate a camp in/camp out experience (including your own poo), but Doug and Denise made it as easy and convenient as they can. Highly recommend having or renting from them the propane pit during the summer no-burn months.

Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Camper

This was a great, little, rustic, camper hideaway! Felt very private and comfortable. I slept well and enjoyed both the fresh air and sounds of nature (birds, honey bees in the shrub outside). Easy to get to the beach and Aptos Village before retreating back to this charming location.

We went camping a bit south of Santa Cruz and ended up at Ani’s place — honestly such a gem. Bradley was the one who greeted us, and right away you could tell he was just super chill and genuine. The kind of host that makes you feel like you’ve known him for a while. The animals were everywhere, and it was the best part — goats, baby goats jumping around, guinea pigs making their little sounds, chickens, turkeys, dogs and cats doing their own thing, and even this 50-year-old tortoise just slowly vibing through life. It all just felt alive and peaceful. If you’ve been feeling stuck in city mode and just want to breathe again — go here. Alone or with someone, it’s one of those places that helps you feel human again. Many blessings 🙏💎

Completely private 19 acres to explore while only being 10 min from downtown Los Gatos (FYI has great cell reception). We have a small cabin that has a mattress that sleeps 2 and a futon below for 1. Also plenty of flat empty land to pitch tents. There is a compost toilet and an outdoor shower with running hot water. There is plenty of room to explore, half of the property is pretty dense wilderness but the main half has hammocks, slack line, fire pit, bbq, tables, etc. *FYI due to the steep driveway (see pic) the property is only accessible by AWD or 4-wheel drive SUV or truck; cars, vans, or RVs will not be able to make it (if you are not sure please ask before booking).

We had people swear that this is the best bed they ever slept in. The campground is located in a serene oak grove area of the property. Its a peaceful getaway with an abundance of bird varieties and occasional wild turkeys passing through. Take a stroll around our 5-acre property and catch a breathtaking sunset from the hillside. We're only 11 minutes away from Mount Madonna State Park and just 10 minutes from a local healthy grocery store and yoga studio. The beautiful Pajaro Dunes coastal area is just a 15-minute drive away, and the Santa Cruz Fairground is only two minutes away. Our location is surrounded by family friendly farms such as Gizdich ranch and nurseries, hence why it's considered the salad bowl of the United States. The Santa Cruz beaches are only 15-25 minutes away, while Monterey Bay Aquarium is just 30 minutes away and Gilroy Gardens is about 25 minutes away. The wine trail is also nearby. There are plenty of activities to enjoy nearby, including horseback riding at Mount Madonna Stable, Mount Madonna Retreat Center, hiking at Mount Madonna State Park, wine tastings at various wineries with stunning views, kayaking at Elkhorn Slough or any beaches, yoga at Watsonville Yoga or onsite, swimming, scuba diving in Monterey, visiting the Hanoman temple at Mount Madonna retreat center, and attending any events at the Santa Cruz Fairground. Each tent has beds, down comforters, crisp cotton linens, lights, and more. Outdoor and indoor furniture and little touches that will make your stay unique. Each tent is perched on a sturdy wooden platform and features a fully furnished deck, providing a cozy space to relax and soak in the breathtaking ocean (Half Moon Bay views) and forest views (Kings Mountain). All tents include a mini fridge and a stove, ideal for light cooking, intimate fireside storytelling, and warmth during cool days. We suggest you bring easy-to-prep food, drinks, warm clothes, hiking shoes, and a beanie, as it can get chilly without notice. Your designated parking space is a 6-minute walk from the campsite (downhill on arrival, then back uphill (steep) in the forest), so we recommend traveling light. Our campsite is nestled within the same property as our charming little farm. If you're interested in meeting our friendly farm animals, get in touch, and we'll be delighted to arrange a visit at a time that works best for you and them. Our goats roam the land all day and may visit you for pets and nuzzles. They are gentle, but please do not feed or let them inside the tent. Recharge from the day with a hot shower. Grab your fresh towels from your tent and go to your allocated bathhouses, where you’ll find an indoor shower and well-appointed restrooms. They are nicely lit and stocked with bath products. A sink area is available for dish clean-up, and a bbq/picnic area (bring charcoal). KM is famous for its hiking and biking trails nestled amongst the redwoods. The closest is a 15-minute walk from our campsite, and others are within a 15-minute car ride. Tent 01 (180sqft) accommodates 3 people in a queen-size bed and a daybed. Camping near Pescadero with campfires guide

Overview

The rural community of Pescadero sits at the midpoint of the California coast. It's just over an hour south of San Francisco. With a population of only around 650, it's usually a sleepy town. Things tend to perk up in the summer when camping and surfing enthusiasts descend for the area's excellent weather and water access. Never seen the famous California redwoods? Head about 10 minutes southeast to reach Butano State Park. You'll find 40 miles of hiking trails that take you through these massive, majestic trees. Spend the night among the redwoods at the 39-site Ben Ries Campground. Travel about 30 minutes north on CA-1 to reach Half Moon Bay State Beach. About four miles of shoreline allow for fishing and make an excellent picnic destination. Looking to stay overnight? Head to the 52-site campground on Francis Beach. Francis does have some RV and trailer camping, but hookups are electric only. Santa Cruz North / Costanoa KOA is about 20 minutes south of Pescadero. Here you'll have access to both tent camping and RV park with full hookups. Free Wi-Fi makes this a good choice for digital nomads working from the road.
