The Fairy Forest is 4 acres of redwood trees one mile from the magical city of Trinidad, CA. People have been camping in our meadow since the 1950's, and I'm happy to carry on the tradition, by opening it up to you. There was a fire on the property in 1901 which left the burnt out hollow stumps which you'll see by the shower. There's one old growth redwood on the property, behind the glampy tent, but everything else in roughly 120 years old. Every year we try to make your glamping experience better and better. This year, we've added an artisan picnic table, built on site, and some solar lights leading to the shower. Outdoor sink and cook space is next on our list! There used to be two campsites on our property, but we closed down one of them to give guests in the glampy tent exclusive usage of the outdoor shower and porta potty. We are also renting out our cabin this year, which has been our home for the last 3 years. There's 10 local beaches to explore in the area, great little restaurants and businesses, and countless trails- including Strawberry Rock, which is right down the street from us. We're 19 miles away from Orick, which is the gateway to Fern Canyon (make a reservation in advance) and all the trails with old growth redwoods. And we're 16 miles from Arcata, a vibrant, colorful and creative city that is home to the first farmer's market in California, which is quite the experience if you find yourself here on a Saturday. It is a home and resource to extended LGBTQ+ communities by being a small-scale rural resource for learning and sharing useful rural living skills and being a destination for visits, artist and activist retreats, and host to small groups and events. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The property is conveniently located midway between the coast/redwoods and the Trinity River/Trinity Alps backpacking. It is a 45 minute drive to the coast of Trinidad, which has some of the most lovely coves and beaches and Patrick's Point State Park. It is a half hour drive to the coastal Ma-le'l dunes. And it is a half hour drive inland to swimming holes on the Trinity River. OFF-THE-GRID: The place is off-the-grid, no internet, only limited solar power, an on-demand propane water heater, and heated by woodstoves. Structures are a combination of natural building, salvaged, and new materials, with a mix of low-tech alternative technologies- all built with lots of love and help from friends. BOOKING A GROUP: There is potentially both cabin space and camping spots. The property can accommodate a group of up to 10 people. If you wish to book a group, please get in touch and we'll have you book all of the spaces- including some that are not currently listed, as they are in the shared lodge space. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY: There is a guest room in the shared lodge space if you want to have a wheelchair accessible room. The lodge has a ramp for accessible entrance. The Redwoods Bend Retreat is a place to get away from it all. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service. Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch. Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental. Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away. Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings. We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp. We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer. We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

Lovely property right above the river! The host is kind and thoughtful. I appreciated the self serve check in as I arrived very late after a long day of driving. There are a variety of sites, and I was lucky to be upgraded to the beautiful Perch! It has a private deck overlooking the river, comfy bed + electricity, access to sweet bathhouse with shower+toilet. My pup and I enjoyed the whole property to ourselves and spent a lot of time by the water. It's clear there is a lot of care for the space. HIGHLY recommend!

The tent was nice and there was a heater. I liked having the comforts of a real bed (that was actually comfortable) and be in the middle of the redwoods and be still close to nature. I loved that it was so close to Trinidad and the freeway as-well. The shower was hard to get warm but it wasn't so bad.

So beautiful, romantic, and equipped! It really has everything you could need while remaining pretty minimalist. The steamy outdoor shower on a cold morning was healing, and the privacy of the toilet was ideal (totally worth it to walk outside the cabin for a moment, and you’re still totally protected from rain and dirt on the couple of steps it takes to reach it.) Can’t wait to come back.

This was our second stay and all went very well. Beautiful area. We stayed in the Tiny Home this time, partly I choose this because there were high winds predicted. Both the Tiny Home, the cute camper and their composting outhouse are very nice and all are very clean. There's room for a person and two dogs or two people if one wants the floor, such as a child. Great stay.

Cute cabin - really nice to have heat (wood stove), electricity, and a real sink, shower, toilet. This is my oversight but reiterating the alert to others: they do not provide bedding! The pics all show a made bed so I guess my brain just glazed over that part in the description. Glad they left dry wood, kindling and a throw blanket for the cool night. Slept with a strong fire going and my jacket as a pillow. Could be improved: Whole place smelled a little bit like cat pee. Looks dreamy in the warmer months. Under 10 mins to downtown arcata.

This little camper checks all the boxes: Quiet, private, clean, solid roof to keep you dry and warm, SUPER comfy bed, and the softest sheets. If you want the campground experience without the camping then look no further. Birdie is low frills, but has everything you need. Yes, you can hear the 101 during the day, but it's pretty much dead silent at night (the campground has electric hook-ups so you won't hear generators running). It's beautiful, there's a redwood to greet you in the morning...what more could you want!
