After time spent traveling - in Hawaii, Central America and Southeast Asia - we decided to make a home for ourselves in the Pacific Northwest. We looked for over a year for the perfect place, and first came across this property - one drafty farmhouse, a dilapidated outbuilding an an ancient barn - and immediately knew this was where we were meant to be. We call this rustic homestead "Bueno Mana" - as in, "The Good Source/Good Life". A place to come and re-acquaint yourself with what that truly means.
Situated an easy 4 miles from the nearby charming seaside town of Trinidad, and 1.5 miles away from popular Moonstone Beach, this space offers privacy, access to Nature, and a wee respite from the busy outside world. While you're here, enjoy a walk through the private loop trail or jaunt down to the beach, less than 2 miles away. Enjoy a bespoke picnic underneath the apple trees, or lay a round of disc golf on our 18-hole course onsite.
At night, roast some s'mores or sip some local wine or beer by the outdoor firepit. Or take a dip in the shared hot tub with with some world class stargazing time. Easy access to world-famous hikes through the redwoods, and several miles of pristine coastal access.
Guests will stay in the renovated barn, with two queen beds, a cozy outdoor sunroom, and lots of books and records on hand to enhance your stay. Inside is everything you will need for a thoroughly pampered "camping" experience: full-size fridge, electric range, microwave, coffee maker, tv and turntable, and wi-fi, plus a wood-burning stove to keep you warm while you're here.

This park gets its rather self-descriptive name from the six beautiful rivers that flow through its borders, but don’t the name fool you. There is a lot more than just rivers to check out here. More than a million rambling acres of forest take you through foggy and mystical redwood landscapes. Further inland, miles of towering Douglas firs, glacial peaks, and hidden pools just wait to be discovered. Of course, the rivers are the main attraction. You can’t go two feet without tripping over a perfect swimming hole. After your dip, there are plenty of warm rocks to lay out on. Oh, and if the natural beauty doesn’t get you: this was the place where they first spotted Bigfoot. Yeah, the original footage that basically made everyone believe in the hairy bi-ped. Humboldt hideaway is a small intimate SHARED space with residents. The outdoor kitchen, deck with a view, and campfire ring are all connected to the main resident house. There are places of seclusion, but much of it is shared outdoor space.
Humboldt Hideaway is a small off-the-grid LGBTQ+ queer land project in Northern California. It is set on 12 acres of hilly terrain in the mixed fir and oak woods of Humboldt County, a half-hour east of Arcata. Back in 2001, when it was established, it was undeveloped with nothing on it. It has since been built up with the scrappy efforts of amateur creative dreamers.
It is a home and resource to extended LGBTQ+ communities by being a small-scale rural resource for learning and sharing useful rural living skills and being a destination for visits, artist and activist retreats, and host to small groups and events.
Anyone is welcome at Humboldt Hideaway, but please understand that it is an intentional place committed to anti-oppression values. It is important that it remain a safer space for people identifying as queer and/or transgender, as well as a supportive space for women and people of color to freely be. Please make sure you do not anticipate any concerns/problems with this.
NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The property is conveniently located midway between the coast/redwoods and the Trinity River/Trinity Alps backpacking. It is a 45 minute drive to the coast of Trinidad, which has some of the most lovely coves and beaches and Patrick's Point State Park. It is a half hour drive to the coastal Ma-le'l dunes. And it is a half hour drive inland to swimming holes on the Trinity River.
OFF-THE-GRID: The place is off-the-grid, no internet, only limited solar power, an on-demand propane water heater, and heated by woodstoves. Structures are a combination of natural building, salvaged, and new materials, with a mix of low-tech alternative technologies- all built with lots of love and help from friends.
BOOKING A GROUP: There is potentially both cabin space and camping spots. The property can accommodate a group of up to 10 people. If you wish to book a group, please get in touch and we'll have you book all of the spaces- including some that are not currently listed, as they are in the shared lodge space.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY: There is a guest room in the shared lodge space if you want to have a wheelchair accessible room. The lodge has a ramp for accessible entrance. This room is not listed, but get in touch if you want to book it.

Situated in the trees, our cabin is located near our home, so questions can be answered and recommendations can be made personally. Our 160-acre property is surrounded by about a million acres of National Forest. Our neighborhood is all made of trees, huckleberry bushes and animals. We love it here. It is very remote, peaceful, and functionally sustainable in its focus. The closest neighbor is a Buddhist Hermitage about a mile up the forestry road. Also, supposedly, Sasquatch live here! (it is the epicenter for documented sightings).
Most visitors to the area are interested in spending time in the redwoods – we are about 30-45 minutes from the nearest entrance to Jedediah Smith Park, home of Stout Grove and other beautiful redwood hikes. Driving into Crescent City, about 45-60 minutes, winds you right through the "gentle giants" on your way to or from Redwood National Park.
We are self-sufficient, and sustainable in a relatively primitive set-up, especially after the fire this year. It's mountainous and remote, and we have a community agreement about no smoking (of any kind) on our land.

We absolutely adored this place! It felt like our home away from home with all the comforts and personal touches in this lovely abode. We originally planned to camp for this trip, but we're so glad we stayed here instead. Our only regret was that we didn't spend much of our time there since we were exploring the area- I would go back just to spend a few days hanging out at The Barn though! The property was super neat, hosts were great, & their resident dog Juniper was such a cutie pie. 10/10 would recommend staying here if you're in the area to explore the redwoods and the coast. The town of Trinidad was so wonderful & had great food & people. Thank you Amy & family for the great stay!

Weekend Trip to Ramblin' Redwoods Cabins
We absolutely loved our stay at Rambling Redwoods! The campground itself is clean & well maintained. It does seem to be geared more toward RVs than tent camping, and since it’s right off the road, tent campers may hear some road noise.
That said, I can’t recommend the cabins enough! Ours was incredibly clean, cozy, and comfortable, with both heat and A/C. The kitchen had all the cooking supplies we needed, and the view from the cabin was so peaceful.
The campground also has some great amenities, including a dog wash station, playground, washers and dryers, and a nice communal yard area with a firepit. There’s also a small store at the office with a surprisingly good variety of food items, cooking essentials, and other supplies you might need during your stay.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our visit. We genuinely loved staying here and would absolutely come back!

Accurate photos of this lovely private cabin with mostly windows on three of the walls. Little wood stove to be toasty warm on cool evenings. Functional outdoor kitchen with lots of banana slugs to keep you company. 😆

This cabin was so dreamy, I thoroughly enjoyed just laying in bed and staring out the window for an entire afternoon after a long week of camping. I didn’t use the outdoor kitchen but it was very well stocked. The shower was awesome. And the banana slugs were adorable and plentiful as advertised. I would definitely return for a longer stay.

unbelievable place. can't recommend it enough. you're basically sleeping in a Redwood forest, with old growth stumps all around. huge, secluded property to walk around in, feels like very holy ground. the barn was so cozy and had everything we needed. make sure sure you know how to build a fire, because that's the only heat source for the barn! we wish we could have stayed a week. so close to Moonstone beach, which was our favourite beach of our coastal trip. very tuned and gorgeous piano, lots of cool records - we didn't play disc golf, but the course is there thru out the redwoods! i could really go on and on. treat yourself, stay here.

Loved this sweet comfy cabin nestled in the woods. It was very quiet and private even though it was only four minutes from the college I dropped my son off at. Very convenient to town and exactly what I was looking for. Loved that there was firewood onsite for the indoor stove and campfire. Cute outdoor kitchen, mini fridge and French press. Would definitely stay again.
