Our 160-acre property is surrounded by about a million acres of National Forest. Our neighborhood is all made of trees, huckleberry bushes and animals. We love it here. It is very remote, peaceful, and functionally sustainable in its focus. The closest neighbor is a Buddhist Hermitage about a mile up the forestry road. Also, supposedly, Sasquatch live here! (it is the epicenter for documented sightings). Most visitors to the area are interested in spending time in the redwoods – we are about 30-45 minutes from the nearest entrance to Jedediah Smith Park, home of Stout Grove and other beautiful redwood hikes. Driving into Crescent City, about 45-60 minutes, winds you right through the "gentle giants" on your way to or from Redwood National Park. We are self-sufficient, and sustainable in a relatively primitive set-up, especially after the fire this year. It's mountainous and remote, and we have a community agreement about no smoking (of any kind) on our land.

The Fairy Forest is 4 acres of redwood trees one mile from the magical city of Trinidad, CA. People have been camping in our meadow since the 1950's, and I'm happy to carry on the tradition, by opening it up to you. There was a fire on the property in 1901 which left the burnt out hollow stumps which you'll see by the shower. There's one old growth redwood on the property, behind the glampy tent, but everything else in roughly 120 years old. Every year we try to make your glamping experience better and better. This year, we've added an artisan picnic table, built on site, and some solar lights leading to the shower. Outdoor sink and cook space is next on our list! There used to be two campsites on our property, but we closed down one of them to give guests in the glampy tent exclusive usage of the outdoor shower and porta potty. We are also renting out our cabin this year, which has been our home for the last 3 years. There's 10 local beaches to explore in the area, great little restaurants and businesses, and countless trails- including Strawberry Rock, which is right down the street from us. We're 19 miles away from Orick, which is the gateway to Fern Canyon (make a reservation in advance) and all the trails with old growth redwoods. And we're 16 miles from Arcata, a vibrant, colorful and creative city that is home to the first farmer's market in California, which is quite the experience if you find yourself here on a Saturday. It is set on 12 acres of hilly terrain in the mixed fir and oak woods of Humboldt County, a half-hour east of Arcata. Back in 2001, when it was established, it was undeveloped with nothing on it. It has since been built up with the scrappy efforts of amateur creative dreamers. It is a home and resource to extended LGBTQ+ communities by being a small-scale rural resource for learning and sharing useful rural living skills and being a destination for visits, artist and activist retreats, and host to small groups and events. Anyone is welcome at Humboldt Hideaway, but please understand that it is an intentional place committed to anti-oppression values. It is important that it remain a safer space for people identifying as queer and/or transgender, as well as a supportive space for women and people of color to freely be. Please make sure you do not anticipate any concerns/problems with this. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The property is conveniently located midway between the coast/redwoods and the Trinity River/Trinity Alps backpacking. It is a 45 minute drive to the coast of Trinidad, which has some of the most lovely coves and beaches and Patrick's Point State Park. It is a half hour drive to the coastal Ma-le'l dunes. And it is a half hour drive inland to swimming holes on the Trinity River. OFF-THE-GRID: The place is off-the-grid, no internet, only limited solar power, an on-demand propane water heater, and heated by woodstoves. Structures are a combination of natural building, salvaged, and new materials, with a mix of low-tech alternative technologies- all built with lots of love and help from friends. BOOKING A GROUP: There is potentially both cabin space and camping spots. The property can accommodate a group of up to 10 people. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service. Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch. Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental. Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away. Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings. We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp. We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer. We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

Cozy cabin on ten wooded acres within a neighborhood. A double bed and a single bed in the loft upstairs (cabin sleeps 3). Brand new everything. Easy to get to, and walkably close to the golf course. Great for kayakers, beachgoers, and fishermen. You can hook the cabin up to your generator, or use the solar outlets provided. Plenty of room to roam, and a large area around the cabin is fenced in, so dogs are OK! Outdoor kitchen has running water and all cooking tools. Picnic area, outhouse, wifi and great cell coverage!

So beautiful, romantic, and equipped! It really has everything you could need while remaining pretty minimalist. The steamy outdoor shower on a cold morning was healing, and the privacy of the toilet was ideal (totally worth it to walk outside the cabin for a moment, and you’re still totally protected from rain and dirt on the couple of steps it takes to reach it.) Can’t wait to come back.

Cool place - was exactly as advertised! Wood fireplace kept me warm, fresh well water on tap, and an outdoor shower. Great for one or two people who plan on spending their time adventuring and not hunkering down until they have used all the daylight.

Cute cabin - really nice to have heat (wood stove), electricity, and a real sink, shower, toilet. This is my oversight but reiterating the alert to others: they do not provide bedding! The pics all show a made bed so I guess my brain just glazed over that part in the description. Glad they left dry wood, kindling and a throw blanket for the cool night. Slept with a strong fire going and my jacket as a pillow. Could be improved: Whole place smelled a little bit like cat pee. Looks dreamy in the warmer months. Under 10 mins to downtown arcata.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this cabin! The location was peaceful, private, and surrounded by beautiful scenery, the perfect spot to relax and disconnect. Our host was incredibly welcoming and responsive, and offered great local tips. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a quiet escape in nature!

Lisa and Jeff have created a cozy cabin for anyone wanting to explore the ocean and coastal redwoods. They went out of their way to make sure our stay in the cabin was cozy and memorable. They’ve made a lot of choices that make the space feel more open, like having a clear shower curtain so you can see the full bathroom and using open shelving in the kitchen We highly recommend the Elf Cabin. The cabin in a 5 minute drive from College Cove in Trinidad State Beach, which was a beautiful place to watch the sunset. Then we were only a short drive away from the south end of Redwood National and State Parks.

The sweetest cabin in the most convenient location! This camp had everything we needed - hot shower, flushing toilet, and a simple, cozy outdoor kitchen setup. Only 5-10 minutes from the hub of Arcata. The cabin felt really private and was nestled in the most darling grove of aspens. Would recommend and would love to come back!

Super quiet, comfy and cozy space. The Wi-Fi is strong enough so two of us could work remotely while enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The shower had great water pressure and unlimited hot wate thanks to the tankless hot water heater. Perfectly located with only a few minute drive to so many beautiful beaches, state parks and national parks. Would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend.

Nice cute affordable place to stay. I really liked the hot outdoor shower and the signature banana slugs. My dog didnt want to leave this place or Humboldt in general! Cute little porch and was very quiet to read etc. Also included sink and lots of kitchen utensils etc. It was very chill! Ted the host is friendly and makes sure you feel welcome!

Jeff and Lisa's cabin was the perfect place to stay during our trip to the west coast. They provided everything we needed over our three night stay. The bed was very comfortable and the entire aesthetic of the interior was both charming and cozy. They provided all of the fire wood, toilet paper (the good stuff), shampoo/conditioner, cooking utensils and coffee. We were greeted by Lisa and her dog, Covey, the first night and she made sure we were settled in nicely and gave us a few suggestions on where to eat in town. On the last night, Jeff dropped by after he got off of work while we were outside enjoying drinks next to the campfire. In our conversation with him we learned a lot about the cabin itself and the history behind it. Both Lisa and Jeff were very personable and great hosts. We can't recommend this place enough!

Emily and Ted's magical cabin offered a gorgeous place to start and end our days and a cozy place to recharge with a full schedule of activities. There were black-tailed deer waiting to greet us when we arrived and over a dozen species of birds to hear and see every morning. The hosts were kind and accommodating but offered plenty of privacy and space to do our own thing. The timberframe architecture and joinery is beautifully done, and we appreciated the solar electricity and propane hot water that made it much easier to travel with a 6 year old. Hope we get to visit again someday!

This was my 2nd time at the cabin. We just loved our stay! The bed is so comfy and the cabin was warm and cozy from the wood stove. The flushing toilet and hot shower are a nice touch as well. We like to ride our bikes to get around and the cabin is a perfect spot to be just far enough from the busyness of downtown but close enough to get downtown on bike in 10 minutes. There’s also a store and restaurant in walking distance. We can’t wait to come back!

What a beautiful spot! It was definitely rustic, but added to the overall charm. I read reviews about the banana slugs beforehand, and they were not wrong about how plentiful they are! But that too was kind of fun. We enjoyed making an indoor fire to keep warm (although it quickly became apparent it was warm enough we didn’t need to do so!) and an outdoor fire for smores. Great little outdoor kitchen, and the location was really nice. We had amazing food the whole time, including at the little breakfast spot within walking distance. So so good!

Redwoods and Acata estuary.
Enjoyed the Ladybird Redwood Grove and also bird watching at the Acata estuary. Rod Fowler at fowlerope was a great guide.
